Would be keen for Schmidt to go for a Euro style back row with Hooper, Bobby V and Cale with McReight off the bench for some extra speed the way Reimer has been coming on. Maybe swap Hooper with Liam Wright but that’s a really solid lineout and backrow that’s not too dissimilar to Les Bleus with Jelonch, Alldritt and Ollivon. Allows Skelton to play at 5 and he was an absolute menace against Saracens. Swain/Jed or Frost at 4/19, although lately I feel like Swain has matured a fair bit more which I like.

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

The team has a bit of a dad’s army vibe about it. The inclusion of Beale adds to this, but I’m hoping that someone like Harry Potter bounces back from injury because he’s shown huge promise. Interestingly, they’re basically the only team that isn’t in financial strife in terms of Super Rugby AU teams (apart from Queensland who always refer to their Ballymore asset). I wonder if this is from financial backing of a billionaire or financial restraint. Certainly it is rare to see big name signings go to the Force while the Rebels throw the empty chequebook at Tupou and others.

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

Far more intensity and physicality overall I reckon.

Brumbies make it 12 straight against Tahs as Bell hobbles off in worrying sign for Wallabies

He’s pretty big right now. 1.96m and 105kg. Taller than Caelan Doris but only 6kg lighter. I’d actually prefer a tall back row that can all handle themselves in the lineout and then we can have Skelton and some other overgrown behemoth at 4 to push in the scrums 👍

I’m happy with the lack of apparent X factor grinders like Talakai, Van Nek, Schoupp and Slips. Durable, can scrummage well and rock solid work rate.

Hot take: Sapsford brings far more to the table than Muirhead.

Oh Lord. What’s the go with Potter? He’s been one of my favourite players this season and thought a possibility in the Wallabies 23 😔

Beale's back! Wallabies star joins Western Force after injury opens the door for veteran's return

Is this a Justin Harrison/RA ‘review’ where not a whole lot changes and the a year 10 business studies student pops out a whole laundry list of corporate cliches like synergy, pivot and change management or an actual review review? First big test for Horne.

Rugby Australia kicks off review into Waratahs as pressure mounts on Coleman ahead of Brumbies clash

Will be torrid conditions in Canberra Saturday night with 10-40mm forecast. Disappointing for Vailanu. Surprised Sinclair is at 8, surely there’s a wealth of backrow talent in Shute Shield to step up and keep Sinclair at lock.

Super Rugby teams round 7: Bell returns but Tahs hooker gone for season, Jack back for Brums, Rebels' Leota blow

The other weekend Rebels were playing at home whilst just around the corner Collingwood were playing the Swans at the MCG. Tough to compete with that so maybe a shift west is better.

That’ll put him out for at least 4-6 weeks for the interstate removal claim.

Super Rugby 2019: travel the world, play in Cape Town, Buenos Aires and Tokyo. It’s a global game.
Super Rugby 2025: come play in Wyndham.

'It can be something great': Schmidt turns to 'scrum doctor' as next step in Wallabies rebuild

You should probably revisit Tupou’s post match interview where he has zero idea about the trophy before throwing shade

The Wrap: Good news and bad news for Rugby Australia as Brumbies and Rebels win local derbies

Yes, bouncing your young family from Brisbane to Melbourne to possibly south of France and learning a new language is great 👍

'We’d like to see Taniela stay': RA 'absolutely' want Thor for Lions, have 'contingency plans' for Rebels crisis

I expect we’ll hear the commonly used phrase when players move overseas ‘it’s what’s best for my family’ or ‘experience a new culture’. Like yes, uprooting your family into a foreign land is definitely what’s best for them. I wish we’d just hear ‘it’s about the money’.

HMP should never have been dropped for Creighton.

ANALYSIS: 'Efficiency and ruthlessness' - Race to the 22m to determine Australia's Super Rugby front-runners

There’s certainly far more water breaks and players looking absolutely smoked throughout the game which never seemed to be as noticeable in rugby in the 90s. But that could also be because the opposition is fitter.

WR's mooted law changes are great - but show there's a hell of a lot wrong with rugby in 2024, and that sucks

Good call. Maybe reserves are only for when someone is actually injured!

Great article. I’d love to see some fatigue back in the game. The fact that you can place almost an entire reserve forward pack on the bench is a master stroke, but such an indictment on the modern game. With more fatigue there would be less behemoths, but they would also just be trimmed down and more agile, perhaps increasing the spectacle.

Not the worst option. At the current rate, the Tahs wouldn’t fill out Manly Oval let alone Allianz so if Cheika can get them winning again I’m all for it. DC should stay at the Waratahs in some capacity and I’ll be annoyed if it’s Whitaker or Gilmore again.

Wonder kid offered 3-yr, $1.6m deal to stay in Aussie rugby - and why it could see Wallabies stars leave Ballymore

I actually think we have an oversupply of quality backs for once. I’d be happy with Kellaway, Potter or Wright at 15 so Jorgensen is kind of in that depth pool. Not sure about the salary though. Potter seems to be a good find though, and wants to play rugby. I’d say we’re better off developing him and the others.

2014 was awesome. Was so sad when the team all moved on 😢 but the main thing was that Tahs pack was rock solid especially in the locking department

Yeah that’s well known. But I think more should be done to attract and retain more tight five talent. Skelton/Hockings etc. The Tahs have seemed to have focused on their forwards and had flashy outside backs for a while, when in reality, they won in 2014 due to Potgeiter and co.

Good call. I’ve often wondered about the ability of some back rowers to shift to inside centre. Esterhuizen is the size of a 6 haha

Five things we learned: Schmidt's selection headache, Carter's a No.12 wildcard, and $1m Thor must step up
