Ashes Scout: Clarke's 'no-brainer' keeper call, Smith reveals sweet revenge on legend, Stokes' near-death experience

For what it’s worth. I have been very impressed with the improvement in Phillipe’s keeping recently. He clearly has been putting in a lot of work. To the quicks, his movement is early and in the right direction, his footwork has good cadence and is large amplitude, hands position also looks good. I have only seen him keep to spin in T20.

Inglis now and develop Phillipe’ too at test level.

Iv’e been a big Carey fan for 3-4 seasons now. Selectors failed to get him in (another one), and he has’t developed the top level skills, gets wrong footed too often, sad really.

Steve Smith is perfectly capable at 3 and averages 60 each time at crease, compared with 61 in at 4.
He should be stepping up, not being protected, he should be playing for the team, not for himself.
That way we shore up the top order and can develop strength in the middle order, which has been neglected for so long we have been putting our best batter in there, and attempting to find someone “safe” to follow just in case of collapse; it’s not working. Green at 4 and Renshaw or Head at 5.
Green looks like he’s gonna deliver with the bat, I hope Pat Cummins can mentor his bowling match play, and turn him into a good shock bowler, that’s all he should be.
Renshaw seems to have found himself lower down the order and bats well with the tail. I’m still not convinced by Head at test level, the best bowlers always seem to work him out.
I think its a good idea to put a buffer between Smith and batters he has less confidence in because he can be guilty of holding the strike and his batting partner loses concentration.

I would like to see Labuschagne open.

If Inglis is the man with the future, pick him now. The practice of endless picking stopgap players has resulted in passing over too much talent in the last 10 years and has got to end.

Aww, poor Stokesy, doesn’t your heart just bleed…

“Australia can no longer afford a tipsy topsy fifth bowling option,,,”

GOLD 😁

Forget the negatives, Australian cricket is in a great place ahead of the Ashes

I agree, and although I would like to see the younger Renshaw in the mix with his new found middle order, bats well with bowlers role forming up, he’s also very tidy in slips.

Leader is lich in the grandstand.

Of course he wants to do it.

There’s yr problem.

Yes, it’s gonna be really interesting. I’m also full of curiosity as to how he manages Starc, assuming he’s selected, I would rather see Swepson and J Richardson in the mix.

I feel for Patrick here, that the appointment of Smith as VC has compromised him from the outset. There’s no denying Smith wants the job back.

I have watched him play dozens of times at the Gabba and ABF, I do not see any lack of self awareness or self control, (the opposite: he is the most focussed person on the field) That childlike characterisation is a false one and something that happens in this tiny echo chamber, much less elsewhere, especially among international cricket fans, who do not mock him with derogatory slurs like “dill”. I have met him two occasions and he is an engaging warm and intelligent young man and generous with his time. Far from the fatuous brat persona you are so determined to retail.

I can’t believe the disrespectful drivel that is constantly dished out on Marnus. A player that has done nothing but give everything he has to his teammates and the national cricket team.
And you all belittle him with the most ungracious and uncalled for slander. I presume it’s envy or jealousy or both.
Shame on you.
Called upon in crisis, Labuschagne has delivered again and again. And will do so again and again.

What a load of rubbish. Seriously, it’s BS and all over this forum.

Marnus Labuschagne doesn't flinch after copping bouncer in the side of the head

Tony, its far more important than that.

A good comment. We are often given the examples of successful bowling captains – Walsh and Younis.
Then Dev and Imran and Pollock and Cairns and Flintoff and Vittori – Bowling all rounders.
Except perhaps for Flintoff and VittoriI don’t believe the off field demands of media and business are anywhere near the current environment with Franchise cricket on top of National duties.
Pat Cummins has his work cut out, he has to bat too, bats dont have to bowl.
I wish him well.
I should point out that Marnus Lauschagne is, with the arguable exception of Smith, the first bat picked in the current team. There is no way anyone can claim he is not established.
I believe Labuschagne is easily the best choice for Captain, his vital temperament and personal commitment to quality are the signifiers of a great captain, he would step up without any of the ambivalence that has been seen from Cummins … the future is NOW.

I think your point is, CA had no business appointing Bailey as Chairman of selectors when there were glaring conflicts of interest with the current playing group, especially with the captain.
And Bailey should not have accepted the position when he was obviously conscious of the high likelihood of that conflict coming to the fore immediately.

Racism.

'He should not be vice captain': Warne opposes Smith call as Cummins confirmed as skipper

Further to that is that Labs won’t be able to achieve that with the older group. They need to go.

McCullum has set a new standard there, and Williamson continues in the same vein.
Australia lags behind in developing a competitive morality.
Should’ve hired Charleswoth years ago, ignored Don Argus ( both hockey players) I was coached by Don and he took our club to 4 Premierships and produce 6 international including a captain and the most capped player ever.
Though my brother was at the AIS, I only know Charlie by reputation. He believes that performing at your best in team sport is a moral imperative, only you can be responsible for that and how you find solutions in yourself and from your supports to improve.

Seriously though, Aus cricket so boring it’s like it’s sleeping with it’s eyes open.

We need some charisma up front, in charge, on the field.
Patty is the most solid guy ever and has everyone’s respect. But getting chaps revved into a red hot frenzy to smash the opposition.

Hmmm, no.
