Hope things go as best they can. Thoughts and wishes for your whole family, Pat.

Family always needs to come first, sport is secondary.

Cummins rules himself out of third Test, reveals his mother is seriously ill

Border is, indeed, a better batter than Smith. He was simply outstanding against pace and spin alike. He also played at a time when Australian pitches were far more challenging to bat on (they offered a healthy dose of seam-movement, in addition to good pace and steep bounce). He successfully vanquished the legendary West Indian pace battery in their own den. He also negotiated the Indian spin-quartet in India with just as much success (albeit that the Indian side back then was far weaker than it is now).

Sure he didn’t have an average of 60 like Smith and Labuschagne do, but then neither would they if they’d played on the Aussies wickets of old for most of their career instead of benign drop-in pitches.

Anyone suggesting that Smith is a better batter than Border probably doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Once again, this is not to suggest that Smith isn’t a fine Test batter.

Aussies like a one-armed man punching the breeze in India but they CAN fight back … next time they play at home

The IPL surely beckons for Warner where he’ll, undoubtedly, receive the warm embrace of India’s adoring masses.

I’m not even being sarcastic here; Warner must easily be one of the most popular overseas cricketers in India, and he’ll have plenty of opportunities to demonstrate his abundant white-ball skills in front of packed full-houses over there – and to bask in the sort of attention, and adulation, he’s always sought.

But as far as his Test career goes; it might well be time to put her to bed…. and to reflect, fondly, on all the fine memories we have of him in cricket’s most traditional format.

At his best, Warner was one of Test cricket’s greatest entertainers – not unlike his former IPL teammate, Virender Sehwag, who encouraged him to seriously consider his prospects in Test cricket.

Warner may have played last Test with veteran opener heading home from India tour

“And we are better than NZ”.
Not so sure about that, I’m afraid! 😂
Besides, conditions in England are near-identical to those found in NZ (especially in Dunedin/ Christchurch).
Plus, the Black Caps had the advantage of playing a two-Test series against England in the UK, just before the WTC finals.
Don’t see Aus doing the same, what with the Ashes scheduled after the WTC finals, as opposed to before.
Agree with everything else you wrote 👍

Where to now for Aussies as 4-0 drubbing looms large: How they can avoid 'sweep' to make world Test final

Wouldn’t be underestimating an attack that comprises Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj any time soon.

In fact, I’d hardly be surprised if it was Aus that ended up getting rolled over for not too much. India did come back from that 36 all out to actually win that series (starting with a famous Boxing Day victory, followed by the epic draw at the SCG – made memorable by Tim Paine’s intercourse with Ashwin), and Siraj got a Five-fer at the Gabba as well?

India won that series without having the services of Bumrah and Shami…..

Basically don’t see the Aussie batters winning in any conditions that offer lateral movement, sadly 😢

I remember saying this very same thing on here after the first day of the first Test at Nagpur. I suggested at the time that Shammi and Siradj were at least better than Cummins and Boland, as a pair. I thought this a fairly reasonable assessment and yet, there was this one person on here that somehow managed to interpret that to mean that I was suggesting that Shammi was a better bowler than Cummings.

Sigh 😔

Although now, in hindsight, I do actually think that Shami might be the better bowler overall. I mean, look at the sheer number of wickets he gets on low/ slow conditions that are unhelpful for quicks. Cummins career numbers would’ve looked pretty terrible if he had played as many tests in Asia as Shammi has.

FLEM’S VERDICT: Shellshocked … panicked - Aussie collapse like watching a car crash in slow motion

That average in India has now dropped to 50, after these last two tests.

I predict that Smith’s overall Test batting average will also drop below 60 by the end of this Border-Gavaskar series.

I also predict that that average will rise back to 60 once he returns home to the flat wickets Down Under that offer minimal lateral movement.

'I'm as much to blame as anyone': Cummins admits Aussies batted 'too up-tempo' in Delhi implosion

Think they might need a healthy dose of “elite honesty” though.

'Soft, reckless, way over the edge': Greats savage sweep-happy Aussies' disaster, Warner's unlucky break - Talking Points

Thought India played alright on that wicket. They won the game with 6 wickets to spare… 🏏

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

If Jadeja doesn’t get you, Ashwin must…..

😔

Doubt there’s been a more lethal spin-bowling partnership in cricket history, especially in Asian conditions.

Whereas Akram was still lethal on non-conducive pitches (where his mastery of reverse-swing, at high pace, was most evidently on display).

Starc should really focus on white-ball cricket (and give up Test cricket altogether).

There’s no better format than the one you’re actually decent at.

What’s your primary skillset?

You’re still getting acclimatised to the weather though. Don’t discount the benefit of that!

“metaphorically” 😂

They needed to have played AFG for a one off test in the UAE, followed by three against PAK, three against BANG, and finally three against SL, before beginning this series in IND.

Ten Tests against Asian sides in their own hot and oppressive conditions……

Imagine how well prepared they might have been for the Indian series if they’d only chosen to do so!

CA, reckon you’ve missed a trick there?

Starc has indeed been a disappointment, at least as far as Test cricket goes. When he first started playing first class cricket, a lot of Australian observers reckoned he could potentially be better than Wazim Akram one day.

That day, sadly, never came 😔

Watson was at least as good as Flintoff on his day though.

Probably being a little pedantic here, but you lose a series (or, for example, a match, or a set) 0-4.

You can win a series 4-0 though (or 1-0, or 2-0, or, you know, n-0, where “n” is any positive number, if that makes sense).

Humiliated: Australia skittled in a session as Indian spinners set up innings victory

Shami…Siradj……“medium” pace?

Sure. If you consider mid-140s to high-130s to be “medium” pace.

And Rohit Sharma’s arguably the best Test opener at the moment, and not just in subcontinental conditions either. His 100 in England was sublime. And it was on a greentop too.

Colin Miller was a pretty decent spinner too. Could bowl seam up when he wanted to as well, if I recall correctly.

Healy slams 'pathetic' Indian act, Test legend questions 'murky' Warner call

Also, Healy was notorious for being hot-headed.
I recall that he smashed his dressing room windows on more than one occasion by hurling a bat through it after being disappointed/ annoyed/ enraged at being dismissed.
Just seems a bit ironic coming from him. Was a good ‘keeper though.

One suspects Ponting’s team would’ve fared a bit better, but still have been comfortably beaten by this Indian side. They’re playing an entirely different level of cricket at the moment….. especially in Indian conditions.

I mean, I can’t think of too many sides in World cricket that boast a bowling all rounder at number 9 with a batting average of 27 (to complement a bowling average of sub-20).

And that’s just Axar Patel. Ashwin at 8 has a similar batting average as well.

That’s some serious batting depth right there, especially when you have a Jadeja at 6 with a batting average of 37.

Indian groundstaff continue to get under Australian team's skin with more pitch shenanigans

They do indeed! Siradj and Shami as a duo are easily better than the duo of Cummins and Boland…. especially in the Indian subcontinent.

Healy slams 'pathetic' Indian act, Test legend questions 'murky' Warner call

Close enough. Same latitude as Chennai in Southern India.

They managed a 1-1 draw in Sri Lanka (last year too)…..and they were hoping for a better result against India?

Ideally Aus needs to have a one off test against AFG in the UAE followed by a three tester against PAK in PAK, followed by a three tester against BANG in BANG, followed by a three tester against SL in SL immediately followed by a five test Border-Gavaskar trophy against IND in IND.

With no BBL/ 100/ IPL distractions in between. 10 consecutive Tests in hot, oppressive, Asian conditions. If that doesn’t prepare you for the big prize (the Border-Gavaskar trophy, in India), I don’t know what will.

I’m not holding my breath….
