Dane, the whole point of a charge down is to block the ball for your advantage. More commonly seen successfully done in rugby where often tries are scored as a result. However you always run the risk of missing the ball and if done poorly taking out the kicker. In Graham’s case it was not only was a poor charge down he was lucky he didn’t break Reynolds leg. The charge down isn’t dead, just taking out a player dangerously in the act of kicking is and very much should be. I’m not a supporter of either of the teams involved but think the defence of what was clearly dangerous foul play is ridiculous.
Good Friday will be remembered for the death of The Chargedown
Can’t believe I watched that carp from the reds!

Stomping no where near the ball should be red full stop. It is no longer the 90s so no longer an innocuous tickle up. I’m not saying Canes didn’t deserve the win but Barrett should have seen red and miss the final for dangerous foul play.
