it would have been nice for super rugby to be on free to air tv in Australia but its not the answer to rugby’s problem that everyone is saying. I remember the old NBL basketball comp was on FTA and we all know what happen to that comp. American football and other minority sports have been shown and still are on FTA in Australia for years and it didn’t make a different if any to those sports.

FTA rugby: what is an acceptable cost to the viewer

Nothing boring about rugby internationals Col Quinn, you wont like international test matches or super rugby if your not a fan in the first place.

FTA rugby: what is an acceptable cost to the viewer

What does that got to do with the cross code games discuss avobe peeeko?

Time for a Wallabies vs Kangaroos match already!

Most of the Wallabies opposition in rugby are bigger and it made no different to them Wales13. How many times to league, ruck, maul, lift in the lineouts, scrum, clear players from rucks and continue on from been tackle for 80 minutes?

Time for a Wallabies vs Kangaroos match already!

Does that goes for the world club challenge as well?

Time for a Wallabies vs Kangaroos match already!

Two of your post has been nothing but excuses with the one above and the sale vs st helens game.

Time for a Wallabies vs Kangaroos match already!

So the world club challenge is a miss match because the NRL clubs that take part in it are still on their christmas break. I had no idea Paul Newlove and Sean Long were academy players.

Both clubs have promised to field their strongest possible sides and St Helens have drafted in Gary French, a former hooker with Bath and London Welsh, to assist coach Ian Millward. “It should be a great challenge and all my players are very, very keen on it,” Millward said.

“We’re going to take it very seriously.

Sale spring cross-code shock

Sale were inspired by former league man Robinson
St Helens 39-41 Sale
Sale struck a blow for rugby union with a surprise victory over Super League champions St Helens in the cross-code challenge at Knowsley Road.

Saints were predictably overrun at the 15-man game and narrowly failed to claw back a 41-0 deficit as the Sharks adapted remarkably well to the league code.

St Helens could have snatched a draw but Sean Long missed a last-minute conversion attempt as he struggled to contend with a stiff breeze that meant he was off target with five of seven kicks at goal.

The consolation for the Super League men was a share of gate receipts from the 12,257 crowd, which caused a 15-minute delay and was bettered only twice last summer.

St Helens looked rusty on their return to action after a two-month break and, even at league, their display was characterised by a series of forced passes and fumbles.

The Super League champions were ground into submission in a first half in which the Sharks dominated possession and territory to create space for their wingers to run in three of their seven tries.

A rolling maul in the opening minutes which had the limited Saints forwards back-pedalling 30 yards downfield set the tone for the opening half.

Sale controlled all the set-piece play and frequently turned over what ball the rugby league side were able to muster.

I expected to win because we are more skilful but my pride is not dented – I’m just disappointed we didn’t score more points

Saints declined to take on their visitors at their own game, kicking at first phase, but former League man Jason Robinson lapped up the opportunity to run the ball back at them.

Winger Steve Maden went closest to scoring a try but Saints’ attacks were few and far between.

Sale left winger Steve Hanley, who trained with Saints last summer, grabbed two tries while the rest came from right winger Mark Cueto and forwards Phil Davies (2), Dean Schofield and Stuart Turner.

Scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth was able to convert just three of the tries but that was enough to secure victory.

In the second half, Saints winger Ade Gardner scored a couple of tries and others came from Maden, Paul Newlove, Chris Joynt and John Kirkpatrick.

Just as I thought, the book of the greatest excuses of the greastest shame will be use toady as well.

You also know very well that participation in France RL has expanded from approximately 10,000 senior players in 2006 to close to 50,000 now. RU has declined from 25,000 senior players to just over 19,000 senior players from 2009 to 2012, the Welsh Rugby League has grown from around 1000 senior players in 2006 to over 4000 in 2012.
No RUWC has ever ended in the black, the RUWC 2011 made a loss of atleast $24,000,000.
The All Blacks have just been offered $10,000,000 in lost revenue by the IRB in the face of the 2015 RUWC. RU internationals want compensation for playing, how ironic.

Yes, His figures are wrong for Wales, I checked and there are just on 2000 senior Welsh League players. Most of these are apparently Rugby players taking advantage of the League’s Summer Competition. I also understand that the League’s Challenge Cup final was the second highest rating sports program on BBC

What ratings did the challenge cup final got on BBC?

Time for a Wallabies vs Kangaroos match already!

Was that the same UK institute where you got rugby league outrates rugby union on BBC and league clubs in North Island get more crowds than ITM cup in NZ?

Enough said, maybe you and MAJB can stop talking nonsense and let us know which rugby league comp outrates rugby on BBC in MAJB case the challenge cup second most rate sport on BBC?

No bitter, negative or talk positive at all times buttons here, sorry. We all know how the word opportunity works at least for other football codes except rugby league. When rugby union and AFL signed up youngsters from rugby league we hear the same button been pressed, there’s no grassroot talents in rugby, why can’t they use their own players, French rugby league juniors not allowed to switch codes buttons. Yet when rugby league signed rugby union juniors from NZ, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga or some rugby union hotel porter in Suva its all about sharing and opportunity. O’Connor must have alot of spare time and money to fly all over the place looking at league kids and also have time to watch rugby sevens, club rugby, super rugby, school sevens and take part in coaching clincs around Australia and fly around the world with his sevens squad yet I don’t know any rugby league talents in the Australian sevens team at the moment except for Walker.
I have never seen any NZ, Samoan, Fijian or Tongan rugby union scouts at rugby league tournaments or matches in Australia but there are many rugby league scouts from the NRL in NZ, and those Pacific Islands countries looking at rugby union kids or hotel porters.
The RFU have more players than rugby league put together but we have no problem with them signing up players from league and rugby fans don’t have any problems with it or said there was a problem with grassroots. Yo know you use that line more times than both rugby union and rugby league fans on this site put together so I gather you won’t be mention it again. Poor Kurtley Beale his name is been mention more times this week by you than the media in Australia.

Freddy and Joey: The NRL’s Pacific solution

Imagine if some Wallabies go to PNG and sign a bricklayer who is a rugby league player and offer him a contract, rugby league fans will be having a field day on here saying there’s no talents in Australia and so on but its ok to sign rugby union players and give him a contract without even seeing him play a game. Is there something wrong with grassroots RL in the NRL that they will buy many rugby union players and can’t find any talents among 500,000 rugby league players in NZ, PNG and Australia? There are plenty of rugby league people out there who just need an opportunity and wish they can be taken to a rugby field and catch a high ball or fly in and fly out from NZ to Sydney every weekend without training with his teamates just so they can start a career in the NRL.

Freddy and Joey: The NRL’s Pacific solution

Many local top rugby union players and managements were poached with superleague money to turn out for a semi-pro franchises in Tonga, Fiji and Samoa. The money ony lasted two years and all players returned to their rugby union clubs.

Freddy and Joey: The NRL’s Pacific solution

Who were those Tongans, Samoa and Fijian players in the St George team in the late 60’s MAJB? There was no rugby league in those islands in that period.

Freddy and Joey: The NRL’s Pacific solution

Was there an agreement or something why kids from rugby league or rugby union clubs weren’t allowed to switch codes back in those days in France, NZ, Australia and England? Maybe those rugby league kids (if any) in France wanted a better oppotunity since rugby union huge in Southern France in those days. We had many rugby league kids who came to rugby union in New Zealand for over 100 years just so they can play in the NPC. I don’t see anything wrong with that.
Do you have any names of ex RL juniors who switch to rugby union in France or is this one of those statements you see on Leaguewiki?

NRL gets another reminder of how modern sport works

It took the professional game of rugby league in Australia over 100 years to get a IC. Will rugby union take that long now they are a professional sport? Time will tell.

NRL gets another reminder of how modern sport works

The French rugby union comp in its amateur days were still massive compared to rugby league. Maybe they wanted to play in the five nations, tour the world and get notice outside of their town. Which rugby league juniors are we talking about I have no idea any were playing in the French team.

Folau's move to rugby highlights NRL failings

What do you call the league talent scouts from 1908 to 1996? Was there something wrong with your grassroots in that period too?

He’s actually only on about $250K for the season which isn’t as good as he would have commanded 2 years ago.

Why rugby is like sex and league is like good sex

Looks more like a rugby league fan living in Sydney taking the pis* and pretending to be a fan of the bigger code. How many times have we heard this line about someone or some rugby union fans switch to rugby league when they watch a game? Its not happening in NZ or the UK where both sports are on tv and there is no chance it will overtake soccer or rugby in the Pacific Islands. Samoa only have 8 rugby league teams.
