I also had the pleasure of playing a season with Shane in the Burdekin. Having left Brothers Shane could have retired, but arriving in a small country town with a very small and struggling club Shane threw himself into it. After three years, with two premierships he returned to Brisbane, leaving behind a club that grew into one of the perennial contenders in the Townsville District Rugby competition. A great man who You summed up beautifully “a quiet man who was humble, fiercely loyal, uncompromising and reliable”

Mzilikazi, Shane played in 87/88 and not sure if he played in 86. He was the first local I met in Ayr…all he said was ‘training is on tonight Shoes.. be there’
