I think West Coast have done well. There is a number of very good young west aussies that fall in the 15-30 range such as Naughton, Allen and Taylor. All were all Australian and I think West Coast will get 2 of them. Probably won’t get Naughton.

Callum Twomey is incredibly Vic-centric in his appraisals. Regularly leaves out All-Australians in his top 20 prospects if there not from Victoria.

Good luck with his parents Melbourne.

Can someone tell me what the big attraction is in going to Port Adelaide? Genuine question. They have done brilliantly this trade period in my opinion.

Jack Watts completes Port Adelaide's perfect trade period

I reckon it is good news. Weller is so overrated. Freo should be able to get more than he is worth pick-wise. I am a bit more disappointed in only getting pick 40 for Crozier though.

AFL trade news and rumours Day 7 wrap: Adam Saad, Lachie Weller, Andrew Swallow

Totally agree but am worried Freo will fall for this like they did last year with McCarthy.

AFL trade news and rumours Day 6 live blog

I agree. There is also a host of competent ruckmen running around in the wafl and sanfl that are a mile better than Lobb but have never been given the chance ro prove themselves.

The umpires were terrible! Completely overwhelmed by the Richmond crowd for large swaths of the game. No wonder Richmond won’t be frightened of Adelaide…

Underdog Tigers have no fear of Crows

Agree. Darling is a very good player

The West Coast Eagles are headed for the cliff's edge

Look, I don’t know Mark Lecras from a bar of soap, and I hate the Eagles, but if 32 goals in a season as a small forward means your finished then I think eagles fans and the footy media have become delusional. That’s a perfectly fine season no matter how you look at it.

One last roll of the dice for the Eagles?

Ryan will get drafted but clubs will be closely monitoring if his fitness has improved from last years combine where he registered the worst ever beep test.
Tim Kelly and Schloithe should also get looked at. Both are ready to go.

Best ruckman of his generation!!! Your having a lend.

GWS bounce back, West Coast hit an off-season of uncertainty

Anyone have an opinion on what gws could reasonably expect from Freo for Nathan Wilson?

AFL trade rumours: Kelly re-signs, Stringer cut loose

This is turning into the dream run for west coast.

Mumford and Cameron out for the season

Yeah I thought exactly the same thing. And to then lecture them for not following the game plan…. come on Kochie I’d be surprised if you even knew the game plan.

It’s all well and good to pursue excellence but you keep those things behind closed doors.

Koch puts Power players on notice

Yeah I agree. West Coast is full of players that have played plenty of finals and Port’s only hope is to get well on top in the midfield. Kennedy destroys lesser light backmen so I am predicting a tough night out for Port.

Port Adelaide Power vs West Coast Eagles first elimination final preview and prediction

Adelaide, Geelong, Sydney. West Coast as the only upset.

How the underdogs can win in Week 1 of the finals

Great article and pretty much sums up where Fremantle are at. One of the things that fans (including myself) and outsiders need to understand is that rebuilds don’t take 6 months. Everyone wants them to but they don’t. They can take years, or never even get there (Carlton, Melbourne). For this reason I think things will get worse before they get better. There is a dearth of quality on the list and at the moment we are having to put games into players who wouldn’t be getting a game elsewhere in the hope it pays off. Time will tell, but at least Fremantle are committed to a proper rebuild. Guys like Tucker, Logue , Weller will be the better for it in the long term.

As for Lyon, I am still of the belief he is the man for the job. Much of the footy was terrible this year, but again, this is a reflection more of the list than anything. The board should be casting a close eye over the list management team. It is criminal we are still chasing a full forward after 22 + years. The problem for Lyon is that he has completely lost the goodwill of the fans because of the awful style of footy they play. He is trying to change but Fremantle just don’t have any decent forwards and too few elite kicks. This time next year I believe the board will be under immense pressure to move him on but they should hold firm. No coach in the league could have got more than 8 wins with this list.

As for the list. Pick 5 should be used for the best available player. Back, mid, forward it doesn’t matter. Fremantle need class across all lines and this pick should not be for trade.

Keep- Ballantyne. I know, he’s getting on and falls over alot but he looked sensational in the pre-season until he got injured. He is still ferocious and desperate and should be good for two more years.
Mundy. Still a class act and you need guys like Mundy to show the way for the young blokes.
Sandilands. He’s not getting any shorter. He was never fast so that doesn’t matter. I would keep Sandi and Darcy as the sole ruckmen on the list.

Delist- Johnson. Been a champ but just seems so slow now I see no point in keeping him on.
D.Pearce. Contracted for another year but needs to be paid out.
Z.Dawson.
Z.Clarke. How he is still on the list is a mystery.
Griffin. Good role player but finished.
Sheridan. Just hasn’t gotten better.
Deluca. Wafl player.
Apeness. Perennially injured but when he hasn’t been I have seen him play one good game of wafl in five years.
Ibbotson.
Suban.
Collins. Serviceable but no point being on the list for no reason.

Concerns- Crozier. Should be kept but needs to show something soon.
Taberner. I rate him but needs to kick some bags.
Grey. Tough but needs to be more than just tough. Worth his spot on the list though.
McCarthy. The disappointment of the year. Had a shocker. For a big bloke seems to avoid physical contact and wants to get easy goals out the back.

The highlight of the year was Blakely before he got injured. Really came on nicely.

At the draft Fremantle need to pick the best available player at pick 5 and then target goalkickers. Even be prepared to look at mature goalkickers in the wafl and other leagues.

The two main problems at Fremantle in my opinion are lack of goalkickers and lack of elite users of the ball. The lack of goals has been at crisis point for years- well before Ross Lyon came in and the team is full of players that can find the footy but not dispose of it cleanly.
I expect there to be changes in the assistant coaching panel and in the list management team.

Fremantle have much to do to reach Ross Lyon's 2020 vision

Yeah na. Hopefully Richmond can win a final but zero chance of winning the big one.

Hardwick: Tigers can achieve AFL ultimate

I thought Blakely was our best for most of the year, and he usually did it when the chips were down.

Adelaide have nothing to play for today.

Dee disappointment leaves door open for a finals flop

Collins is slow. Really slow.

AFL trade rumours: Lever says no to Dogs, Martin still on the market

Deboer is a fantastic team man and a handy role player.
How’s this for a list management fail by Freo- Deboer, Barlow and Muzungu all gone for nothing, while Dawson, D.Pearce, Ibbotson and Suban stay.

Injuries behind them, who exactly is in GWS' best 22?

Blakely has improved to the point where he is possibly our best player- it helps when you draft natural footballers.
It is going to get worse before it gets better for Fremantle. I expect us to get the wooden spoon next year and our percentage is an indication of this. The ladder position massively flatters us. I have zero faith in our administration to do the right thing but all I can hope for is that they are currently planning to throw money at the best assistants in the league. Kirk or chocco would be who I would be looking at. It will be at least 2020 before Fremantle will be playing finals.
