Bloody hell forgot all about ”Boy Louw”.I think I need a refresher course and spend some time going back over my dads old rugby books. The players you mentioned above would be certainties in my opinion, except for Louw. That is only because of ignorance. I’m struggling with my team and after your post, it’s just got a lot worse.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

WOW ntn001, that is some reply. Did you even read what I wrote? To start with when did I say Lomu was the greatest rugby player ever? It’s my opinion Lomu and Caucau are by far the best wingers i’ve seen, and for different reason we never saw the best of either. How you rate Lomu, i’ve never heard anyone think that way before. Lomu was something we will never see again and plenty of other codes could see that as well. The Dallas cowboys offered him $10m over 3yrs, Canterbury Bulldogs $1m year and Leads over $2m per year. Overrated, I don’t think so.

Brad Thorn, again did you read what I wrote? ”His limited skills would not allow him selection in this year’s team” I don’t recall mentioning why I think Thorn wouldn’t make the current AB starting 15. For your info I believe the current AB locks are better players, as simple as that. I also rate Hayden, Brooke and the great Sir Colin Meads ahead of Thorn, plus I think Patrick Tuipulotu will end up a better player as well. Going on your logic, how did we manage to win the WC this year when Brad didn’t play? What’s the AB’s win loss record when Thorn played and after he retired ? I am a huge Thorn fan and i realise how important he was for the team, but I can’t see your logic in rating him best player in the past 45yrs. I wont bite regard Meads, there are two sides to this story and recommend you listen to his. Mead’s is a legend and if not the greatest ever AB, he would be a very close second.

”I have personally met John Eales and I believe he’s the greatest Wallaby in history” What are you on about? Is it because you met Eales he became the greatest Wallaby? I’ve met many AB’s, thanks to a friend, my opinion of their ability and his was never influenced because ”I met them”.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

Caucau first played for Old Boys in Whangarei. A good mate raved and raved about him when he first arrived but said he was lazy, didn’t train. When he played for northland he was the same. He could of been anything, talent will only get you so far.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

ntn001, well that’s an opinion from left field. As I mentioned earlier, Thorn wouldn’t make the starting 15 for the current AB side let alone be the greatest player in the past 45yrs. This is probably a gee-up but I will bite. I was a fan of Thorn’s and yes he was a very good player, never a great one though. His league record has absolutely nothing to do with union. By the way I can’t watch league so I will take your word when it comes to his ability in that code. You made your cut off 1970, do you realise Meads didn’t retire till 71? Meads and Frik du Preez would be in my world 15. Did you ever see the likes of Eales, Johnson, Matfield, Willie John McBribe, Bill Beaumont, Paul O’Connell ever play? There are other very good locks over the past 45yrs that I should of mentioned and i’m sure i’ll remember after I post this.

I’m interested in why you don’t rate Lomu and how you came up with names like Williams, Howlett, Kirwan and Robinson as better players than him. I personally think Kirwan was overrated, and have had many arguments over this throughout his career. Was a big fan of Howlett, wouldn’t class him as a great. Campo is the only one on your list i’d put in that category.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

”South Africa were the dominant force in world rugby from the 1930s until the 1950s”. How many Maori’s were in the All Black side that played South Africa during that period?

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

Fair enough, I won’t argue with that logic. What I don’t understand though is how highly you rate O’Driscoll, because I would have him in my most overrated team of the past past 25yrs (that would be an interesting post) I don’t put O’Driscoll anywhere near the class of Philippe Sella or Danie Gerber. I could understand your point if you selected O’Driscoll over say Bruce Robertson or Tana Umaga, but Sella or Gerber I just don’t get it.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

I would change Fitzpatrick with Carter. I am a big fan of Fitzpatrick but I think Carter was the complete player. The rest I agree with.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

Marto, there are not that many players on your list i agree with. For example Burke and Smith wouldn’t of even played test rugby if they were kiwi’s, i’d say the selectors would of picked Cullen and McCaw over them. Read, Zinzan and Shelford over Kefu any day. Smith and Bachop over Farr-Jones & Gregan. It’s debatable if Thorn would make the current AB starting 15. Judging by your list i’m surprised you left off O’Driscoll, maybe you should include him instead of say Carter or Lomu.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

What about George Nepia.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

Klee I agree,Sella is the best centre i’ve seen, followed by Danie Gerber. I’d also have Bruce Robertson and Tana Umaga ahead of O’Driscoll.

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

Utah, Is it the side or the principle for you? How would you feel If Pocock was the voice for say the Koch Family Foundation?

For me it’s the principle as I strongly believe sportsman should stay out of politics until they retire. It’s bad enough that our kids have the green propaganda rammed down their throats at school they don’t need to hear it from their sporting heroes.

And yes dsat24, I do have a problem with the WWF (World Wildlife Fund)

Pocock not going anywhere: manager

Utah, you could say the same about every other comment on here then, or does that only apply to mine because you disagree with me?

Pocock not going anywhere: manager

I respect Pocock on the field but not off it. He lost me when he joined the likes of Getup and the WWF.

Pocock not going anywhere: manager

Breakdown, BOD wasn’t in the same league as the likes of Philippe Sella, Danie Gerber or Bruce Robertson. BOD would make my all time overrated 15.

A professional era rugby XV

1. Hayman 2. Wood 3. DuRant 4. Matfield 5. Johnson 6. Michael Jones 7. McCaw (c) 8. Zinzan Brooke 9. JVW 10. Carter 12. Nonu 13. Sella 14. Lomu 11. Habana 15 Cullen

ACC wouldn’t even make the oz side let alone a world 15. I also think BOD was overrated, if not Sella, Umaga would be my 13.

A professional era rugby XV

Suzie was no figment of Laurie Mains’ fevered imagination, I caught up with Ian Jones a couple of years after the 95 final and he had no reason to lie.

Vorster, how many Maori’s were selected in All Black touring sides to SA in 1928, 1949 and 1960?
