@Gray-Hand Ask the English who just got thrashed in the Ashes if they think they should have had some tour matches – I think the majority of them would say yes.

Aussie stars should have pay docked after Pakistan tour snub that 'fails the pub test'

Pearce was actually winding into the game before he was injured (by a shoulder charge?). He started off pretty rustily, but improved as the game went on.

The Liebke Ratings: State of Origin 1

Always nice to read articles like this – after the event.

Why Queensland will win State of Origin Game 1

I would say that the skill level was several rungs below the fully professional players, but that it entirely understandable. It will improve as they get more and mroe game time and practice.

However, the endeavour and commitment shown was on a par with the men. That’s what made it exciting and worth watching.

Love that NSW conspiracy conspiracy.

The Liebke Ratings: Australia vs South Africa Third Test

Sarcasm is best used sparingly, rather than by the truckload. Your (valid, I think) points get lost in the deluge – although, it is hard to know exactly what your point/s is/are.

Why Michael Cheika is the worst thing that happened ever

There are many inequities in the AFL – the uneven draw being the main one.

The AFL are responsible for them all. If it wasn’t for their desire to see a team survive and thrive where there wasn’t fertile soil, such a rich ferliliser (COLA) would not be needed.

Swans have done what they should be doing – working within the rules to achieve the best possible results. Good luck to them.

All of the Kiwi commentators were telling themselves, and each other, that it was going down legside/it didn’t pitch in line. Over and over again. Wishful thinking on their behalf, maybe, but they had enough doubt – we should given Martinesz the benefit of this doubt

Suck it up boys: Australia's DRS blow-up was unacceptable

I agree with all of your post, Sean, with the exception of the first four words.

The decision was NOT fine. It was a poor following of process by Thirdie, rushed and hastily concluded. We heard him say, during the process (paraphrased) “Looks like he didn’t hit that, he didn’t hit it, he didn’t hit it, ……….oh, maybe he hit that – Not Out!”.

He saw something that required further investigation – which IS his job – like RTS and another look at hotspot to be sure that the hot spot visible was not already there and/or it was not caused by the bat brushing his boot.

Process. Get the process right, and things will be fine.

Regardless, as you say, Aus behaved poorly in reaction to the decision.

You make valid points, but Marsh was chosen – to the dismay of many – purely as a fill in for Khawaja. UK is right to go, so Marsh’s job has been done, and done well.

Joe Burns may not have set the world on fire, but neither does he deserve to lose his place. Just as Marsh was, just as Hayden was, just as many, many successful Aus batsmen over the years have been, Burns must be given time to grow into his role, to adapt to test cricket, not cast aside like an afterthought.

It’s bad luck for Marsh, but he came into the team this time knowing that he was on borrowed time. If you had asked him “play two tests and get dropped again, or none at all?”, he would choose what did happen.
