Last year so is last year. Does Freo get to play finals this year because they were good last year? Of course not. Geelong were terrible last year, not this year. What the Eagles did or didn’t do last year means less than nothing.

Home heroes and roadkill: The West Coast conundrum

It all boils down to this: the Eagles are overrated.

West Coast aren’t flat track bullies

yep, agreed. Another ‘fix’ for a non-issue.

Changes could lead to more confusion with AFL shot clock

I love that game.

Home heroes and roadkill: The West Coast conundrum

From what I have seen so far West Coast is a bottom 10 team, or very close to it. Their fixture should keep them in the eight.

West Coasts average winning margin this year: 66 points.
West Coasts average losing margin this year: 43 points.

Only two other teams have close to that gulf between best and worst. They are Port Adelaide (51.5/48.5) and Collingwood (49.3/44.2).

While I realise West Coast can only play who the fixture tells them to, they have beaten absolutely no one. Their five wins come against teams that combined have won all of 8 games between them, out of a possible 40. I’m not sure if you had picked the 5 easiest teams to play it would be any easier.

Yes, West Coast has lost to three good teams, yes all of those games were away, however, they didn’t look even remotely competitive in any of them.

Unless they miraculously climb into the top 2 and get home finals, there simply is no way they will get anywhere close to a Grand Final this year. Not when they lose by an average of 43 points on the road to any side they are likely to face.

wow 72 … Geelong beat WCE with 65. Any other excuses you’d like me to debunk Donald?

Yeah but … Freo … that says it all.

Is the AFL's top four an aberration, or a sign of things to come?

Big problem in the NRL I take it.

Night time grand final has its supporters, but change isn't on the way yet

It’s not just fans who have to organise travel though, its umpires, tv, support staff, AFL staff, club staff, club players etc etc etc. The best solution would be to have it on a rotating schedule, ala the NFL.

His career ain’t over yet.

Jarryd Roughead suffers melanoma setback

Yes they do just come back. That’s why it’s called remission.

I seem to get moderated when the wind shifts direction. I’ve given up trying to figure out why, no one will explain it.

Who is GC’s vice captain? Who has been acting captain on the ground when Ablett was out injured for ~18 months? Gary isn’t perfect and not the greatest captain ever but he doesn’t seem to get much support … at all.

Gary Ablett was the wrong man for the Gold Coast Suns

Stating the bleeding obvious but I’d love to see that too.

I didn’t want to be but I don’t feel like being moderated … yet again.

Doubt there was a 17-1 umpire last week.

Is the AFL's top four an aberration, or a sign of things to come?

In any sight, the decision was wrong. The downed player was already receiving all the care he could get, he was denied nothing. Play was over 100m away. There was no danger to the player or medical staff attending him. Play does not need to be stopped for a stretcher to come on.

Don’t worry, no way Saints win 11 more either.

That’s a pretty douchy thing to say

2016 AFL season: Round 9 preview

The question remains, what if Buddy gets hurt or misses because of other reasons or simply falls out of form? I don’t have the answer, but when Buddy is involved is such a disproportionate part of Sydney’s scoring it is a legit query.

I remember having the same arguments about Geelong a couple years ago. Turned out I was wrong, when it came time for Geelong to suddenly flip the switch and kick it up a gear, it didn’t happen. Turned out what I saw as ‘waiting for the right time’ were year ending flaws. Will North go differently? Possibly, but equally, possibly not.

That umpire was 100% wrong for stopping the game though.
As for losing the Richmond game Sydney have no one to blame but themselves. Could have chipped it sideways to Buddy with 90sec left and iced the game. Poor decision making cost them.

The point I was making is the Cats could only manage 65 rotation in the game against WCE, then went to Adelaide on a 6 day break and played a man short most of the game. The cumulative effect of almost a third less rotations and 6 day break added to a 3 man bench for most of the game (and being down their number one defender against what was considered by many to be one of the best and deepest forward lines in the comp) is worth noting.

Sure, you keep telling yourself that.

How the fortunes of the Suns and Giants have changed over the years

Geelong defeated WCE two weeks ago with only two men on the bench for 50% (McCarthy rolled ankle and Cockatoo knee) of the game and three on the bench for 90% (Cockatoo came back midway through third quarter) of the game, on a six day break they travelled to Adelaide and beat the Crows again with only three on the bench for 90% (Lonergan concussed) of the game.

For the first 6 weeks of the season Geelong has been rotating players in and out of the side, resting them because they simply have too many in form players that need to play (and still haven’t found room for GHS despite averaging close to 30 disposals and 8 clearances a game in the VFL). Vardy has hardly played. Clark has yet to play (if he makes it back). Scooter has yet to play. Cockatoo is out 6-8 weeks, Kolodashnij will miss a few more weeks, Thurlow is out for the year. This Geelong side is deeper than any of the 2007, ’09 or ’11 Premiership sides.
