South Africa were phenomenal in the world cup. Arguably the best side until they choked in the semi as is tradition.
And the Kiwis won the last WTC Final before us.
Things aren’t that bad. WI and Pakistan were both better in the test series than expected
Gabba goodwill quickly fading as 'embarrassing' Windies set woeful new record in Canberra capitulation
You guys are embarassing.
If you’re fine with this deciding a world cup final then you don’t watch cricket for the right reasons
'Get a grip': Broad fumes, cricket world erupts as Poms cop hugely controversial wicket in U19 World Cup
Agreed. That whole series was fantastic and Rawalpindi was one of the most amazing things I’ve seen
Their record speaks for itself and I hope they can get over their overrate penalties and make the WTC Final because they are arguably the best team in test world cricket atm.
Australia and India could not have won that Pakistan series 3-0 on those decks
Bazball won’t save Test cricket - but it’s time to give ‘whingeing Poms’ overdue credit for dramatic turnaround
What kind of an attitude is that mate?
No one is forcing anyone to do anything.
But when you have a country as great as ours, surely it’s in all our best interests to have an Australia Day that we can all get behind
'Choose a better date': Cummins wants Australia Day moved as CA chief sledged for 'bizarre' trainwreck interview
Smith scored the 2nd most test runs of any player worldwide in 2023, including centuries in the WTC Final and The Ashes
Would be a huge loss if he retired now
First-up failure: Smith falls cheaply in opening gambit as Windies show spirit to fight back from woeful start
Wasn’t that Hazlewood
'Technology curse': Pakistan director slams 'inconsistent' umpiring after contentious DRS call cruels hopes of famous win
He was yeah. I remember being at a Sheffield shield game in Sydney and seeing him sitting in the grandstand nearby with a big clipboard and thinking ‘this guy means business’ lol
'Technology curse': Pakistan director slams 'inconsistent' umpiring after contentious DRS call cruels hopes of famous win
The Cummins / McDonald era of this side is so much more clutch than the Paine / Langer era.
That’s the big difference for me. They just seem to be so calm and collected now. They back themselves to get it done in the big moments
'Technology curse': Pakistan director slams 'inconsistent' umpiring after contentious DRS call cruels hopes of famous win
Still, the atmosphere was great because it was played on a ground designed for cricket. And really, a good game with a good atmosphere is all a cricket fan could ever want. All the rest is for admin
I agree about the Golden Era though. It’s criminal that we never toured between 2016 and 2024. The greatest ever Kiwi side and it was a chance to make the Trans Tasman Rivalry a big thing in test cricket. And we never popped over the ditch once. In 8 years.
The people who were responsible for that had anything but the fans best interests in mind
Multi-format contests loom as better option for most opponents than only playing fait accompli Test series
No way. Don’t cheapen the test summer by making it count to some T20 series
Also, for all the talk about interest… Perth’s crowd was the highest ever Perth crowd against Pakistan. And the Boxing Day MCG crowd is predicted to be the highest Boxing Day crowd against Pakistan
Multi-format contests loom as better option for most opponents than only playing fait accompli Test series
People are really nailing Lisa Sthalekar on social media but I don’t think that’s fair
She was just trying to understand/explain how this could have happened, which is a good thing.
Don’t see why anyone needs to join the pile on. In fact I find it a bit gross
COMMENT: BBL Pom's disgraceful ump incident deserves bigger ban - and shame on Aussie icon for 'both-sidesing' it
Bazball has nothing to do with limited overs cricket
Can't beat an egg: No moral victories and barely any wins to speak of for England after Ashes Bazball hubris
Yeah I think if Warner’s critics knew he would score 164 on a deck where none of the other batsmen have got to 50… and yet were still calling for him to be dropped, there’s something wrong there
COMMENT: David Warner defied his critics - but he didn't prove them wrong
Carey definitely wasn’t one game. He’d had a bad run of form in ODIs
Also though, Inglis suited the role we needed more. Inglis had been excelling in a hitting role both domestically and for the T20 side, and that was a better balance for our team I think
'Wouldn't be summer without a headline': David Warner's classy response to Johnson sledge
If you’re selecting a certain part of a players career to make a point, 28 is actually not a shocking average for a run of bad form.
Bancroft, who could well deserve selection, had a test average of 26 in 10 matches. Nothing against the bloke, but maybe Johnson could have included that in his article
'Wouldn't be summer without a headline': David Warner's classy response to Johnson sledge
Yeah that really has been such a missed opportunity. The fact we never toured NZ in the 8 years they had their golden side that won the WTC is so baffling, such a shame
Was an opportunity for a really great rivalry
Do Australians love Test cricket or just watching the baggy green side win at home pretty much all the time?
Are you even sure he played the mental health card? Mitch wrote paragraphs of public personal attacks on people he once shared a Baggy Green with, and Bailey said ‘I hope he’s ok’
Not sure how you can make that out as Bailey being the bad guy here
‘Quite disgusting, childish, condescending’: Johnson blasts Bailey over mental health comment as Warner feud gets nastier
It genuinely is infuriating. Like you’ve gotta be the densest of all spuds to actually think this and all these regulars somehow are
Warner has literally been so careful to say ‘if I’m still getting picked’ and they all just ignore it. They’re either incredibly thick or just not nice people
Teflon Bailey: Johnson right about selectors being too close to players but Warner won’t be denied fairytale farewell
This website seems to just be Paul Sutton whinging about something every day, Don Freo, 13th man and Rowdy agreeing with him in the comments, repeated
Makes sense for Warner to still be picked as opener. Made a 200 in his second last innings in Australia and coming off great form in the world cup
George Bailey made some extremely brave and in the end, correct decisions at the world cup
We’ve just won the WTC and the World Cup in the last few months
Things are going well, despite what you guys want to believe
Teflon Bailey: Johnson right about selectors being too close to players but Warner won’t be denied fairytale farewell
Sure, but the whole narrative lately is that Warner ‘shouldnt be able to choose to get a farewell series’
He hasn’t. He’s just said, if he’s still being picked, he’ll retire at the end of this summer. Which is exactly what every player who was going to retire soon would say
It’s very clearly personal
'Bunnings would sell out of sandpaper': Bailey reacts after Johnson delivers brutal sledge over 'arrogant' Warner's farewell
Yeah. It’s absolutely bonkers.
He has said time and time again ‘if I am picked I would like to retire at the SCG’
I don’t see how anyone can represent that as being selfish and be comfortable with themselves. It’s like basic comprehensive has paved way
'Bunnings would sell out of sandpaper': Bailey reacts after Johnson delivers brutal sledge over 'arrogant' Warner's farewell
Not sure that’s what happened mate. But nice of you to congratulate McDonald and team on winning the World Cup and WTC this year despite being terrible coaches who are too lenient on the players
'Bunnings would sell out of sandpaper': Bailey reacts after Johnson delivers brutal sledge over 'arrogant' Warner's farewell
If it was obvious to you that Warner should not be in the test team, and then Warner went on to play 109 test matches at an average of 45 in a bowler friendly era, then I think you should re-evaluate your meaning of obvious
The numbers suggest he was one of, if not the, dominant opening batsmen of his era in world cricket
'Bunnings would sell out of sandpaper': Bailey reacts after Johnson delivers brutal sledge over 'arrogant' Warner's farewell
Mitchell Johnson has really turned into a awful, vindictive person in the last couple of years. It’s sad
Also, the Warner retirement thing is straight up being portrayed incorrectly. Every single time, he has started with ‘if I am still getting picked’ I would like to finish at the SCG. He’s been so careful to do so.
And people with an agenda just want to see that as him being arrogant. I can’t believe we don’t see through that
'Bunnings would sell out of sandpaper': Bailey reacts after Johnson delivers brutal sledge over 'arrogant' Warner's farewell
Starc has given up 10 years of IPL contracts purely because he loves test cricket so much that he wants to focus on it. His test bowling has just got better and better too, he’s one the best strike bowlers in the world
If he’s not performing, sure, look for a new X factor. But he’s consistently put test cricket above everything and said he wants to continue for a long time and I think he should be picked for as long as he’s in the best XI
Why Starc should be first to make way if selectors opt to regenerate ageing Test team’s legendary bowling attack
