Porte and then Froome going for the break. Quintana doesn’t appear to be able to keep up.

Ridiculous situation, they need barriers in the last few kms of all stages. not just the sprints, and guards to move people away from the riding line.

The organisers must have seen the crowds there when the riders were a few kms away and they should have done something to disperse them.

Tour de Farce: Froome forced to RUN to the finish line in complete debacle

he did need more time, as he knows Quintana will probably take some time back off him in the mountains like he did in stage 19 and 20 last year.

One of the main riders it will disadvantage would have to be Quintana, as he would be looking to get some time back on Froome.
He is still only 35 seconds behind and could easily make that up in one hard mountain stage as he demonstrated last year.
Froome is one of the best climbers in the field, but Quintana is better.

Le Tour: Impey sets up Matthews and sets the example for Orica-BikeExchange

a great Tour this year, Quintana is going to win the tour either next year or in the next few years. He is only 25 and still improving where the other main contenders are nearing the end of their careers, Nibali and Froome are 30 so they probably don’t have too many top competitive years left, Contador is 32 (and retiring at end of 2016) and Valverde is 35.
Of course it also depends on the route and a bit of luck.

Reflections on the 102nd Tour de France

Is Porte going to be clear number 1 rider for BMC at the Tour ? Or is it going to be shared with van Garderen?
Could be potential for conflict here as two team leaders don’t often work.

Can’t imagine van Garderen would be that happy, being team leader and now being relegated to at best dual team leader or worse back to domestique as he was to Cadel Evans.

Porte is a good rider and great on individual stages but does he have the consistency to win a 3 week tour ??

Richie Porte joins BMC

He is almost as good as any pure sprinter, Kittel, Cavendish, Griepel and that is normally without the big trains they have.
And this is in a team which is more focused on supporting Contador.

And he can win on the slightly hilly stages where they can’t.
So the answer is no, he is not a pure sprinter, he is better than a pure sprinter.

The question I have is can he take the next step and become a GC contender ? he won the recent Tour of California (8 days). so not totally out of the question.

Peter Sagan is not a pure sprinter, or is he?

Does Orica-Greenedge have enough riders to support Porte in the mountains ?? not with their current roster.
But if Porte moves to BMC, would he be a clear leader ahead of Tejay van Garderen ??
Positives and negatives for both choices.
Or he could move to a team other than those 2 options.

Give Chris Froome the title now, le Tour is over

All 4 favourites will compete, it unlikely they are going to miss the biggest GC.

Looking at the route for 2015, Quintana has got to be the favourite, the 2015 route has lots of mountain stages which he excels at.

The element that he struggled with and lost time on in previous races; the Individual Time Trial, has been reduced.
He lost nearly 4 1/2 minutes on Froome in the 2 ITTs in the 2013 tour, 3:16 just on the flat time trial on stage 11.
The 14km time trial is only slightly longer than a prologue, as all the other 3 favourites are good at ITTs (especially Froome), the lack of ITT benefits Quintana the most.

Contador will be ahead of Froome, he out climbed his last year and had superior tactics.
Nibali won’t get higher than 4th, he will struggle when facing the other 3 favourites,

My predictions on recent form and the route is 1st Quintana, 2nd Contador, 3rd Froome, 4th Nibali, the French riders that podiumed last year won’t be main contenders for a place if the 4 favourites are still in the race in the final week.

Of course it all dependent on how they get through the cobblestones and their form in 2015 🙂
