Passionate Rugby fan. First and foremost the Tahs but love to see all the Australian conferences do well. Enjoy league and cricket.

I agree that Foley should be at Five eighth, but to call McKenzie an idiot in the same breath as saying Beale cant pass & loop is pretty rich…..If you did not see Beale do exactly that many times this season whilst standing at first receiver for the Tahs… then you did not watch. If you did not watch, then don’t comment on Beale’s capabilities.

McKenzie selections shades of Deans?

Absolutely. Living in Sydney now but support will be right behind the Eagles.

National Rugby Championship: Round 2 preview

I really enjoyed the televised game last week and have since checked out the Eagles game via podcast. Both were excellent spectacles and with drier conditions would have been even better. I have organised a group to have a mini reunion at one of the Eagles home games in Central West NSW and look forward to a few games on the hill at Leichardt with my Stars membership. Great article El Gamba and I completely agree with your sentiments. Support what we have in the current format and hope that the support then shows that there is enough demand to make more televised games, FTA coverage, more teams etc tenable ventures. Really enjoying the positivity from the vast majority.

NRC broadcasting the key to success

Agreed. Liked the rugby and cannot see how the small changes in what is essentially a feeder competition into super rugby will have the dire consequences that Sheek foresees. More young players getting exposure to a high level of rugby will result in greater depth for Super Rugby and eventually Test Rugby. They might need to tweak their approach to the game when they get to the next level but not to any great extent.
Some people want to devolve the game back to the pre professional era. I understand that their memories of those days are great ones, but I am sure I am not the first to tell them that evolution is inexorable. So jump on board or don’t bother… but good luck changing it.

Law variations are the real killer of the NRC

I just heard that the ‘powers that be’ heard your well reasoned criticism Terry and are on the job of changing those laws now. Looking forward to having your support.

ARC veterans look forward to doing it all again in the NRC

Exactly right. I am a one eyed Tahs supporter but am not naive enough to think that the Tahs backline should be picked up and plonked into the Wallabies. Toomua is a must with his defence and he is not bad on attack either just quietly. Foley can feel slightly aggrieved but the idea has legs and is worth a try. Cannot wait for Speight to be available as well. I think that he will make a big difference to our overall capability. The forwards will need to turn up and play with fire and heart. I am sure that they will if a great crowd gets there to cheer them on. Looking forward to it.

Ewen McKenzie is playing Russian roulette with the Wallabies

agreed. Certainly should not be rated equal on form with Higgers for the season. One was clearly better than the other.

Take two: Were the Wallabies selected on form?

Watching rugby at all throughout the season? If so you would have had to keep your eyes peeled to see Rob Horne defend badly. He missed 3 tackles for the entire season….. You could legitimately have a go about him in regard to speed or flair… but defence… ‘fraid not.

McKenzie announces revamped Wallabies team for Bledisloe Cup opener

I sympathise mate. You are fighting an uphill battle though. Just let them talk sh*t and discuss sacking Link for losing the Bledisloe before the first game is played. I assume that Toomua and Beale will be playing a very similar game to Foley and Beale for the Tahs. Exciting lineup as far as I am concerned.

Not quite, he missed three all season. Apparently that makes him swiss cheese as opposed to one of the best defenders of the competition….

“We just lost the test” talk about collapsing under pressure. The first sign of things not going your way and you give the game to the Kiwis. Chin up tiger. We dont even play until Saturday.

I have heard it all now we are questioning AAC’s defence…. It is amazing how negative Australian supporters can get. Kuridrani is simply not a much better defender than AAC. Not is he a better outside centre. He has had a good year and is a good player but if selecting on form then AAC is the right choice. If there are any questions it would be about Beale stepping in for Foley, but I can see the method behind the madness. I would have been more conservative, but am pumped to get out to ANZ and see the Wallabies really put it to the AB’s with some attacking rugby. It seems that some on here have put up the white flag already…..

Genia is not available Harry. He is injured. It was either Phipps, White or Burgess.

why McCabe over Horne? Horne has played out of his skin this season and missed 3 tackles for the year…. I like Pat McCabe and could not believe he was on the bench for half the year for Brumbies when he provided more attacking flair than anyone in the run on other than Toomua, but I would not have him in front of Horne. Bench for sure though.

Pick The Roar's Wallabies team for the Bledisloe Cup

If it is 50/50 it would have also decided the game if it was not called….. Unfortunately he is damned either way. It is just whether Aussies blow up or Kiwis. To be honest it is done now and the Tahs were the better team on the day.

Joubert's decision was wrong, and SANZAR know it

A lot of them were at home for the rest of the season, by home I mean in Dubbo, Wagga, Tamworth etc etc etc. I saw mates there from all over NSW that had converged for the first home final in history. It is not that easy for a lot of people to get to every game, but to call them bandwagoners is ignorant and unnecessary.
Perhaps there were others that got cought up in the hype and came along for the ride, but that is what it is all about. We are trying to build the following of the sport. Every fan has to have a first game…. why put a negative spin on it. I was in the crowd and there was nothing negative about it. It was a spectacle and one hell of a night.

Crowd carries Waratahs to Super Rugby glory

If you have another look at his attempted tackle of Todd, I think that it was a calculated risk. If he went low there was a high chance that Todd was going over anyway with momentum. He needed to go high and try to knock the ball loose or get solid enough contact to get him out over the sideline. He failed, but he came close and I think what he did was the best chance he had of denying the try.

Nine things we can take from the Tahs' triumph for rugby in Australia

Red Kev, Is Kerevi really ready for a call up for the Wallabies? Even in the event of injuries. I have only seen him play in a couple of games and was extremely impressed with his breakout game against the force. He was not nearly as good the next week against the Waratahs though and it would seem a tad premature to put him in the running for a Wallabies spot before he cements one at Super Level. I am very much looking forward to seeing how he goes in the NRC though. I like Coleman as well, have been impressed with his physicality for the force this year.

Is Davidson making a comeback for the NRC. He retired last year with Tom Carter. I know Carter could not help himself, but had not heard or seen Tim about.

NRC franchise Wallaby alignments announced

Although my heart will be with NSW Country, I have put all the Stars Leichardt games in the calendar as it is a little easier for me to get to. Great mix of Saturdays, Sundays and the bellringer of a game against country on the Monday of the long weekend! Cannot wait. Great news about Cameron Treloar as well Brett, he will be a great addition to the country roster. He is getting on a bit though. Would have to be mid thirties.

National Rugby Championship draw announced

Your profile image suits that response perfectly Will….

The Tahs will go back and work on the lineout. I think that TPN has been pretty good for the last month or so up to the Reds game and hopefully he can get that form back for the finals. If we play to our potential, I honestly think that we should win the comp. It is not like other years where you were hoping the Crusaders et.al had an off night so that we were in with a shot. Got my tickets and can’t wait for the finals.

The Waratahs cannot win the Super Rugby title, unless...

Nothing to do with the fact that there needs to be availability of the existing infrastructure at very short notice Boris. Lets make unnecessary remarks about James Grant instead of thinking about it.

I am from the South West and think that it would be great to see a game down that way but am pretty sure that it is not due to that. It seems from your other posts that you are from the Central North so the best option would be to ask Dave Carter the reason that Tamworth or Armidale are not possibilities this season.

NRC update, part 2: NSW Country and the Sydney teams

That is exactly what I have been thinking Matt. The main reason behind the lack of good old family friendly afternoon rugby is the broadcaster…. without them in the picture so to speak we might be able to enjoy if for a couple of seasons at least.

NRC update part 1: Queensland, Perth, Melbourne and Canberra

Enjoy it when it gets here. Looking forward to a few afternoon games at Leichardt!

NRC update part 1: Queensland, Perth, Melbourne and Canberra

I agree with Denby, unnecessarily harsh on McCutcheon. He may not be a world beater, but to say he makes zero impact, is small (6’2″ and 102kg btw) and slow without any skills is just stupid. He has had little opportunity to show his wares since he badly broke his ankle in 2012 scoring a great try from a charge down. I would say that you are welcome to your opinions if you can back them up but to be so harsh on a bloke who has put a hell of a lot of effort and time into rugby is a sh*t call…. in my opinion.
