It is the sporting public that will judge. Those that hate sport are not suddenly going to show interest in AFL and GWS. And of this sport loving population, the majority will be supporters or at least show some interest in RL- the sport is culturally ingrained. The migrant community interested in sport is therefore immediately tuned into league/have a bias towards league. The women and kids line -that could work but that is a small subsection of the community. And there are few if any residents from interstate so they don’t have these ‘free fans’ like GC
Anyway its just an intriguing debate which is why I’m wasting my time here

Hey mate I’m just stating in black and white what most league fans are thinking. Yes Panther’s memberships are a disappointment -I’d say that could be attributed to 5 years poor form, low/middle income demographic and the unusually large numbers of dragons, doggies,eels supporters that live in the area. We can improve because the interest is well and truly there.
Why would Penrith want to own their ground? Why would they want to be asset rich and cash poor like the sharks? Most clubs don’t own their grounds and the current setup seems fine.
And I’m sure you were taking the mickey but Perth Panthers? There is an encyclopedia of reasons why this would never happen.
Queensland should come first for NRL expansion
I like the concept but it needs to stay as ‘just another trial game’. If the rivalry even started to approach Origin level, race problems would come up in the tension.
I thought the Indigenous people who did their ‘haka’ and seemed to attach the opposition with spears at the end was too confrontational. You just get the impression that Indigenous people are alienated from the rest of the community -exactly what this wonderful concept tries to address

It is the sporting public of Western Sydney that will judge in the end. Ticking off the majority of this population is probably not the smartest idea. And by positioning themselves like crusaders heralding a new order this is exactly what they are doing.

thing is they have no long history, most of their supporters would not have been brought up with rugby league in their blood like you or I. they wouldnt feel a ‘responsibility’ to stay with the club and remain loyal to the game in general as would happen if this was sydney club
i hate to kick them while their down but there are some foul people associated with them

i dont get why people hate clarke so much. He really comes across to me as a decent guy and as someone noted above, he’d be a d***head if he wasnt with his girl in her ‘time of need’-obviously bingle isnt a good judge of what is important…
the only fault of clarke is probably getting hooked up with her in the first place

You said it in your article-Coach Elliot is off his wheels. They only ended up snaring Kingston in the end because of Parra’s salary cap woes. Well, the experts have predicted Penrith’s ‘young guns’ to fire for a number of seasons now. Elliot’s gotta go if they miss the finals again.

50 over cricket is entertaining when it is competitive. Unfortunately we have two poor visiting teams this season. CA has the current balance of games right.
T20 games should have a rule that a certain amount of runs are deducted for each wicket that falls in an innings. Maybe 5 runs. This would bring younger players to appreciate the value of a wicket to an appropriate extent as opposed to swinging wildly for every ball.
Why fifty-over cricket must be saved
most league fans would have got behind the indigenous side which, if anything would help people recognise, appreciate and celebrate indigenous talent.Surely that works towards reconciliation. Hopefully this remains an exhibition style match where the winner is almost inconsequential. If the fixture develops a soo type rivalry than some of those segregation problems may arise.
But really, who could pull for the NRL side? they have no identity or any strong notion to pin themselves on -you could call them villains pulled together just to create an opposition for the game. On that note Im confident that any sort of rivalry will not develop. So everyone (except league haters) are winners from this concept.

I hope one hd can get the rights to the tennis soon because the product aint that bad. My pet hate like many is the atrocious promotions of crappy Seven shows that are aired repeatedly. ARRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!!! After watrching that cheesy trash who would even think of watching my kitchen rules or, curse the thought, Cougartown **shudder. Not very effective advertising. Still the ratings will be strong for seven for the last days of the Open and especially the two finals. Any competition from the cricket on Sunday is microscopic thanks to the pitiful state of the Pakistani team. Even I, a cricket fan, watched the full match. I end my rant
PS. Roger Federer is pure class. I remember that gillete ad with 3 sports superstars of the time: Federer, Woods and thierry henry. Federer has and will probably continue to be an untainted god long after his time.
Channel 7 has stifled this year’s Australian Open
I read in the paper about a genius idea. Deduct 10 runs for each wicket that falls in a T20 game like indoor cricket. Batsmen will value their wickets much more and the game doesn;t degenerate into a ‘slogathon’. Maybe 10 runs is too much, maybe 5? Then we may see some more orthodox action. Also gives more power to the bowlers to attack the opposition on the scoreboard.

Watson is a first class idiot. Full marks to Gayle for holding back. If I were him I may have had a swing of the bat. The Benn/Johnson/Haddin incident, although ugly, was entertaining nonetheless. It shows that both sides are passionate. Watson’s antics make one embarasseed to be Australian.

Re- expansion. Not sure what happening for teams to enter for 2013. Some media outlets say two teams are guaranteed whilst others say theyll be no expansion till 2017. Anyways, There is a golden age for league on the horizon. WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

good riddance News ltd. Jeez I hate that thing. Now that the commission is more or less confirmed, I don’t understand why league people seem to suddenly be afraid. Yeah it aint totally and perfectly independent and both Love and Gallop are retained -but some sort of transition is required and the proposed set up is a hell of a lot better than the current NRL

western sydney -kids play soccer as a sport. When it comes to interest in elite level sport -the A league is nothing. World Cups will get attention once every four years but NRL is king
