Also: “the Force are missing Test front-rowers Tom Robertson, Folau Fainga’a and Izack Rodda“.

Not sure when Rodda last played front row. Wiki reckons he may have played prop as a junior when playing league.

'Outclassed in every facet': Crusaders belt Western Force in reality check as set-piece dismantled

Unlikely is optimistic.

'Put a shoulder through someone': Debutant's wild ride from Shute Shield to No.10 vs Crusaders

Thrush and Holmes are Academy coaches. Last I heard Kahui was coaching Bayswater. Longbottom came back as he’s a Perth boy.
Kearney, I’ll give you. He appears to be playing Gaelic Football now!

Prodigal's return: O'Connor eyes remarkable move back to Force as Wallabies young gun stays put at Reds

Originally, to allow the Waratahs to have an entire squad of Wallabies and still meet the salary cap. 😛
Although things have changed with respect to the relative strengths of the sides in the last 10 years.

Revealed: Star Wallaby could be forced to leave Brumbies as Rugby Australia's belt tightens

A longer season would certainly help, but also year-round access to the same facilities as the men’s Super Rugby sides (skills and fitness coaches, gyms, dieticians, etc).

A little bit of support to motivated amateur players goes a heck of a long way to helping maintain their standards (as anyone who saw the improvement in club players who got a chance in the NRC can testify!)

But 5 games a year isn’t enough to really improve players; good players will move to league or AFLW where at least they get 9-10 games a year (still not really enough!)

Five rounds are just not enough for the Super W competition, but now it's time for the semi-finals

Four games against the Cheetahs! They’ll know each other very well after that.

The Force, Rebels, and Waratahs have six weeks to break losing habits with the finals still in reach

Yeah, two in South Africa, two in Perth, but I’ve not seen the home games opponent(s) confirmed.
The announcement said that they can’t play the September games at NiB because of the Women’s World Cup, but that finishes 20th August, and the last match at NiB is 3rd August, so that *shouldn’t* affect it.

The Force, Rebels, and Waratahs have six weeks to break losing habits with the finals still in reach

The Force have organised a trip to South Africa in August to play the Cheetahs (twice, I believe) and a couple of home games in September. Not sure who, but someone mentioned Montpellier (possibly because we share a sponsor!)

The HIA on Strachan was an independent doctor, not the Force medical team.

'Did they miss it or did they choose to miss it?': Force coach slams TMO, questions how Tah's hit missed

Well, so far this season the Force have had two yellow cards which have been upgraded to red by the TMO, which during the week have subsequently been downgraded back to yellow again. And now a hit which should have been a yellow with review to red (or even just a straight red) was missed.

People say that these things even themselves out over a season, but it doesn’t feel like it for some of us.

'Did they miss it or did they choose to miss it?': Force coach slams TMO, questions how Tah's hit missed

I think the first game of Sevens I watched was circa 1980.

Sevens was first introduced to the Olympics in 2016, and the UK qualified for the 2016 & 2020 games purely based on the English side. But “England” isn’t a country which competes at the Olympics, so the UK men’s and women’s squads at the Olympics contained players from both Scotland and Wales.

The competition for places at the 2024 Olympics is fiercer, so I can understand why the nations have decided to join up to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. (Covid has nothing to do with it, other than timing!)

I’m not sure what your issue is with England, Scotland, Wales (and, presumably Northern Ireland) competing separately for the Commonwealth Games and collectively for the Olympics is. This is what happens for every sport, as the Commonwealth Games and Olympics see the nations differently. It’s called politics! 😉

'It's hard not to be excited': Three-way battle to sign Sevens star ahead of Olympics

If it the system he’s currently in, then is it not more accurate to say that he’s being poached from the Australian Sevens side, rather than NSW?

'It's hard not to be excited': Three-way battle to sign Sevens star ahead of Olympics

Yes, but OO’s comment was: “If the Brumbies have so much local talent, why poach from NSW?
My response was pointing out that he’s not NSW local talent, he’s technically Qld local talent.
The truth is that as with any player they are a product of every club, school, academy, etc which they’ve been through; and as the standard of the Shute Shield is (probably) higher than club rugby in any other state capital (sorry Brisbane) most aspiring players will end up on the books of a Shute Shield side at some point. It doesn’t mean that all players are NSW products exclusively.
OO’s comment seemed to be implying that the Brumbies were poaching a NSW born-and-bred player, and that isn’t the case.

'It's hard not to be excited': Three-way battle to sign Sevens star ahead of Olympics

Yes, but to compete at the Commonwealth Games they probably just have to show up.

To compete at the Olympics they need to qualify, and that requires achieving a certain standard via the World Sevens Series. So they’ll need to compete in World Series events as the UK, not as individual countries.

You realise that Darby Lancaster was raised in Gladstone? That’d be Queensland.

'It's hard not to be excited': Three-way battle to sign Sevens star ahead of Olympics

As Rugby Sevens is now an Olympic sport, and at the Olympics they compete as the UK, I think they’d have to compete at the World Series as a combined UK team. Otherwise they’d not get any ranking points to qualify for the Olympics.

“An NPC won’t get them up to SR standard anytime soon.

The key mate is for coaches to step up and do what they are paid to do.”

But just as players struggle to manage the step-up between club rugby and SRP, so do the coaches. Re-starting the NRC (or some equivalent) gives not just the players a mid-level competition to learn and improve their skills, but also the coaches. I know that over here in WA the Spirit coaches were usually from the Force coaching team (the forwards coach usually, IIRC) but it also gave local club coaches the chance of exposure to a higher grade of rugby (and better players).

We don’t always know what coaches will be able to do with the players at their disposal until they are tested. Simply asking them to step up and do what they are paid to do is like throwing $1.6 million at an untested 19 year old. 😉

'Really stings': Walking wounded Rebels hammered by Barrett's Blues in statement second half shut out

That would be Will Skelton who made the European Cup Team of the Year last year?

Waratahs set to sign 203cm, 125kg giant as Australian rugby finally gets one over France

Charlie, your memory is incorrect. The Force received no salary cap dispensation when they were set up; you may be thinking of the Rebels, who were certainly given foreign player number exemptions.

Revealed: The 'sh--fest' that saw Reds gun join Force and the 'respect' element that surprised him

Well, that piece aged badly!

A wave of emotion will carry the Buffalo Bills to Super Bowl glory

More than one decent stadium in Perth.
The Force & Glory play at HBF Park (20,500 capacity) and it’s getting upgraded this year.
There’s the WACA (was 20,000 but getting downsized to only 10,000, but with much better facilities).
Fremantle Oval is getting an upgrade to both capacity and facilities, too.
And for indoor sports, Perth Arena seats 15,000, which makes it the 3rd biggest indoor venue in the country.

As of 2023, Sydney may have surpassed Melbourne in terms of its sporting stadiums

If the Wildcard matches go as expected, the Bills will also need to beat the Bengals next weekend, in a repeat of the match Damar collapsed in (although it would probably be played in Buffalo – although it should be a coin toss for home field if they do play each other!)

Simply getting through that match might be a trial for either side. I know Tyler Boyd (Bengals receiver) was somewhat of a mentor to Hamlin as Hamlin went through college, so it’s not just the Buffalo players who will be thinking of Damar in the playoffs.

A wave of emotion will carry the Buffalo Bills to Super Bowl glory

During the period 2017-2019 (so last three years of Cheika’s reign, not a high point in Australian rugby) we played 37 tests and scored 952 points (25.7 a game).

During the Wisemantel years (2020-2022) we played 34 tests and scored 765 points (22.5 a game).

Did he jump or was he pushed?

Wallabies' World Cup chances cop major blow as respected assistant coach resigns

This time around, however, everything is seeming to be falling into place for a team most recently known as a laughing stock.

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of the Cowboys being referred to as a laughing stock. In the last 20 years they’ve only had four losing seasons:
2020: 6-10, largely through injuries, especially to Dak Prescott.
2015: 4-12, largely through injuries, especially to Tony Romo.
2010: 6-10, largely through the disastrous coaching of Wade Phillips.
2004: 6-10, multiple reasons, including cutting their starting QB in pre-season and Jerry Jones’ meddling.

I know a number of teams who have been considered laughing stocks who would love to only have 4 losing seasons in the last 20 (including my Bengals!)

Are the stars finally aligning for the Dallas Cowboys?

Law 6 states: “The referee is the sole judge of fact and of law during a match.” You cannot have two referees – what if their interpretations differ?

I think what you actually want is more assistant refs; so either have two ARs on each touchline (eg, one ahead of the ball looking at the defense, the other looking at the breakdown/offsides) or have the TMO(s?) using the TV feed to flag up any incidents.
