It seems we mostly agree that there’s some room for improvement.
Just a couple of things to add. When a commentator refers to the fake crowd noise as if it is a real response from a real crowd, things are getting a bit weird. The commentators use of nicknames with each other is just too matey and blokey. It’s certainly not professional.
Finally: am I the only person uncomfortable with Wayne Carey constantly being lauded on Ch7? The man has a pretty decent record of DV and related charges against him over the years. In this day and age? really?

It's time for Channel Seven to improve

Thanks for the article, Adrian.
I reckon the Demons have a bit of a history of getting ahead of themselves over the years. They’ve blown a number of opportunities since the late 80s, but last year was such a shocker you would have to think they couldn’t go that poorly again this year.
As someone else has suggested, blaming injuries doesn’t explain a lot of other stuff. The Bulldogs in 2016 had an appalling run with injuries to key players, but look how that turned out.
Regarding the Gold Coast Suns: they played Melbourne once last year, with the Dees getting home by a point which was scored in the last second of the game. The Suns led inside the last minute, and had they won, both the Demons and GC would have finished the season with 4 wins.

What fresh hell awaits the Demons?

Stephen, that’s the most considered piece I have read anywhere about the Suns this year.
I continue to be amazed by the lack of insight and analysis displayed by professional journalists, so to read this was a breath of fresh air!

AFL 2019 top 100: Gold Coast Suns

Great piece, Sean. I am clearly quite a bit older than you, and I too was shaken by the documentary. However, I was always of the opinion that the booing was racist – here was a black man daring to speak up about Indigenous affairs. Had he shut up about racism, had he never called it out there would have been no controversy, but we would all be poorer for it, and he might have considered himself weak for not doing so.
One thing that struck me deeply was how measured and calm Goodes was each time he spoke publicly. There was never any anger, no threats, no belligerent outrage. Yet that is exactly how many of the triggered white folk responded then, and again now.
Australia clearly has a long way to go.

The Final Quarter reaction – I lost faith in Australia

Some champions we admire because they are so good, others we cherish because not only are they good, but they have more to them that makes them likeable. There are plenty of examples of both, and the USWNT fall into the first category.
No one denies their dominance in their sport, nor their incredible skill. But, as with many other champions in the category, there is no humility. Ever.

When you play like the USA, you can say whatever you want

GCS member here. Another factor to keep in mind is the number of visiting fans who attend games on the Gold Coast. Could it be that a weekend at Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise with a game featuring your team is more appealing to southern fans in winter? And no probs with public transport to events in Qld. Free trams, trains and buses to get to the stadium.

GWS are tearing up the AFL, so where are the fans?

And to make it worse, these vulnerable young men are expected to perform PERFECTLY every time they run on to the field. I wonder how many of us can honestly say we were perfect at work every time we fronted?
