Cs i understand your frustration / unhappiness with Eddie and fair enough, you’re totally entitled to it.

My point is, doesn’t matter if the coach in Question was Jesus… I don’t believe in 3x coaches and their assistants within 12 months, period. Its not going to assist this squad moving forwards, this whole thing needs time, the players and coaching groups working together over a longer period of time. As i said above, if the RA Board/Administration were more intelligent and kept DR for his rightful 4th year, we wouldn’t be having this conversation… And look what 3 years of DR did… continuity and genuine belief from me the team he’d built was on the right track.

Turnstile from December 2022 to say January 2024 and going from Rennie and His assistants, to Eddie and his assistants, to then a new head coach and their assistants. 3 different head coaches with 3 different sets of assistants within a 12 month period essentially. Whilst the core of the squad/players that would be selected hasn’t changed by any significant amount… that’s turnstile.

The period we’re in right now is darkest its been, much darker than 2014-2019 for Cheika. What i’m saying is the players themselves don’t need another set of people telling them how to do things, some continuity for these young blokes is necessary. Let’s be real, the issue is RA administration, not Eddie. Doesn’t matter which coach was picked in January this year, I genuinely don’t think we would have had a significantly better result

Cs & HKRed, I still see value in a “Board of Selectors” approach, the turnstile of 3x different head coaches + 3x different sets of assistant coaches within a year and a half with a similiarish group of players won’t fix the issue.
Having oversight from others or outside influence on selections will go some way to negating “bizarre selections” which I don’t disagree the selection choices have been wrong but there’s more than one way to skin a cat. If RA is serious about building a team towards 2025 & 2027 then time and a little patience must be afforded. The players and even Michael Hooper post match stated their support of Eddie and if they players are genuinely backing the man then that’s enough for me. Time and patience, this situation is a horrible one but continuity with some external assistance from the head coach making all the selection calls is needed.

I’m not in agreeance with sacking Eddie… DR should have never been sacked in the first place but we’re here now so need to look forward.

In my opinion I believe Eddie needs to be coaching the Wallabies next year, there’s no question. this turnstile behaviour of coaches in and out just isn’t right for a team attempting to grow. On the other hand, RA Management and its board can go today, I still feel its rotting from the top. The team and eddie need more time together, changing the coach isn’t going to fix the bigger issue so I feel we need to be patient and give this team/head coach another 12 months together.

I would potentially revert to something like Cricket Australia and instate a “Board of Selectors” so as to ensure some trusted, outside eyes from the coaching box assist in decisions around team/squad selection. If we’d had this then maybe leaving out 3-400 test caps of experience for a World Cup wouldn’t have happened.

thanks for the clarification!

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

Doctordbx, agree this loss is the product of a much longer term problem, that’s the point I was attempting to make…

Also agree we do manage to find new “bottom’s” but no one can honestly say (doesn’t matter who the coach is) that changing a coach 9 months out, plus all assistants, was going to deliver a different result. This isn’t related to Eddie Jones it wouldn’t matter who the coach was or is, Dave Rennie should have been afforded the opportunity to take this team to the world cup, if he didn’t deliver then sure move him on.. RA management, administration and the board need to honestly own their F%&* up and step down. Their decision in the scheme of the process to getting to and competing in a world cup has driven this result. The game has much bigger issues than just this situation but RA’s decision to push out Dave and bring Eddie in with new/different assistant coaching set up has done this.. It’s not to excuse eddie or his coaching staff, they must be accountable as should the players, but RA’s administration/board made the recruitment choice.. Now they must fall on their sword and step aside.

The darkest of days today…

I don’t think anyone honestly didn’t expect to see this coming… This is a product of 15 + years of neglect, ultimately coming to this…

The upside… we can’t really get any lower, so, there’s only one way from here.

On the game though, please explain to me who thought it would be a good idea to pull Slipper at 50 minute mark and replace him with Fa’amausili, who just couldn’t scrum. Leaving that critical platform of set piece to crumble right when we needed some stability in a key moment of the game… That was honest madness for mine.

Watching this game, there were two things that stood out for me, number 1 was the boot of Ramos scoring 17 points. That was a massive difference taking the points when on offer. Yes the late try made the game look further apart than it was but without Ramos penalties i think it would have been a different story. Gordon and Donaldson need to stand up for the Wallabies this whole tournament and Skelton needs to take points when on offer. Otherwise we’re going to find ourselves in a lot of trouble chasing games.

Secondly, Morgan Turinui summed it up perfectly at the end. 62%-38% territory played in the right end of the park for the Frogs made an immense difference. Their in play kicking game was excellent and constantly turned the All Blacks around or forced them to make uncharacteristic errors or push passes. The Wallabies need to take a leaf out of the French book and be intelligent with their kicking game. Look for space, and use the boot smartly, for the Wallabies to progress in this tournament general in play kicking needs to be bang on 95% of the time.

An excellent game of footy to kick of what will be the best tournament the game has seen! Go the Wallabies!

I think there are positives out of the game, although very hard to see. You’ve got to give it to the Wallabies in the first half, to hold the argies to 10 all considering the lack of ball and territory they had that’s a good effort I believe.

I will say though, I wasn’t happy with McReight and Allallatoa pushing passes at least 3 times between the two I counted. It shows a lack of patience, these two mentioned are very good footballers and should know better than that. Mcreight attempting offloads into or in contact which subsequently lost us the ball was unnecessary. That lack of composure and patience is not international standards. He did a lot of other things well but that was sub par.

A good side by all accounts – keen to watch the forwards battle and happy to see they’ve stuck with a tried and tested backline.

played out the way you expected… I hope bell plays w the same intent and form he’s carried through SRP, it’ll be a good contest for his scrummaging ability against a good pommy front row so keen to see that battle play out.

reason I have slipper to start is experience, not that I don’t back Bell but Slipper for the first game starter is a safer play. give bell 30-40 in H2 to come on, let slipper settle into the game.

I’d like to see an adjusted version of the NRL’s “on report” calling delivered.. If someone is deemed to have acted or played in the red card threshold so be it.. but don’t waste \2-3 minutes breaking down footage frame to frame analysing it prior to making the call. Put the player on report, send he/her off, review it Monday and get on with the game. Watching league, it does help and you imagine the time saved to play footy, particularly for those at the stadium which is what they pay for, rather than making their blood boil analysing little details.

Spectators pay money to watch their stars, children included, not watching referee’s and TMO’s present an academic paper on nitty gritty details for 2 minutes sometimes more than once a game

Another perfectly normal way to look at it… it is what it is in the end..

I do think DR and the wider wallabies coaching team are trying to give Fraser McReight the most game time possible and this Australia A posting as starting 7 affords that. Here’s to him tearing that up.

If Hooper plays anywhere near like he did for the Tests last year, it’ll be tough to shift him and I think he exceeded people’s expectations in terms of performance. His test performances last year IMO were some of the best, most impactful he’s played in a string for a long time.

Martial arts, lost kgs and chats with Dave - How Harry Wilson has prepared for Wallabies return

@Johnsy, it may do. But from everything DR has said publicly said recently that won’t be happening at least in the England series, in time, those three seem like the most logical to be the starting backrow for the Wallabies into the long term future, eg 2027 RWC. But for the time being Hooper has a serious mortgage on that 7 jersey and the sooner people realise that, accept it for what it is and stop whinging the better… not saying you are but its the truth that Hooper isn’t going to be shifted by DR anytime soon, barring significant injury. People just need to accept it and move on.

After watching the Tahs closely this year, and a lot has been mentioned about the Tahs coaching staff and their ability to adapt game plans to deal with Kiwi opposition. I think the Tahs have actually played better rugby against the Kiwi’s this year than they did against the 5 other Australian teams (Drua included) before the competition came together.

Those games against the Highlanders and the Crusaders, they were clinical, dominant in contact and did the little things right. When you watch how they performed against the Reds earlier in the season for example, that wasn’t there.. It would also be a case of as the season goes on the players know one another’s playing styles better, feel more comfortable and things start to click but I do think they’ve played better rugby overall against the Kiwis than they did against Aussie teams earlier.

Would be interested to get everyone else’s thoughts on this.
