This is the most ridiculous argument I’ve seen. Harris has opened in over 150 first class matches in Australia and England and made 27 hundreds in that position. Remembering OPENING is the hardest position to bat. How many times has Maxwell opened? And when was the last time Maxwell played a red ball game?

Your quote “ Harris can always make runs on flat tracks, but rarely if ever makes runs when the ball’s doing a bit.” Can be proven wrong so many times — a minefield of a wicket at the MCG test v England comes to mind where Harris made more runs than any Aus / Eng batter, a spicy Perth Stadium wicket against India where he made 70 & 20 (more than Head, Khawaja, Marsh) and hes made thousands of runs (and hundreds) in England where the ball does plenty. Just because you don’t like the fella doesn’t mean you completely make up something to suit a narrative.

At least Harris went and did something about the 2019 ashes and that’s sign up for county cricket for 3 years to improve his game which he has done and is now averaging around 50 over 3 seasons
And everyone gets hung up on his fielding from what I can remember he dropped 1 catch which numerous players do every game and have done this entire series with stokes

Christy your dislike for Harris is reflected in this article and lacks absolute credibility. Harris has knocked the door down Year after year as an opener in shield and county cricket. You bring up first class averages but Harris averages MORE than renshaw in first class cricket. In fact Renshaw was dropped from his state side when Harris is one of the best performers and first picked in his state side. Renshaw may be picked for India but that will be as a backup middle order bat. Harris is the first cab off the rank as an opener. Asking him to knock the door down with runs seems to me like you haven’t been paying attention to state or county cricket and you just don’t like the fellow to be honest.

Is your dislike for him that much that you forget to include his match winning innings on Boxing Day making more than any Australian or English batsman ? And then making more than Warner in the scg test but was dropped and Warner went on to score 0 and 0 in Tasmania ? Or how Harris averaged 29.83 as an opener and smith averaged 30 for the series?
And how Harris was picked not just as the incumbent in the 2021 ashes but for his form in England and Australia — he made 3 hundreds in Div 1 and 1 50 county cricket that year and the previous shield seasons averaged 63, 49 and 70 for Victoria.
