One bloke who I hope scores a truckload of runs this season is Joe Burns from QLD – Can bat that kid!
Should Bailey play in the Ashes?
True. Wouldn’t bother me though, he’s done his job!
STEVE TURNER: Roosters look like premiers to me
I am a Roosters fan, I’ll get it out there. The only side that I could see beating them is the Rabbitohs. The Storm are not the real deal this year. Apart from their three guns, they haven’t got the depth of talent like the Chooks and Bunnies. A Rabbitohs v Roosters GF would be sensational.
STEVE TURNER: Roosters look like premiers to me
Good call. Left handers in the middle order (Warner, Hughes, Khawaja) have proved they cannot handle swann. Bailey coming in at 5, behind Clarke and ahead of Smith and Haddin is a strong and experienced middle order. If he gets runs in opening Shield games then I’d throw him in.
Should Bailey play in the Ashes?
Yea, but he was mostly on his own for that one. The Footy Show was ten times as good when he used to be there.
My NRL Footy Show panel for 2014
Funnily I had this very argument with an English lad last night. After a fair few beers, we finally agreed that while 3-0 flattered England slightly, they deserved to win. But if you were to make a team of the series, I’d say that 5 Aussies would make the XI – Rogers, Clarke, Haddin, Harris and Siddle. 3-0 paints a bad picture for the Aussies, but it doesn’t do them justice. As for this Summer…….. 2-2 and England retain the urn.
With luck and improved DRS the Ashes could have been tied two-all
A Matt Johns Footy Show comeback would make my year, so that gets my tick of approval. In fact they all do, except for the call to replace Slater, who I actually don’t mind. He is the most articulate of the lot. I just really don’t want to see or hear from Gordon Tallis for at least a decade. He is the worst pundit in Australian Sport at the moment.

Yea agree, great analogy. Since leaving the Roosters Stuart’s coaching record is miserable, and I’m not sure the Raiders have done themselves any favors. Dunneman was well liked by senior Raiders, and Stuart and Brett Kimmorley (Raiders assistant) have a tainted relationship. He has got plenty of work ahead of him. And as for Parra, well, good luck to them…..
The Parramatta problems continue
Australia's pace options for Ashes
Johnson also deserves a look in. Left arm option, and has been bowling 90+ M/PH in the ODIs…
Ben Cutting must be in the mix for the first Ashes Test
Sounds like you already have had a few… If you offered some alternatives, and had a strong basis for an argument against Cuttsy then I would take you more seriously.
“How about trying to get the talented bowlers fit” – Sure, but the Aus doctors aren’t miracle workers. I’m sure declaring at 0/0 would be fantastic idea! Oh and yes, Clarke is an exceptional captain…
Ben Cutting must be in the mix for the first Ashes Test
He really is a class cricketer. If John Hastings and James Faulkner can get a gig then I don’t see why Cuttsy should be overlooked.

Ok. So if Harris, starc, pattinson, bird, cummins are all OUT for the Gabba – I’d love to hear who you think is next in line? Go on, I promise I won’t laugh…..
Ben Cutting must be in the mix for the first Ashes Test
Well said – Australian Shield has most definitely been ‘diluted’ by the Big Bash. Although, I do still see the SS as a nursery for future test batsmen…. Unfortunately, it just does not have the $$$$.
The future looks bright for Australian cricket
Cricket, particularly Test Cricket, goes in cycles. Bell, Pieterson, Anderson, Swann, Trott, Prior, Panesar are all the wrong side of 30. I can see that in 3-4 years England will drop to about number 4 in the world on the back of a string of retirements. And at the same time, the Australian side will be reaching its maturity. Just like Clarke is now, Cook will shoulder a ton of the work for his side.

Hartley = the best current state cricketer to NOT have a baggy green.
Who is Australia's next wicketkeeper?
But if this top 7 is for the Ashes in Australia this year. Silk, Neville both no chance.
Is Australian cricket moving forward?
Not sure what your first sentence means? haha. But in 5 years I doubt there will be Clarke/Watson. Silk definitely has potential. Right now the batting stocks are low, but in 5 years these kids will have cut their teeth in Shield cricket.
Is Australian cricket moving forward?
I would like to see Cowan have one more Test. He did not do his job at Trent Bridge, and he knows it. If he puts away those silly shots then there may be some runs on offer for him. I would have reservations about throwing in Khawaja at number 3 at Lord’s. BUT… one more failure and it’s curtains for Cowan.
We must stick steady with steady Eddy
You cannot drop Agar. Simple. Now, with a four day turnaround I would rest Starc for Ryan Harris.
ASHES: Australia's nail-biting loss - how can we win?
The light is at the end of the tunnel for Australia. Watson/Clarke both have 3/4 years left, which will be plenty of time to pave the way for the youngsters.
Aussies in 5 years (minus Clarke/Watson) may look something like this:
1. Khawaja (31)
2. Hughes (29)
3. Maddinson (26)
4. Burns (28)
5. Smith (29)
6. M. Marsh (26)
7. Wade (30)
8. Agar (24)
9. Starc (28)
10. Pattinson (28)
11. Cummins (25)
By that stage, Pattinson/Starc would be well on their way to 200 Test wickets. Looks promising.
Is Australian cricket moving forward?
Very well said sheek. TEST cricket beats all.
SPIRO: Agar emerges as a star of Australian cricket
Unbelievable knock. But let’s hope he stays grounded. Future looks good: Agar, Marsh, Hughes – and can anyone tell me when Pat Cummins will be seen again?
SPIRO: Agar emerges as a star of Australian cricket
One guy you have overlooked is Queensland’s Joe Burns. Averages nearly 40 in FC cricket, and looks very promising. He hasn’t enjoyed the best of times playing for Leicester, but if he gets big Shield runs early on then he should be considered.
