Revealed: RA's game-changing private equity takes shape - and why it's essential to centralisation push

Rugby doesn’t have rules it has laws. That is the issue. Rules are binary, yes or no.
Laws are open to interpretation.
Rugby is one of the few sports that has laws not rules.

'Game's out of control': Coaches, players, fans and refs are united by their hatred of the dumbest law in rugby

Paul,
Thanks for the article. It is important that we dont blame the refs. They have to deal with the laws and processes they are given.
I think there are 2 simple changes that would speed up the game with out major changes.
1. No stoppage for injuries, unless urgent medical attention is required, medicart must enter the field or the player is in danger of further injury (runover).
2. No stoppage for replacements. Why does the game have to be stopped for strategic replacements? Surely this doesnt need the ref to be involved. It could be managed by a match official with players entering the field behind the play.

Refereeing is ruining rugby

The SRU & NSWRU have a history of protecting the inner circle of Shute Shield Clubs at the expense of all other rugby clubs and the good of the game.

Penrith Rugby Club is just another victim. The rot started with the disbanding of 2nd division and an end to promotion and relegation.

Hornsby Rugby Club like Penrith was the victim of myopic administrators and self protecting club presidents. Hornsby Rugby with its own licensed club was an established club that had spent time in 1st and 2nd division. Postioned in the fast growing area of North West Sydney it provided a link to the even faster growing Central Coast.

Unfortunately it appears Penrith awaits the same fate. It is disgraceful that no one is held to accountant for these decisions.

Leahry,

I appreciate you taking the time to provide such a comprehensive answer.

There is so much you have said that I would like to drill down on. However, this isn’t the forum.
The challenge I see for CLA and let’s say a more context-based coaching, (Not ignoring your point on the need for instruction depending on where the player is on the development continuum.) How do we move the concept from Academia to the laymen (that’s me) and how do we get coaches to implement it.

How Australian rugby can improve coaching

Leahry,

I did a few workshops with Mick Byrne and have a tremendous amount of respect for him.
I would have thought his approach is the opposite of CLA.
Mick was prescriptive, focused on specific pattern movement and practice skill in isolation.
e.g His Punch pass drill.
My understanding of CLA (please correct me if I am wrong) that skill execution is a dynamic system and individuals will perform these skills differently due many factors such as Physic, Experience etc. That skill execution will evolve from playing games, not from instruction.

Damon Emtage was before his time as a coach. He was a devotee of Pier Villepreux , which leaned towards CLA. That is providing context and replicating game situations to develop common decision making.

I honestly think that teaching coaches about CLA and how to coach is the quickest way to improve our game. Especially for player enjoyment at a junior level.

You only have to look at the success IRFU and Nick Winkelman are having.

Keep up the great work

How Australian rugby can improve coaching

Leahry,
Fantastic article. I wish I had more time to respond in detail.
There are a number of young coaches embracing a “Contraints Led approach” to coaching.
In very simple term utilising small-sided games to develop skills and decision making.
By manipulating the constraints of a game e.g the rules, numbers of players, pitch etc, The coach can provide context, control intensity etc.
Not surprisingly this approach has been adopted by NZ, Ireland and even Eddie Jones is an advocate.
In Australia it is near impossible to get any buy in.
Again Sorry I don’t have time to write more. Perhaps this link will give a better outline.

Piru, there is no systemic racism in Australia. Only Maoris hating the pakeha and Moriori.

Wallabies unveil new Indigenous jersey but want to attract more First Nations players

I didn’t say my facts were wrong or others were right. I wanted to know who is the judge of what facts are correct. Isn’t that why we debate, to distinguish what is fact?

You may want to revise your history. Russians were slaughter in the millions to suppress free speech by their own tyrannical dictatorship. They weren’t fighting for freedom. The majority were slaughtered because it was assumed they belonged to a certain class.

I think it is great idea.
There is some difficulty with a lot of different dialects.
However that should not be an excuse not to do it.

What does the ethnicity or race of the author have to do with anything? Ironically, Kerry Mills the author of the research you provided a link is also Pakeha. Do you dismiss her position based on race?
Racism is Racism and it has no place in Australia. We should all stand united against it.

So you are denying the genocide of the Moriori or you think It is funny?

Perhaps the Wallabies should take a knee in front of the Haka in support of NZ first people the Moriori.

It certainly is a shame that we learn little about our Indigenous history.
In our schools there is little taught about Australian history in general.

I think you will find most of the PI boys are against taking a knee. The BLM movement is anti-religion in particular Christianity and Judaism.

Standing up against racism and inequality should be lauded.

Supporting BLM is the issue. It is a politically motivated group funded by ANTIFA and others.
Tacking a knee in support of anarchist who destroy property, loot, burn religious sites and relics is naive at best.
