Interesting take. The hallmark of Kurtley’s career has been making others look good. Foley prime example, last night Donaldson, not taking anything away from Ben, he stepped up and had a great game.
Here’s a different view. Give Kurtley the ball more often and he will set others up to make metres, line breaks and points will be scored.

'Triple threat' Donaldson leads Force to massive win over Drua to keep Super Rugby finals hopes alive

Teams who kick more might have better kickers though.

Australian rugby is so reluctant to develop a kicking game - and that's a big mistake

Kicking is of obvious importance. Hang time, distance and space to gain territory and remove time from the opponent is the key. Alternately, kicks into touch for territory gain is also a sensible option.
What I find issue is mid field bombs for a potential 10 m gain (sometimes less) that turns your possession into a 60/40 chance of recovery. Maybe a knock on from the opposition, maybe a knock on from your team. Feels just like a roll of the dice move. And when the opposition do catch it and have a single phase of play that reaches the point where the kick was taken, well the may have well jackeled the ball. I am not absolutely against the high ball or box kick either. They can be executed well. It’s the out of ideas, gamble bomb.

All for kicking, but more is not the answer, it’s quality – when and kick selection. This absolutely should be a focus but if that results in more gamble bombs my finger will be itching for the remote to turn the game off.

All this talk of Larkham being one of the great fly halves needs to stop too I reckon.. couldn’t kick for goal and or for the line.

Why is the onus on Gordon again?

He has a strong long and short kicking game in the field of play. That’s the essential requirement.

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

What a roller coaster. Tahs manufactured their own chaos in the first half while Drua watched them disintegrate. Good effort to come back. Swinton was a game changer. No composure at the end of the game when they just needed some consistent phases. Well done to the Drua for doing what they needed to hold on and take the opportunity at the end.

Deja vu for Tane as Drua deliver another heart-breaker to under fire Coleman

Only nominated for IRB best player of the year in 2011. Clearly never worked at fullback??

Kurtley has unfortunately has consistently been dismissed by a stubborn segment of onlookers. Wouldn’t surprise me if you thought Donaldson was a preferred option.

'Why wouldn't you?': Beale backed for NRL switch by cross-code great

Hannigan and Holloway on their day are an asset. Some games (Ned more than Jed) can show pretty poor ball handling skills with basic errors though, costing more than they are giving. Both are assets as ball runners so if they can improve their handling to not make this a question their selection would be a bit easier.

Jed, Ned and Tane Edmed: The direction Joe Schmidt should head to put Eddie era to bed

Great win for the tahs. Crusaders uncharacteristically out of sync for a lot of the match. Some great pressure and urgency from the tahs in defence though! Patience and discipline also good to see. what a match from Tane in attack, defence and off the tee. Some critics of his really need to check themselves.

'No one backed us': $8 outsiders Waratahs upset Crusaders AGAIN as Edmed steps up to deliver famous win

Cheika won when there was about 13 wallabies in the Waratahs. That team was phenomenal. Mind you Cheika only just managed to win the title.

'Love to be involved': Larkham reacts to links to Wallabies return as Eddie replacement

I really like this idea. A recent champion player who will be relatable, respected and trusted by everyone. Calm demeanour and proven as part of the only current functioning Australian institution.

We don’t need another fly in statement coach. We need someone who can build a healthy culture and who has confidence and consistency in their approach.

'Love to be involved': Larkham reacts to links to Wallabies return as Eddie replacement

This campaign is an absolute debacle.

Hopefully Donaldson manages to play the best game of his life at 10. Anything less will see the Wallabies on an early plane home.

Exclusive: Wallabies set for fly-half switch in do-or-die World Cup Test against Wales

I never understood the hype around Latham at the time when he was playing. Occasionally spectacular but would seem to have a net negative impact on the team through his decision making. I rewatched an old game recently when he was playing and all the old frustration was still there. For every great thing he did there are three times where he would cost the Wallabies in some way.

Always thought it was a bit sad and a poor call that Burke lost his 15 jersey to him after sacrificing himself to score a match winning try that destroyed his shoulder.

Greatest XV: Matt Burke's balls of steel and how one word from John O'Neill sent the Wallabies 'nuts'

Plus 16 Australian NRL clubs might impact our potential. You could say that our inability to retain grass roots talent or the disproportionate effort required to convert is a systematic failure.

'Cancel his citizenship!' PM weighs in, ABs 'gobsmacked', as Hansen explains why he's helping Wallabies

Foley is a reliable goal kicker “the iceman”, within 30m of the sticks. Anything beyond 35 is a bit too far. Not really a true kicking threat and would also account for his high %
