An Aussie rugby tragic in need of a soapbox having been completely spoiled by the golden era of the late 90s and early 00\'s

Diplo – waiting all week to pull yourself out of that hole mate?

Michael Hooper lucky to be suspended for just one week

Billy Pulver – this is an opinion website. RK is entitled to be surprised by anything he likes. In this case, all he’s saying is that he was surprised by the leniency of the sentence, based on a previous indiscretion (which would often result in a less lenient sentence). Seems pretty reasonable to me, yet you have found justification to attack not only his opinion, but also his choice of name. You’re being a bit silly mate. Reign it in.

As I said, I wish they’d gone for the try. BUT they had just lost 3 lineouts in a row, so their lack of belief in being able to get the ball back was probably well founded. Your original comment was about Moore backing Robshaw’s decision in light of the circumstances facing Robshaw at the time. All I’m saying is that the contexts were totally different.

Lack of bonus points could kill Wallabies' World Cup campaign

As pointed out somewhere above, there is no way Cheika wasn’t aware of bonus points. He’s all about backing his team/captain to the hilt. Had he answered with something negative like “yeah a bonus point would have been nice”. He’s wisely taken the approach that solidarity with his team is more important than telling the whole truth to a bunch of journalists post game.

Now there’s a good point I hadn’t thought of.

Lack of bonus points could kill Wallabies' World Cup campaign

Trying to come from behind to secure a win rather than having a shot for a draw is a bit different to putting a game out of reach by taking the points (ie guaranteeing victory). That said, I wish we’d gone for the try against Fiji.

SPIRO: Sorry Wallabies, Wales can survive the short turnaround

What TWAS said. I never compared them in terms of ability. Completely missed the point Diplo. Well done.

Five talking points from the Wallabies' win over Fiji

Sad, but true. My statement still stands based on current form.

I don’t mind the box kick when it’s used from (close) inside the 22 as a clearing kick, or in midfield when put as high and as deep as possible to allow a contested catch. Aaron Smith does both of those extremely well. The problem with Genia’s box kicking is that he needs to be getting about 5 more metres of height and 10 more metres in length to chew off a bit more territory and allow his chasers a shot at it. Obviously there are issues with using the kick when there are no chasers, which comes down to a need for improved communication and understanding of the systems leading up to the use of such a kick.

I’d say the bench was emptied later than it might have been had the second stringers not been looking at a run on start in a few days. Their match time will come. Also, running the starters into the ground now will have helped to blow out some of the fitness cobwebs that will inevitably have been hanging around after a fairly lengthy break from test rugby for some of them.

Five talking points from the Wallabies' win over Fiji

Lucky the 1999 Wallabies didn’t take your advice DiploMatt; they’d have never played Tim Horan based on his 1995 tournament.

I would take a slightly off his best Genia over Phipps any day. At least with Genia there is a perceived running threat which puts doubt in the wider defenders’ minds. When Phipps came on and we had that run of phases on about the half way line in the last 10 minutes, our one and two out runners were continually chopped down well behind the advantage line because the defenders knew there was no danger of Phipps sniping in behind them and so were able to rush out of the line.

Phipps provides nothing when the forwards aren’t going forward.

Well done and thanks, Spiro and the team at The Roar.

SPECIAL SPIRO: How the Webb Ellis Cup was won in a land that rumbles

He’s been carrying a lot of injuries this year (groin, knee, achilles, shoulders x 2) which have had a definite impact on his play. I think the Reds early exit from Super Rugby would have let some of the niggles heal, but he is still slated to have surgery on both shoulders post world cup.

Wallabies team to play USA: James Slipper to become 83rd captain

Great to see Slipper get the armband for this game. Hopefully it brings back a bit of his form from last year.

Wallabies team to play USA: James Slipper to become 83rd captain

While it is a big game for both teams, I don’t think either of them need Gatland, all plucky from his side’s latest win, to tell them that.

Gatland piles pressure on England

It’s a widely held view that he had a poor season. Can you point to any games in which he excelled?

Wallabies squad isn't that bad, and Hayne delivers for the ARU

“Death or Glory” – Amen.

How the Wallabies can attack the Rugby World Cup

Agree. The unfair implication of all this “Beale is the only one who can cut Folau loose” talk is that Folau can’t make his own chances without the help of another, which we all know is complete BS. If anything, Beale’s claims have probably been enhanced simply because he has been in the fortunate position of throwing the last pass to a guy who often goes on to create something out of nothing.

How the Wallabies can attack the Rugby World Cup

I hope Douglas proves you right, but I still think it is madness that we’re even having to ask this question. We KNOW Horwill is in good form, so why not use him??

How the Wallabies can attack the Rugby World Cup

Absolutely agree with Toomua in over Beale. David places much of his value in his ability to unleash Izzy, but I think don’t think that’s enough justification. Folau will give that impression about anyone playing inside him for enough games.

Whether or not the fly halves play flat is really out of their hands. You can only play flat when your opposition are back peddling or at least not set. If either of them were to play flat against a set defense they would be being tackled pretty much as they caught the ball which is no good for anyone. It’s about picking the right time to flatten up, which all depends on how the forwards are traveling.

Genia – As long as his service is consistently out in front of the runner and fairly quick, I’ll be happy. That plus a return to at least 80% of his 2013 form would be a bonus.

Pooper – Their impact in tandem around the field is just too much to ignore. Hopefully the inclusion of Simmons back in the lineout will fix a few of the issues we’ve seen in the last couple of games. Fingers crossed we don’t pick up any hooker issues. I would be a lot more comfortable if we had Hanson’s throwing ability in the squad.

Scrum – The great unknown. Some positive signs there but I still get the feeling that this is where the cup will be won or lost.

How the Wallabies can attack the Rugby World Cup

No need to be so defensive, Twins.

Wallabies must learn the art of gutter fighting

That may be true, but I still have nightmares about those first 8 minutes!

Cheika's selection gambles unlikely to pay off

Turn the phone off and keep that head in the sand, DT, until you make it to the safety of your lounge room for the replay. One of my (now former) friends has rudely decided to get married on Saturday afternoon so I am in a similar boat. Considering distributing flyers to all the wedding guests to warn them off ruining the replay for me.
