The only problem is that India will get through probably 110 overs if they had to bowl the full day’s worth, what with Jadeja being able to get through overs at around 90 seconds each…

And when has that worked out well? Last time around, he scored 4 centuries. The summer before that, Broad was the only England player besides Stokes to stand up and be counted…

India vs Australia Highlights: Third Test, cricket live scores, blog – Day 4

The last Test wasn’t closer than the scorecard suggested. Our (the Indian) batsmen looked like they had simply forgotten to bat, and SoK was twice as good as our spinners combined.

Rahane really did look dreadful out there. Just piled pressure upon himself by not rotating the strike enough with Rahul and now they’re both out. India staring down the barrel of a big first-innings deficit now.

In other words, Australia need a Dinesh Chandimal…

Great to see young Renshaw back. Not least, as an Indian fan, because Ashwin has a leftie to bowl to. And, as I write, what a tame, tame dismissal for Smith. Collapse imminent.

It’s Allan Border; his response to Dean Jones complaining about the heat in the 2nd Tied Test in Madras in ’86 pretty much says it all.

Ah, thanks for clarifying!

I can’t remember the precise rules for this, but because he went out due to an internal problem and not an external one (getting hit, breaking or tearing something, etc.) he may need to wait a while. Someone with a better knowledge of the rule book should clarify this point!

Virtually zero. 36 degrees Celsius and sunny every single day, according to a quick Google search.

I really can’t be bothered replying directly to your contempt-laced queries. I am merely confident that the pitch will turn out to be a good cricket wicket.

As an aside, why is it that the Australians whinge far more about pitch conditions in India than others? (And I have evidence for this, having followed the comment threads on UK, NZ and SA sports sites in the past series) It’s not a very good reputation as sports fans that we’ve accrued as a result of this.

Five things Australia must do in India, right from the start

Don’t think any of the pitches will be dustbowls, the ‘look’ of the Pune wicket notwithstanding. Australia have gone over there at just the time when the weather is hotting up again and so it’s natural to expect that the pitches are drier than those earlier in the summer. In other words, you can keep telling yourself that the presence of drier pitches is due to fear of Australia as a lullaby to help you sleep at night, but there are good non-‘alternative facts’ reasons for the pitches being on the drier side.

This makeup of this squad only goes to show that the selectors didn’t bother to watch the England-India highlights reel. Mitchell Marsh? England lost 4-0 partly due to relying too much on all-rounders. Steve O’Keefe? You can’t play old spinners who can’t actually spin the ball much in India – they get destroyed (cf. Gareth Batty). Ashton Agar? Picking young left-arm orthodox spinners on an India tour just because they’re handy with the bat is not a good idea (cf. Zafar Ansari). Trying to use someone like Glenn Maxwell as a proper off-spinning all-rounder rather than a specialist batsman is also a terrible idea (cf. Moeen Ali).

I look forward to my beloved Team India win this one 4-0, because I just can’t see Australia winning a game with this squad. Pity – the last two series have been rather one-sided and was looking forward to a closely-contested one.

Australian Test squad for India: The Roar's reaction

It’s not entirely Lyon’s fault that Smith doesn’t allow him spells of decent length, with a moderately old ball, anywhere near often enough.

Definite shades of Akram vs Lamb in the 92 WC final in that dismissal.

Hahaha he used to thrash India in Australia every time they toured but was famously rubbish in India; the only time he scored a hundred was the last time he toured (in 2010 I believe)
