No. The first RL test between roos and kiwis saw 11-10 to the kiwis in 1908. Its been competitive since ages ago

Kiwis pip Kangaroos 26-24 in Test thriller

Good point re super rugby. Without it aus rugby is in trouble from all angles

Kiwis pip Kangaroos 26-24 in Test thriller

Hard to break the mould but Rugby League in NZ schools are making inroads. The Auckland Schools comp is now streamed live and the number of schools competing are growing nationwide.

The reality here in Auckland at least is that there are a ton of rugby league kids going over to play in the queensland and nsw comps because there is limited opportunity here in NZ with only the Warriors. Lots of examples of these products in last weeks test.

Emric, looks to me you are constantly deriding the warriors, referring to tv ratings to highlight rugby unions popularity in nz and suggesting league is for simpletons being the antagonist everytime

Warriors upset Broncos

your being a tad harsh there emric. top of the table storm are no mugs and the warriors have strung together a couple of encouraging performances.

Actually what the NRL needs is a southern NZ team..cue owen glen et al.

Warriors nearly calm Storm again

Can the Kiwis ever match the Kangaroos?

The Kiwis are on the right path to matching the Kangaroos and we could see that last night. The NZRL are really trying to invest and grow the game and by the looks they are getting results. Registered numbers were at a low point circa 2008 of 17,000 odd. With the SPARC investment this has trended upwards:-
2009 – 22,000
2010 – 25,000
2011 – 33,500

Can the Kiwis ever match the Kangaroos?

They sold 3000 tickets at a 60% discount so they effectively lose out on 1800 full paying patrons. NZRL could play games at say Wellington or Dunedin and make a net profit because it would cost less to hire the stadium.

Passion should keep mid-season Anzac Test alive

To give the test justice it needs to be stand alone. It has been ridiculous in the past having players back up the same weekend. It cheapens the game which, from a kiwi perspective, is hugely important. Should be fixed annually on the calender alternating between NZ and OZ, giving places like Dunedin and Christchurch a go.

Passion should keep mid-season Anzac Test alive

Your average NRL game with non-kiwi teams playing rates slightly less your average Super 15 game with non-kiwi teams. Take out the FTA ratings for the blues and the warriors rate alot closer – not bad for one kiwi team only playing.

Can the Kiwis ever match the Kangaroos?

The fact that the warriors are not shown live on FTA channel is a major disadvantage.

NZ rugby community 100 percent behind the Warriors

“You will never get rugby writers now writing disparagingly about rugby league as they/we (for I was one of the guilty men) used to about a decade or so ago.”
How about this piece

”… it is also comeuppance for a sport that has become morally and ethically bereft. Rugby, while far from being squeaky clean these days, does at least try to adhere to core values of honesty, humility, respect, tolerance and compassion.”

Wild, sweeping generalisations from leading NZ Herald Rugby reporter Gregor Paul with an obvious chip on his shoulder…suffice to say response from the public were not in support of his views. Cuts both ways.

NZ rugby community 100 percent behind the Warriors

Jeez this is crap….”is effectively asking league to come in and takeover”…Rugby League has been here for a hundred years!!…”players of the quality of Sonny Bill Williams and Benji Marshall, stolen from under the sleepy nose of the NZRU”…Players love to play the game and fans love to watch it, get over it.

League will not be taking over Union, there is enough kiwi talent and support for both.

NZRU invites rugby league to takeover

277000 odd people watched the warriors on TV, not including the thousands of people at bars.

New Zealand the true kings of rugby league

im not so sure about whether there is a problem with securing a stadium full of frenetic fans, the issue is whether there is the services to support the game in akld at the same time as the rwc opener

Manly vs Storm Grand Final is a certainty. Or is it?

I am talking about the ratings for League and Union in NZ – that being the NRL and ITM.

If we were talking about Feb – June? we would be comparing Super 12 for Union. If were talking footbal we would be comparing with A-League

NRL, A-League should expand in New Zealand

Rugby in NZ already is on free to air on Prime

NRL, A-League should expand in New Zealand

Simply just showing the ratings for the respective premiere competitions for Rugby League and Rugby Union at this time of the year.

NRL, A-League should expand in New Zealand

Thats a smart move from Cronulla and Taupo. The sharks club will see much needed, gauranteed revenue and Taupo will target primarily the travelling warriors fans, plus Sharks supporters. Its not about promoting the Rugby League code in Taupo, its about creating a win-win scenario, you cant begrudge them of that.

Hers some more examples of Australian cultural expansion into NZ:- Home and Away & Neighbours. Super Rugby and the ANZ chamionship have Australian teams, are the invading as well?

WRT Rugby League, there are a hundred kiwis kids trying to carve out a professional career in the NRL / Toyota cup etc..another NZ would keep some of them home.

NRL, A-League should expand in New Zealand

I just dont buy for one second the ‘Australian owned media influence what we watch on NZ TV’ line.

If this was the case, wouldn’t they be trying to ‘force feed’ AFL down our throats? as it is the most popular football code everywhere but NSW & QLD?

NRL, A-League should expand in New Zealand

”…Basically the New Zealand population is being force fed a steady diet on Australian League …” I would suggest the reason Rugby League is covered in the media to the extent that it reflects the degree of interest of the people subscribing to it

NRL, A-League should expand in New Zealand

not sure if your joking or or dont watch TV but I heard (from a radio commentator) that Vatuvei is the second most reported person on NZ TV sports news, behind of All Black captain McCaw

NRL, A-League should expand in New Zealand
