Myself…I preferred the pre-1996 tight look.
Trust a prejudiced baggy pants soccer-loving German to wreck it all.

COMMENT: THAT advantage call wasn't a shocker - the rule is just completely broken, and the fix is simple

AFL is the only sport (footie code) that has all manner of idiosyncratic rules, plays, moves etc. This is what makes it unique – ‘different’ – to anything else on the planet.
Start fiddling with too many rules and traditions and it starts turning into boring old NRL, soccer or rugby.
360 deg, huge ground that is different in every game, the speed, the ‘no send-off’ rule, the many ‘grey’ areas, the requirement of umpires to mind-read makes it harder to umpire than other codes but also what is drawing more and more people into following the game.
Everyone gets upset when they think a team has been dudded but in the main what goes round comes round. Trying to bring too much order into the nail-biting chaos that makes the game so attractive and such a growing curiosity around the world would be a big mistake.
On another matter – when did the players’ shorts change from short-short to baggy-short? Was this a rule change in interests of occupational health and safety? Or a decision of comfort over style?

Lions lost.

'Disgraceful', 'Lions robbed', 'umpires won Collingwood a premiership': AFL world erupts over last-gasp 'advantage' call

Oh, yeah…
By hook or by crook the ‘fairytale’ had to come true.
At least – I guess – it wasn’t boring.

Every grand final of the 2000s, ranked first to 24th: Which classic is 'the most underrated decider in footy history'?

Angus Crichton must be looking forward to joining old mate Hamish at RA.

The Wrap: With Wallabies done and dusted in 15 miserable days, who do we trust to take Australian rugby forward?

I take your word for GF crowd equality, however, was definitely not my experience when Swans played Hawks in 2014. My one and only trip to the jolly old G, would never go there again. Swans probably have the biggest following in Vic for teams outside the hallowed AFL state but were drowned out in voice and numbers by Hawks fans. Horrid. Quite scary, in fact.
As Brisbane is likely to have less followers in Vic that the Swans I do hope you are correct re the crowd not being a factor.
It certainly was in that other GF of 2016.
Still, I live in hope especially as all GFs are signed up to the ‘home of football’ for the next 200 years.

Finals Fix: One quarter from hell couldn't keep the Lions out of the big dance - but another might just cost them the flag

I feel like the Lions really SHOULD win next week
Aside from technicalities, problems for a Lions win must include:
1. Playing on Collingwood’s home ground.
2. Having 3/4 of the crowd against them – booing and hissing at their every move.
3. Their poor away history – regardless of all their talent etc – will make it difficult to deal with 1. and 2.
The Giants, on the other hand, managed to ignore hostile crowds and had a great away record. Such a shame about their one point loss.
Collingwood must be the favourite…
But, you never know, stranger things have happened.

Finals Fix: One quarter from hell couldn't keep the Lions out of the big dance - but another might just cost them the flag

Giants will win.

Why every team will win their AFL preliminary final... and why they'll lose

Leon Cameron receives a lot of cudos however from an onlooker’s point of view he always looked like he needed an energy pill. He never projected the enthusiasm and confidence so crucial to motivating a team’s belief in themselves. Sure, they had some success under him but then they had some excellent players too thanks to high draft picks etc. He also publicly dissed his players in a way you never hear Longmire, Clarkson, Hardwick do, which wouldn’t have done much for the team’s morale.
Adam Kingsley, aside from changing the game plan, is a ball of energy, totally committed and must also have good people skills as his change of captaincy – potentially emotionally damaging to some key players – was managed without seemingly any lingering negative after effects – in fact, quite the reverse.
Brilliant team, brilliant coach. Wish them all the best.
A non-Victorian GF between Brisbane and Giants (wish the GWS thing would go away) at the jolly old G would be the icing on the cake of an incredibly interesting season.

Finals Fix: They just pumped Port - and here's why the Giants might be Collingwood's worst nightmare too

Sure, why not. Seems fitting.
Why do we say someone has ‘passed’ when they’ve died?

COMMENT: It's time for the AFL to immortalise Ron Barassi - and only one prize is worthy of his name

Giants will win.

Why every team will win their AFL semi final... and why they'll lose

‘If he is referring to ethnic diversity they are not remotely more diverse than the AFL.’
Agree, take, for example, hairstyles…great diversity in hairstyles in the AFL but not sadly in the Soccer, WAFL etc.
It seems ponytails are an essential requirement for entry into women’s elite sport. As a short-haired sheila I get very upset when I never see my ‘authentic’ hairstyle represented.
I sense a referendum coming up to give us short-haired sheilas recognition and a voice.

The AFL shouldn’t sit in silence: why it should support the Voice at the Grand Final

Best way I can think of to encourage a No vote…still knock yourself out.

The AFL shouldn’t sit in silence: why it should support the Voice at the Grand Final

@Knackaz
Future looking good for this stable, well-organised club.
I think it was a shame they peaked too early last year – they were never going to beat Geelong’s age and bodies.
And this year injuries and inexperience did them in.
A win would have been nice but now they can go away and lick their wounds and look forward to an excellent pre-season.

Finals Fix: Forget Charlie and Harry - it was Blues' sensational smalls that sunk the Swans

Indeed…Rampe might try climbing the goal post again.

Longmire under pressure tends to go for grumpy as opposed to emotional. I’m imagining it could well be a grumpy night. I think Carlton have it in the bag.

AFL News: Goodwin responds to Maynard bump, Pies' Noble gesture, Dusty meets with Dimma

All signs of a coach under pressure
It’s finals…
Surely it’s normal for coaches to be under pressure?
Aha – but I guess they have to hide it and whistle a happy tune.

AFL News: Goodwin responds to Maynard bump, Pies' Noble gesture, Dusty meets with Dimma

would Magpies supporters would just shrug it off and say what else was he supposed to do?
Not just shrug it off but happily handle listening to the opposition roar their approval while their player was laid out on the turf?

AFL News: Goodwin responds to Maynard bump, Pies' Noble gesture, Dusty meets with Dimma

Scary, feral crowd.
Collingwood booing out of control.
What did Van Rooyen do to deserve the targeted booing??

Finals Fix: Manic Magpies expose Dees' massive flaw - but here's why they should have to win it all without Maynard

Hilarious – yet another performance by an out-of-country group who have no idea what on earth AFL is, probably where Australia is. Or Melbourne, the place Ava Gardner once said was the exact right spot to make a film about the end of the world.
Well done AFL.

AFL News: Giants fail to overturn goalsneak's ban, Cats premiership coach to present 2023 cup

Home ground advantage v home ground advantage. Does this happen in any other football code?

AFL is a very strange game.

Why every finals team can win the 2023 AFL premiership... and why they can't

Oh please P.T.S. – I understand your infatuation with the Daicos tribe but those of us who support other teams and come from other states are becoming a trifle weary of hearing the breathless sound of D..A..I..C..O..S emanating from the lips of those assembled in awe in front of the Daicos alter. The thought of Daicos clones inflitrating the code is enough to give me visual heebies.
As a side issue, can you imagine dinner at the Daicos house? The conversation? Apart from AFL? Anything?

Wings take flight, 'flat out error' on Dusty, veterans snubbed: Winners and losers from the 2023 AFL All-Australian team

For AA to be truly meaningful it should be a reward in a sport that plays internationally.
I – kind of – understand why the AFL does this but for outsiders or fans of other codes, it’s all a bit silly and meaningless.
I say this as an AFL groupie not an outsider.

Wings take flight, 'flat out error' on Dusty, veterans snubbed: Winners and losers from the 2023 AFL All-Australian team

Maybe…Swans have to do something about their fourth quarter fade-outs.
In the meantime, very excited about the Giants. Great for AFL in Sydney.

From memory Jordan Dawson was around pick 50 something when picked up by the Swans.

Swans will lose by one point.
