This is the first time I’ve ever criticised an official , referee , Umpire. It is with great regret I must comment on the situation today where Chris Gayle was removed from the game today.
The first decision by the Umpire was a mistake.
The 2nd was an lbw decision that was clearly wrong in real time from the opposite side of the World.
The 3rd and 4th bad decisions Involved a no ball which should have been a free hit for Gayle with no jeopardy. The Umpire gave no margin of doubt to the batsman and gave him out.

That figure seems low. Perhaps it was only professional players counted. It’s always difficult to compare when statisticians get Involved.

If you can loose the Idea that NFL players have the gift of the Greek Gods then you might understand why a quality NRL player could succeed in that environment. Any athlete understands that.

How do you plan and negotiate broadcasting fees or Stadium deals for fixtures against Tonga? They may be useless next year. If Serbia or Whoever do well because they’ve got some expats playing how do you attract Investment? There is no continuity. Why are the IRL surprised by fundamental economics? Every time.

A mid season International against who? Tonga? Not possible they’re all Aus/kiwi locked into the NRL. France ? Maybe one day. There is no one to play against. How many times can you reinvent the wheel? Same 3 teams ad nauseum. Blame the NRL. I do.

If you watch Union these days the scrum is usually not much more than a restart. The scrum half feeds the ball crooked. Sometimes the referee for whatever reason penalises them for it , arbitrarily. Union is heading towards the non contested scrum.

Rugby chases a small pot of money. It’s probably unsustainable pressure on player welfare that will force a rethink eventually. Hard to know how that will end though.

It looks like International Rugby League has given up trying when heritage teams are allowed to compete in World Cups. It’s a 4 year cycle turning Inwards and going nowhere if that policy continues. Is Rugby League self deluded ? I say yes but the ones in charge will be happy to beleive otherwise.

I’m getting up earliers to watch the game here in London and would be ecstatic if England win. I’m under no Illusion though that it means much to anyone beyond a narrow rugby league fraternity. What a bonkers way to run a game.

Some of the knock out games and atmosphere has been hugely enjoyable . 2013 was as well . I don’t beleive we are going anywhere fast though if the International games progress is measured by the likes of Tonga and PNG being successful. I’ve just been watching highlights of GB v France 1954 Rugby World Cup final and been left wondering about why this game hasn’t expanded . 2017 was great but it hardly registered beyond die hard support.Why is that?

Tonga v England was one of the best I’ve ever seen. I would like to see Tonga play v England. Is that ever possible if the Tongans can’t know who is going to show.? That game was brilliant. Stop bagging RU and get this going.

Watching the game on Saturday I felt that the Australians are on the verge of becoming a second tier team Internationaly. To be honest though they’ve always punched above their weight given their playing numbers and eventually they’d come unstuck. Be sad if NRL ever dominates the North shore of Sydney harbour but it looks likely. Expanding rugby in Australia , given Perths demise , has been a mistake. Unfortunately it’s probably damaged the ARU . We do however look forward to what might be , for a while at least, Australia’s last competitive side to tour here (England etc) for a bit.

With Super Rugby about to reduce its size then a reality check is in order. The RFU is obligated to look after its members Interests. Hard economics. England is happy to accomadate any visiting team. That’s the games strength.

I thought Australia out thought the All Blacks . They didn’t gift them much ball by kicking it back to them. Genial has to go now . He’s too slow. Nick White was brilliant. The red card makes the result a non event. It’s a shame when a refs decision to send a player off determines the outcome. We won’t know till next week how these two teams really rock.
