The current Dragons have the ability but rarely bring it out. Look at the game against South’s at Kogarah when they scored try after try throwing the ball around early. Then in the next game it was the same old boring attack – 4 up the middle, wide on the 5th and kick on the 6th. Every coach worth their salt knows exactly what the Dragons structure is. But not that game against South’s.

Pressure Points: Ben Hunt has stuck by the Dragons – now, everyone else has to help him out

Norman adds very little and is totally overpaid. A parramatta supporter said to me that getting rid of Norman was the best move they made.

The Dragons can't let Dufty go

I understand the argument for getting a more robust player at fullback. But Dufty adds a lot in attack.

With Norman on the outer, why not experiment with Dufty at five-eight. It worked well for the Bronco’s and Darren Lockyer who made a successful move from fullback. It could be the attacking spark the Dragons need. And couldn’t be worse that Corey Norman.

And while I am a Ramsey fan, I like him on the wing.

The Dragons can't let Dufty go

There were some funny decisions starting with the disallowed try. Why didn’t the bunker look at a possible Sharks knock on. The “knock on” by Dufty when it appeared the ball went backward.

Dufty has always been suspect under the high ball. But his attacking ability is brilliant. I think Dufty would be a star at five-eight. Darren Lockyer was a success moving from fullback so why not Dufty. But don’t think about putting Norman or Lomax to the back. Lomax is a great centre.

Were the Dragons dudded by this controversial '12-point turnaround'?

SC, I agree either Hunt performs at half of cut him. Dragons have a good hooker in McInnes, but playing him at lock and Hunt at hooker compromises the size of the pack.

Clune is a good half and worth sticking with. But he needs a pack going forward and a 5/8 that can produce any attack, not just be a catch and pass link.

Maybe the dragons are doing Sailor a favour by letting him go where he may get more of an opportunity.

Brisbane are 2020's biggest disappointment, but the Dragons are not far behind

For me the biggest failure of the dragons in 2020 and before was their continuing selection of underperforming players. Norman has been a total waste all year and Hunt as number 7 has underachieved. There have been few players that can hold their heads high.

Dufty, Lomax, Clune, McInnes and Frizell have had good seasons. The rest have mixed report cards. Too many errors, too many missed tackles. I don’t know what Tristan Sailor has done wrong to get offside with Mary and the dragons. He got little time to show what he could do yet never got to start, even though Norman continued to underperform.

And the dragons play under Mary was too predictable. First 4 tackles invariable were one-off hit ups. Fifth tackle try to spread the ball and sixth tackle kick. Every team in the competition knows what the dragons will do on almost every play.

I am looking forward to 2021 and watching Lomax continue to improve, Cody Ramsey and the Feagai brothers learning and growing as future stars.

But I urged the dragons to keep the young forwards and develop more.

Andrew, couldn’t agree more. Ramsey, Blacker and Sailor should have been in the starting lineup weeks ago. The loss 3 games ago meant we couldn’t reach the finals, so why not throw some youngsters in.

Norman needs to go. Clune deserves his spot. I think we need a lock bigger than McInnes. His best spot is hooker and dummy half.

I would move Dufty to 5/8 even and put Ramsey or Sailor to fullback. Try the Fegai brothers.

Drop Aiken and Frizell since they are leaving to give the young guys a go. There is absolutely nothing to lose.

What constitutes a rebuild?

Said it before and say it again, Mary is not the coach to take them to the next level. He might have been a great player, but great players don’t necessarily make good coaches.

But has recruitment contributed to the Dragons downfall. The dragons let players go who then and play good football for their new clubs. Then we recruit Hunt and Norman on obscene money. The one thing they did right was to sign Lomax and get rid of Lafai.

Let’s see what happens at the end of the year…

Has Paul McGregor done enough to survive?

Andrew, totally agree. Seems they want to throw money around to get a name. Was talking to a Parra supporter a few weeks ago and he thought the dragons did the Eels a favour buy signing Norman.

The problem with Normals is he doesn’t challenge the defence. Passes too early.

But I have to say I am an Aiken fan. And Lomax is a star in the making. He can defend, take the high ball, has a step and can slip a pass. A bit more experience and he will be a game changer, not that he isn’t now. Lomax may want to be fullback but he is a better centre.

The Paul McGregor smoke and mirrors show

I have been saying for 4 years that Paul McGregor is not the coach that can take the Dragons to the next level. Two intercept tries by Souths demonstrated that they had done their homework. But the dragons didn’t change after the first.

In past seasons the dragons have come out of the gates fast and won games. But come the second half of the season, everyone knew what they would do and easily countered every play.

Good coaches are able to evolve their play, to understand the opposition and to have more than one game plan.
