I think you’d have to ditch the draft and keep the salary cap. You could let clubs develop there own players maybe bring back zoning.

Carlton are this century's saddest football club and it's not even close

I agree Macca. It’s something I just don’t understand. He was roundly considered one of the best players in the league up until the end of last year. Now all of a sudden he’s not? Its ridiculous. I get really annoyed to hear all the commentators go on like it’s always been the case. I think he’s a champion player and a champion bloke and a walk in start at any club.

Everyone is clever in hindsight

My profile as been on 54 coments now for a few days. I’ve been waiting for a beauty to break that magic number. Here’s a link to clip from the greatest game of last century. Doggies v Bombers, 2000. Enjoy Chuck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDhR6Z8XeYU

After a third of the season, each AFL team reviewed

Yeah, my understanding was it was the way we played. I used to stand with my dad at the Western Oval and hear everyone yell ‘carn scraggers!’

Five talking points from AFL Round 8

Also, Collingwood changed their guernsies to look more like Port Adelaide. Remember when they wore all white with three black stripes. Now they’re all black with three white stripes. It’s all a bit much. Who cares? Let Them both wear black and white. And maybe Collingwood gets precedence when they play each other.
It’s not like Geelong are arguing that they should be the only blue and white team.

And I guess we chose right. Which is what the article was all about. Even if you discard those three father son picks we look a lot better. Honestly I wasn’t having a go at Carlton. I like Carlton and I don’t like seeing them in this situation. I use the Dogs’ draft because that’s all I know. I probs could have used any number of other clubs.

Carlton’s decade of draft disaster

We would have drafted them anyway.

Carlton’s decade of draft disaster

Nice article. I love draft analysis.
For a comparison, here is a list of Bulldog draftees still playing from the same period.
Toby McLean,
Bailey Dale,
Caleb Daniel,
Marcus Bontempelli,
Jake Stringer,
Jack Macrae,
Lachlan Hunter,
Jason Johanison,
Luke Dalhuis,
Lin Jong,
Mitch Wallis,
Tom Liberatore,
You could add to that list retirees Liam Picken and Clay Smith and it’s a pretty good haul I reckon.

An open letter to the Collingwood board and President Mark Korda

I don’t think that is the case with Collingwood. Didn’t Eddie change it so that the members no longer choose the board? I could be wrong though.

I think the concussion sub makes perfect sense. As for the medical sub, I suppose one way to counter it being abused is to gift the opposition a sub every time a club uses it.

The AFL's rushed new rules deserve a rushed reaction

The Herald Sun and News.com are the same company.

Shut up and play footy: Why do we take down players who stand against racism?

They will certainly be interesting. Can’t wait.

Trade and draft review: Blues go all in

My family would never forgive me.

Trade and draft review: Blues go all in

I love these club by club series of articles that The Roar do so well, and this is no exception. My only criticism is that I always have to wait so long a Bulldogs article ????
Any chance of some reverse alphabetical order or something?

Trade and draft review: Blues go all in

I don’t think it’s about making other clubs pay a higher price. I think it’s because of the unlikely chance that for whatever reason the Dogs don’t match a bid. Unlikely in this case but possible generally speaking.

AFL draft 2020: The facts on top 10 picks and the latest phantom rumours

If one of them kicks a winning goal in the granny like Boyd did? Then yes.

Interesting that Callan Ward and Jarod Harrow are both ex Bulldogs players.

AFL top 100: GWS Giants' games and goals

Yeah I am. It’s within certain parameters though.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

Yeah, good point, I hadn’t thought of that. They change the dimensions of grounds in the premier league as well to suit their individual squads.

Also, now I think about it. Your argument also suggests that interstate clubs have a much greater advantage throughout the home and away because they have a home ground that no other club ever plays at. That means that Melbourne teams are bloody lucky just to make the grand final.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

That argument would require Hawthorn to continually get priority picks every year even after they had won a flag. Also I don’t think I’m being one eyed. I just don’t think that argument about the home ground stacks up. It’s the support base at the ground that is more important than the actual ground. Each team has the same tickets allocated as far as I’m aware. Also the Gabba is such a similar ground to the MCG. In fact it’s almost the same size.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

I feel like whenever anybody mentions threepeats that it’s important to remember that Hawthorn and Brisbane’s were very different. Hawthorn managed it under the salary cap. Brisbane were given an extra allowance that amounted essentially to two extra Michael Vosses. Hardly the same achievement.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

Not your point I know Boo, but I reckon if you had either Ablett or Modra, or even Kapoer in your forward line the coach would be getting everyone to bomb long into the forward line. Just get it on their and the forward would do the rest and if he didn’t, well done it, the pockets would rove and snap. All pretty exciting if you ask me.

Seven rule changes the AFL should consider

And increased fatigue means less skillful play and I’m guessing more missed shots on goal
