I think the real question is why not??? Why not have a team in Adeliade and continue to grow the game??? Although the Adeliade Rams were a terrible failure, a different tactic can work, look how succesul Melbourne has been over the last twenty years. No one in 1998 thought they would gross dollar one and they had a premiership the next year.

Fixing rugby league step two of five: Reduce or relocate teams

My original point was of course there are more Knicks fans as there are more people in New York with only tweo teams to pick from. The NRL Sydney teams have fewer fans available to them as Sydney only has 4.5 m people and nine teams. All the more reason to move a team to either, Perth, Brisbane or Melbourne or NZ. I really dont think more teams are needed just less Sydney teams. Cull four Sydney teams ( I’ll let the roares pick whom) and replace them with a Perth, Adeliade, Melbourne and Brisbane 2 team, easy! After all its the NRL not the east coast and NZ RL is it?

Arh the old New Jerseys Nets. Fair enough. But still barely a drop in the ocean for comparsion.

Yeah and look how that turned out

Fixing rugby league step two of five: Reduce or relocate teams

New York population, 10m plus, number of teams for New York in the NBA,- one
Sydney Population 4.5m, number of teams from Sydney in the NRL 9.

You sort have just proven the authors main point, less is more for the Sydney NRL teams.

sorry double up

Agree with you Randy but on field performace would have to be some of the reasoning. Look at Parramatta, and the Knights, more wooden spoons they final apperances and the last time that either team looked like a preimership contender was when they squared off in 2001 (cant count 2009, unfortunate for Eels fans). The Eels and the Raiders are the only two teams not to win a premiership post the NSWRL days and dont look like doing it any time soon. It clear that it’s time for these suburban teams to realise this has been a international comp for 24 years now and either keep up with the times are go to the NSW Cup. Also how can a team have fans, memberships, sponsorship etc, if they are contstantly losing??? Sooner or later the fans will give up

True, when is the last time the Knicks won a title…… 1973 what are they trying to do a Rabbits??

I agree that the Sydney teams have to either relocate or be done with. But as the past has soon, merge clubs don’t work. The Northern Eagles was a joke and killed off the Bears, the Tigers and the Dragons have only one preimership each, still thats more than Canberra, Parramatta, Gold Coast, and New Zealand have. It would be extremely difficult to determine which team to relocate or cull. Manly, Bulldogs, Sharks, Eels, Tigers and Dragons all have cases to stay and cases to be gone. It would depend on the criteria of moving a team. Which teams are financially struggling or have a low fan base, and which teams would benefit from the move.

it certainly would be Drew, Its been a while since Australia has had two world champions at the same time. not since the Fenech Harding era if im correct

Should Horn move up or return to welterweight?

Aussie boxing should be fine, Horn and Hogan are up for title fights

Can Australian boxing survive the post-Mundine era?

I really hope that Mundine doesn’t return to the ring, he is far too old and way past his best. In light of this Dennis Hogan is doing a deal to get his WBO Super-Welterweight title shot against Jaime Munguia, and Jeff Horn is trying to get a fight with WBA (regular) champ Rob Brant. Hopefully both guys can get up and we’ll have to aussie boxing champs.

On that Drew, I hear that Horn is nudging closer to a deal .

I think this is any interesting article and a brilliant debate. But you cant go past Kostya Tszyu, did more than anybody in boxing before or since. First Australian to unify a division and although it has been done since by Terence Crawford, he never defended the titles, unlike Tszyu you had several defences of his titles. Fenech was a great boxer but due to his hand injuries he was gone too soon.

Who is Australia's best boxer; Jeff Fenech or Kostya Tszyu?
