Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to jump on the ‘Richmond are doomed’ train, but let’s not forget they weren’t only good last year, they’ve been great for the past 4 years. They’ve had to adapt every year and keep coming home with the goods. Definitely deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Six talking points from Round 4 of the AFL

Actually, I believe you’ve misinterpreted my post and your confusion and comment is a projection of something I’d rather not get into. 😂

It's time for Port Adelaide to break out the prison bars again

Unfortunately I don’t have a basement in my house. 🙁

I stand by my statement of it being the most famous strip in the land. Definitely the best strip.

I believe Collingwood has the right to contest another club using the magpie logo and mascot. They certainly do not have the right to control what colours another club will wear let alone it’s design.

Very much doubt you’re more famous, I’d settle down if I were you. I’d very much like for you to show some evidence supporting your claim. We can all go making wild statements with no real evidence.

It's time for Port Adelaide to break out the prison bars again

They have zero rights? They’ve played in the AFL wearing the prison bars outside of Heritage Rounds several times. Appears they do have a right to be wearing it? Time for you old folks to start looking forward to the future because when Port Adelaide are wearing the best and most famous strip in the land you’ll have to be the one building a bridge 🙂

Wasn’t aware you were head of the committee deciding what was the appropriate way for a football club to celebrate their milestones! It is worth mentioning that before the COVID situation started, they had already announced they were going to wear the first strip they ever used in 1870 as well as our more famous prison bars. How many times do we need to have excuses to wear the strip we want to wear? Glad that you ‘think’ I’d push for more, considering I just stated I would be content.

The first 32 years of the clubs existence we wore (I think) 9 different jumpers of different colours and patterns. For now almost 120 years PAFC have worn variations of the black and white prison bar design. What is more relevant to the history of the club? One of the first 9 random strips they wore in the 1800s, or the one strip they’ve worn for more than 30 SANFL premierships and over a century? Before you tell me to go watch the SANFL, it is about showing the club is an individual entity. We are no longer PAFC Power and PAFC Magpies, we are simply PAFC.

I’d be content with just having the two matches a year. I’d always want more, but I am purely speaking for myself.

It's time for Port Adelaide to break out the prison bars again

I definitely agree with you here. For me, I’d argue for all home games off the bat! But I’d take whatever I can get.

It's time for Port Adelaide to break out the prison bars again

Unfortunately this has begun to feel like talking to a brick wall. You are refusing to explore the idea of Terms and Conditions being looked at and edited. PAFC are going through official channels to get 2 games a year wearing our preferred strip. When it is successful what will you say?

Sorry but I feel like your question was answered in my previous response. I also don’t appreciate being accused of whinging. I am part of a discussion not a yelling match. I clearly stated the reasoning behind the decision. We did whatever we could to join the AFL. That agreement happened a long time ago, why can’t it be readdressed and edited? the AFL as a league doesn’t look like what it did in the mid-late 90s, neither do the PAFC or Collingwood FC.

As to why I am ‘whinging’ in 2021, I have been a PAFC supporter my whole life, I was born in 1997. I have been arguing for us to use the Prison Bars my whole adult life. I am very happy it’s gaining traction and media attention. It would bring a lot of us supporters a lot of joy.

It's time for Port Adelaide to break out the prison bars again

I, a supporter, did not agree to anything. The club did, those of who are no longer running the club. Times change and so can old agreements.

One thing I wish people would stop doing is assume we WANTED to change our guernsey. We were essentially forced to do it. What would you choose for your club in terms of financial gain? The answer is obvious.

Another assumption you have is that no one from 1997 onward cared about the change of colours and strip. Unfortunately you are mistaken. There have been people for the whole existence of the club that have preferred our old strip. And assuming no one cared previously, why does that discredit the hoards of people who care now?

It's time for Port Adelaide to break out the prison bars again

I see a lot of people asking what the significance of wearing the Prison Bar Guernsey against the Crows is. Stating that there was no Adelaide Crows in the SANFL to have a rivalry with. My personal take has a couple of angles.

The first angle is that it is irrelevant that there was no rivalry with the crows wearing the Prison Bars. The reasoning for this is that Port Adelaide want to wear the Prison Bars in front of an audience of people who can respect it and are part of it’s history. You won’t find more people that fit the bill or care about the strip outside of SA. It is a large part of South Australian footy and has been for over a century. Now that point would stand true if PAFC decided to wear the strip for just two individual home games a year not against the crows, but this leads to my next angle.

It seems that most people still commenting here understand the whole court room footy club story. AFC were in opposition to PAFC entering the AFL, well before the POWER or any of it’s mascots, or colours were considered. They were against the PORT MAGPIES, the Prison Bar team. AFC, outside of Collingwood due to recent history, are the biggest rivals to PAFC and the prison bars.

As a passionate supporter of the club, I would personally settle for no less than wearing the strip every home game. I don’t understand the politics behind changing strips permanently and what the necessary steps would be, but clubs have changed their home strips back and forth between designs in my life time without any hassle.

People keep saying that PAFC in the AFL have no history with the prison bars, conveniently ignoring the fact that we have worn it in the AFL every opportunity we get, it is obvious to anyone paying attention that the club and it’s supporters adore the jumper. Instead of applying history and context to the decision, can’t we just accept the fact that tens of thousands of members want the change.. If any other club had that much support to change strip it would likely happen.

Did reading all that offend you or something? What a dumb response.

I’d love to see Port Adelaide play Geelong in a Grand Final for the first time! Never happened before! 🙂

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Preliminary finals

Looking towards the future, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rozee or Butters won the Brownlow in their careers at some point.

Who led my Brownlow count after the second footy festival?

I’m happy regardless of where they choose. I am just excited to see the big game held outside of Victoria! Bias for me wants it at Adelaide Oval though! 😛

Who deserves to host the grand final? Ranking the contenders

I believe Ebert is being held back as a precautionary measure. I think I read yesterday that they’re just making sure he’s 100% before picking him again. Expect him to be in the 22 next week regardless of tonights result.

Geelong vs Port Adelaide: Friday night forecast

Yeah he was playing defence in the one and a half games he was playing well. I agree in putting him back there. But after a year and a half on the sidelines he’d be begging for a spot anywhere on the field and I think would be put in more than a 100% effort anywhere. He played almost his whole career as a forward. Must still have some great qualities in that position.

Port Adelaide's selection headaches heading into Round 9

Gawn will have a field day against any ruckman we put in that’s not named ‘Scott Lycett’. We will lose the game if we are getting smashed in center clearances again due to a ruckman providing first use to his team, and us needing to start our attack from D50.

Personally, I’d be incredibly happy to see Jack Watts come into the team again. You mention slotting him into Bonner’s position, but personally I could see him being picked to be Todd Marshals replacement at CHF.

Port Adelaide's selection headaches heading into Round 9

He has been solid for a couple of years at least. Finally starting to get the recognition he probably deserves.

Port Adelaide Player of the Week: Darcy Byrne-Jones

Jack Watts back at CHF perhaps? 😛

Final-quarter blitz sees Saints home against Port

Remember when we had Westhoff and Trengove rucking for us full time? Didn’t look good. We need a serious back up ruckman.

“I’d play Hayes before him now”

As much as I am disappointed in Ladhams right now, you’ve got to remember the selectors aren’t idiots (despite popular belief). I remember reading what the club was saying about Hayes last year, saying that he wasn’t being selected because he was no where near AFL standard (they were basically calling him rubbish). We are unfortunately going to need to deal with Ladhams until Lycett is fit and then it’s a straight swap.

I personally think that Gray shouldn’t be put in the midfield. Keep him up front. We have plenty of quality young players to plug into the midfield that do the same job we would want from Gray, that couldn’t do the same as Gray in the forward line (despite him being quiet on the weekend). However I do agree with your opinion on Rozee. I think he should either have a break for a week or be put into the midfield, or even Butters for that matter. Butters has got to be my favourite player this year.

I personally can’t rate Bonner low enough. I do not know why he has constantly got a spot on the starting 22. McKenzie is such an easy inclusion over Bonner. His kicking has been well below average and his situational awareness has evidently been horrible. Constantly caught out with the ball and has very little meaningful usage of it if he’s not brought to ground.

Provided injury doesn’t hold people back I think selection should be
IN: Lycett, McKenzie, Rockliff
OUT: Bonner, Ladhams, Westhoff

Final-quarter blitz sees Saints home against Port

At this point, every umpiring decision is decided by flipping a coin. I am not using this as an excuse for Port Adelaide losing either, there were plenty of missed calls and bad calls that went against St Kilda too. The umpires are directly contradicting their previous calls constantly. It makes it hard to enjoy the game when there is so much inconsistency.

Final-quarter blitz sees Saints home against Port

Port will lose to the Demons if Lycett doesn’t play. Port thrives on first use in the middle of the ground. Without an experienced ruckman we are having to start our attack from FB or CHB. Just not a viable strategy to win games with, as seen on the weekend against a good St Kilda team. That’s not to say we will definitely win if Lycett plays either. But it’s looking bloody grim if he’s still out injured.
