I would love to see Western Suburbs back in the comp. However, the Magpies are not really a MacArthur team. They are from Ashfield and share turf with Balmain. Most of the games were played at Pratten Park and most of the memorable games were played in Lidcombe. Realistically, the MacArthur Magpies won’t be Western Suburbs or Wests Tigers. It would be a separate team. Let’s be honest, the attendance rates were never high in the MaCArthur region. They are a country side. Both Balmain and WSM supporters are lucky they have games at their stadiums. I hope that the relationship with the region improves, but the Magpies are an inner west team. Hence, the best result would be no Balmain.

An open letter to the Wests Tigers and the NRL

I am very much for a Western Suburbs return, however it is close to impossible. Attendance at CSS is always low, and it takes a long time to get to the Macarthur region without traffic, let alone during and a bit after peak hour.

However, the team is 75% owned by Wests and 25% owned by Balmain. Yet, majority of the supporters would prefer the tiger as an image. The club needs to do something for the SWS region and not focus on the inner west.

I’ve been to a couple of Tigers games, and the magpie image is the minority. In fact, I saw more Dragons and Eels jerseys than Magpie jerseys at a game last year. When it comes to the St George Illawarra merger, the St George side dominates due to the financial ownership. However, this is not the case for Western Suburbs.

Playing out of the new Parra Stadium won’t help the Macarthur plan, just look at the A League. It would take a lot of work to separate the Magpies from other teams. Hence, being unlikely that they return. But honestly, it would be great to see them back in the comp and no Balmain in the comp.

Rugby league and the battle for hearts and minds in the west

Lomax is good enough to play Origin (bench, but anyway). He will be the one to look out for.

Ranking the rookies ahead of the 2019 NRL season

Nene didn’t do much. Younger players will be much stronger come March, and Norman may end up being our top try scorer. If he gels with Hunt, 2019 will be our year. We will make top 4 this year and show the media and the “fans” what Dragons are made of.

Thoughts of a pessimistic Red V fan

Ok, there is a lot in the article which I don’t agree with.
1. Latimore was never the priority signing. He played off the bench with effort and is a great guy for the team to be around. Even though he isn’t as good as most players, he tries his best and even scored us a try. However, his job will likely be done in 2019.
2. At the moment, there is no confirmation of “when Corey Norman was released by the Parramatta Eels to sign with the St George Illawarra Dragons”. It is still a maybe. Corey may end up playing the rest of his career in the blue and gold.
3. Corey may improve being at the Dragons, if it is the right move, good will come from it. I have faith in Mary that he will make the right decision. There is nothing wrong with having a bit of fun outside of footy. The media tends to blow everything out of proportion.
4. As for Dufty, he isn’t a great player, but he is so fast. I doubt he will ever represent his country, but he has room to improve. His ego is massive, but what can you expect. He is not a reserve grade player.
5. Zac Lomax is able to play on the wing, but it is more likely he will be playing in the centres. With him as a goal kicker, Widdop isn’t as needed.
6. Jason and Nene didn’t do much as wingers last year. Especially Jason. He had a shocker of a year and was even more surprised when he said that the Dragons offered in another contract. The best thing he did in 2018 was retire.
7. If Widdop does leave for England, Jai Field is faster and younger. He would work well in the halves and can even play as fullback, It would be a shame to let him go.

Aside from that, the priority should be to resign Tariq Sims. When he was on fire, we would win.

Why the Dragons signing Corey Norman is a mistake

Manly should have kept the Northern Eagles image and kept links in the central coast. There is nothing wrong with playing a couple of games a year at Brookie but, Manly needed and needs to change the image. Northern Eagles would have been premiership winners now.

You might like watching Manly suffer, but we need them
