Is it Clyne or Cheeks that appears closest to a Teresa May ?

Either way demonstrates quite the dire sitation

Cheika survives Rugby Australia review - for now

Sack Cheeks & Grey … that’s the simple part, appoint golden boots Larkham with consultation from White. then if Larkham fails miserably with his player relationship after RWC, sack him too.

There’s some serious cultural issues where AAC & KB can break rules they know all too well from numerous other tours regardless of the seriousness, not exactly leading by example.

A simple fact that Phipps is on the leadership team is clearly an example that even that group is a mess … without being part of the changing room, training field activities; several embarrassing incidents and lack of form for his place is evidence enough.

Cheika survives Rugby Australia review - for now

Are any of the top tier nations being asked to play 2 games of such magnitude within 5 days, perhaps not. Being asked to play the hosts in the opening game, followed by the Wallabies that close will take it’s toll on Fiji.
Yes they are best placed than any other world cup with good coaching, game plays and strategies and the implementation of what’s being asked by players plying their trade in Europe as well as the Super XV … Fiji should be great shape.

But to play two of the bookies favourites within 5 days will mean an extremly tough week that will take some recovery before the other two games. I don’t see them fairing well, the Wallabies and welsh will take advantage of a shortness of depth.

How to beat Fiji? Bore them to death

Just to add a couple more considerations, the help that Burgess has to hand is none other than Andy Farrell who did a fair bit of defensive work with the backline. Then there’s Mike Catt, a rather successful centre and a RWC winner to boot. Brad Barritt is an incredible defensive captain and would test Big Burg in training and bring out the weaknesses … so there’s only one excuse left which is the experience.

George’s old man gave him a run at 6 and the tries he ended up scoring for Bath were from great lines in support play, rather like a centre. So he’s had a good competitive run in different shirts and has a pretty good big match temperamant … I for one am looking forward to seeing him against Fiji and then impacting against the other challenges of the pool.

He’ll be pretty much ready to go if & when the knockout stages start … as will the rest of the group with those nations.

Burgess' selection is a stroke of genius

Surely it depends on the bigger picture game plan … a lineout at front, with maybe a prop at the back to take the 9s pass into the oppo back row ties them in and allows a pop to carriers into the half or midfield, if that’s where you want to attack the opposition. Back ball can go straight to the midifeld to tie up the centres & leave foward carrying options back from where it came …

NZ would have a different plan against Aus due to the venue as well Chieka’s vast changes the following week but the restart options should always be aligned to the game plan. NZ at Eden Park where the wind can swirl a bit will always be different to other grounds.

Intl teams should always bank on winning their own ball whereever the line out and should always employ a line out caller of that specialisation. Parling’s selection in the Lions of 2013 was based on his line out dominance and astute knowledge of the skillset.

Gone are days of having a 2 and 4 jumper with so many options available and the fact that it’s a fundamental restart play that can be worked on ad nauseum

Pocock is an option for both Brumbies and Australia, but Hooper at two could take a line out beneath the front jumper …

Why just winning lineout ball isn't enough

Warm up games are frustrating as there’s so many agenda’s behind it all … but at least there’s a flurry of squad annoucements to keep us going especially Englands Thursday lunchtime (Friaday AM) … Does Sam Burgess make the cut, will Cip’s squeeze in and all those discussions laid to rest.

24 days to go: The Roar counts down to the Rugby World Cup

I would suggest since the ELV’s the back row has had to change. The strategies of the first hit up in midfield means the flankers can’t get there in time – so they wait for the poaching opportunity post tackle or even head to the other side for the less structured second breakdown.

Hookers haven’t changed, they trained with the back row when i was playing, they were in our group for the Hennie Muller runs !!!

Some rugby positions have evolved
