It’s only a controversy if you (mistakenly) think it was a run out. As a stumping there is no controversy to see at all with the dismissal

“…the Bairstow ‘run-out’.” The whole incident is controversial if you view it as a run-out. However it wasn’t a run-out and it’s incorrect to characterise it as such. It was a stumping, plain and simple even if it was off a fast bowler. Viewed as that its actually far more straight forward, and just Bairstow being careless with his wicket (so well in tune with Bazball from what I can see!)
