An interesting fact is that both North and Carlton (excluding The Gold Coast) have the longest drought of not playing in a grand final – both in 1999. Yet, since then, Carlton has had 5 wooden spoons and North have had none. I know Carlton were heavily sanctioned for their “cash in a paper bag” deals resulting in them finishing last in 2002, 2003 and 2006 but they also collected wooden spoons in 2015 and 2018. North has also played finals in 9 seasons since then yet Carlton has only played in 6 (and 1 of those was due to the Essendon vitamin saga).
There is talk that North should not be given the Good Friday game again. However, Carlton has yet to beat Richmond since both teams were given the opening game of the season (started in 2015). Even at the start of this year, Carlton has only managed to beat the Dockers which was played in Melbourne, a city that the Dockers have struggled for wins in recent times.
I think there should be more focus on the Blues than the Roos.
Note. North’s last wooden spoon was in 1972 and since then all teams bar Port Adelaide, Hawthorn and Geelong have finished last, though they are favourite this year.

The main problem for North is they never bottom out for several years. They are consistently average. Don’t tend to get too many top 3 or 4 draft picks.

Especially the blatant head high tackle on Ben Jacobs in the last quarter right in front of goals. Would have had the Roos down by less than 2 goals with enough time to win it, though they weren’t playing the best by then.

I was at the game and you couldn’t hear yourself think after the final siren. The Eagles supporters were so loud.

Look what happened to Sydney in the finals last year when Buddy was out. They played well against the Dockers but fell away against the roos. Yes, they had other injuries but highlights how much they rely on Buddy.

Is the AFL's top four an aberration, or a sign of things to come?

And the closest they got to any of those teams was 39 points.

Love the start to the Wired World of Sport – “No, it’s just not cricket. At least that’s what Allan Border and the boys are saying over there in Bombay this week as the poor old Aussies start getting the runs, before a ball has even been bowled.”

and the classic “…. had a sorely swollen foot but I saw him in the change rooms and it didn’t look like a foot to me, closer to 8 or 9 inches.

12th man, Rodney Rude and Kevin Bloody Wilson. What a great learning experience growing up with the three of them.

I’m sure Swallow will disagree with you about Hodge.
