Covered by who ?, Zach’s comment about you was spot on, you clearly have little idea about the history of our indigenous football code.

I am not from Victoria, but it’s not to hard to see that Melbourne and by default Victoria is the sporting capital/state of Australia, dont know how that makes them very introverted ?.

Could Melbourne host another Olympic Games?

Morton Bay figs ?.

$2.8 billion of infrastructure promised in World Cup bid

This theory may be right, but the bulk of the gold miners were actually people from the UK and Ireland.

WA footy was boosted in a big way from gold miners, gold miners who played the native game learnt on the gold fields of Victoria, same as NZ, QLD and South Africa where Australian footy comps grew and either became the dominant code or died for what ever reason.

Could Melbourne host another Olympic Games?

I agree with Zach’s comment in regards Kim Harts statement that AFL is just really Gaelic footy but IMO i think Australian rules football did take some ideas from the Irish.

The gold rush in Victoria attracted many different people from around the globe including obviously Irish in the 1850’s

As well as using Marn grook, i believe that Irish football as well as some rugby ideas were the templates for our game.

Whether the game was codified at the time does not mean that the game did not exist, i am betting that football games on the goldfields between Australian, English, Irish and Scottish and whoever else sought common ground and rules , and in effect these games were the forunner to Australian football.

(just a theory mind you )

Now i know many people dont subsribe to the Tom Wills/Marn Grook theory but i do, if you look at his history it must have played a part in his sporting development.

Could Melbourne host another Olympic Games?

I can see it’s a dissapointment, but the reality is the FFA is to blame and the years of inept admin on their part.

There is no doubt that soccer will gain, but not as much as they thought.

$2.8 billion of infrastructure promised in World Cup bid

AFL cronies, who are these cronies, name and shame Ian.

It’s all ALF’s fault i reckon.

Huge conspiracy.

Televised AFL is now impossible to watch

Subiaco has been a football ground (AFL) for over a hundred years, why would they change it permanently to a soccer ground, the AFL is giving THEIR grounds up.

How is Perth Glory who average around 9,000 people going to fill it up and pay for it.

Reality for soccer fans in this country, if you want a world cup build up your own stadiums over 150 years then hold a WC.

BTW if you keep calling the AFL ALF then perhaps you are on the wrong site !!.

Also as mentioned Subi will be upgraded whether we get the WC or not.

$2.8 billion of infrastructure promised in World Cup bid

Why would it be a free kick to to AFL, Subiaco will be redeveloped whether their is a world cup or not , Both AFL teams have membership waiting lists and are the only teams in Perth capable of coming anywhere near filling 60.000 seats.

Basically Subiaco will be rebuilt for a couple of soccer matches and then transformed back to a oval, so the Government can recoup its money, the WC will not pay it off.

Another example of the AFL paying for other codes

$2.8 billion of infrastructure promised in World Cup bid

Canberra needs the multi purpose stadium supported by their sports minister to cater for all sports.

$2.8 billion of infrastructure promised in World Cup bid

I am more interested in live or near live games in Perth.

The Collingwood V Freo game on 1/2 a hour delay rated 315,000 people in perth around 3 times the normal amount, for 1 because the Dockers playing, but 2 because the game actually started on TV in perth before it had actually finished in the East.

Televised AFL is now impossible to watch

matty1974 said “As a football fan, i think a healthy NRL is imperative in ensuring Australia does not become a mono (Aussie rules) football country. Imagine what is must be like living in Melbourne, with wall to wall Aussie rules coverage. yikes! “.

Yep, probably the same wall to wall coverage for league from sydney, yikes ! .

BTW soccer has been pinching kids from league for 100 years, and plenty of them.

If there was ever the chance of footballing monoculture iin this country it would be soccer, no chance of any other code doing it, you are way off the mark here.

Blacktown Stadium is a potential white elephant

Forgettable night last night, losing to Collingwood and their orthodontically challenged supporters.

Barrass is going to this years WC, it was a media stunt, but hey believe what you want.

Will China destroy our World Cup dream?

It would make sense to utilise it year round, who would play there ?.

Blacktown Stadium is a potential white elephant

Well i guess Cockerill is gearing up to blame the AFL for our cup bid failings.

Beats me why soccer just didn’t use their own stadiums, then they would not have to negotiate with the big bad AFL.

Will China destroy our World Cup dream?

After the initial rise in crowds i would say that 10k is pretty good, would be suprised if they average more.

Well i guess Cockerill is gearing up to blame the AFL for our cup bid failings, typical soccer zealot.

I like puppy’s but kittens i am not so keen on.

The reverse troll eh ?.

AFL's compensation may be huge

Drummond.

Fremantle go from shocking to rocking

Possibly, but your approach to the article could be construed as denial …. not the river either.

Will China destroy our World Cup dream?

Bit hard to not take a interest when the roar is plastered with it, and of course the stadium upgrades are of great interest to many Westralians.

Will China destroy our World Cup dream?

Well whether it’s a article to stir world cup supporters up or not, it is very relevant to Australias bid, that much is true.

Will China destroy our World Cup dream?

In WA it’s the Burley not Sherrin.

I think SA has the Faulkner.

For your future info Bear.

Will China destroy our World Cup dream?

Not to mention he comes from my part of town, up at Quinns Rock.

Fremantle go from shocking to rocking

Fair point, and the voice of reason, unusual for a scouser ; )

Will China destroy our World Cup dream?

I agree AL, better in the long term than D Rich who Freo bypassed in the draft and was frowned upon for doing so, as Hill was a bit of a unknown,
