So when is Stan Sport actually being launched? Two Currie Cup semifinals and a final and nowhere to watch it legally in Australia?!

Stan Sport reveals subscription cost ahead of Super Rugby season

One round in Brisbane…but why?

New Zealand Rugby unhappy as SANZAAR releases 2020 Rugby Championship draw

New coach, perfect time to get the youngsters in there and try them out. Duane could hardly go much further than the Lions series before he retires.

My predicted South African XV for the Rugby Championship

Well I prefer to have him there rather than not so hopefully he can keep it up.

Aish Corne, we both know mismanagement has seen millions go down the drain down there. At some point they going to lock the doors and it will stay locked. The hotbed of black rugby has given us some great players but they all shined somewhere else unfortunately.

My predicted South African XV for the Rugby Championship

Good list but a little sad that the Garden Gnome did not even make your honourable list, the tackle on Jeff Wilson alone should give him a spot…

My five favourite Wallabies of all time

I thought the Kings are dead, may be Top 7 but the plan is good. Said many moons ago this is the way to go but money always get in the way. Top 4 unions wanted the guaranteed income and tough luck for the rest.

My predicted South African XV for the Rugby Championship

Malcolm Marx – a beast of a player but maybe it is his biceps giving him trouble when it comes to line-outs! It is such an important part of the Boks play that you can hardly afford to play him unless he has improved a whole lot.

Duane Vermeulen – who steps in when he retires? Maybe time to blood the replacement and get the experience needed.

Lukhanyo Am – he runs that backline on defense, underrated indeed.

Willie – anyone but Willie please, plenty of youngsters with heaps of potential. Start trying them out now rather than waiting for another stupid chippie from Willie before you do it…

My predicted South African XV for the Rugby Championship

It is what sets the game apart from other wannabe sport trying to ‘make it better’. Reality is this game is growing like a wild fire up north and here down south we try to fix ailing numbers by ‘fixing’ scrums? Scrums are not the problem but rather lack of support at grassroots levels for many years. This is bearing fruit now and changing scrum laws ain’t going to fix it…

When my son was but a little grasshopper I had to search the internet, ask around and drive around to find the closest rugby club to sign him up. By that time he already had 8 weeks of AFL ‘training’ under his belt, came via a brochure from school and cost me $10. For that he got a ball, a cap and a shirt…

Eight is more than enough

South Africa had great success with an 8 team Currie Cup competition for many years. As a local comp I would think that is a good number to aim for.

Why Super Rugby AU is the competition we never knew we needed

Correct no lawyer but at least I can use logic. If you can’t work out the apparent contradiction then so be it.

Can I say I'm actually enjoying Super rugby again?

That is a minimum at this point, only problem I have then is quality. Now I have no problem with a slow start but quality needs to show a steady increase over time. This is where I don’t know if RA actually have the kahoonas to take the steps from grassroots up to set it all up. They seem to be much more interested in the top end of town and the money that goes with it.

As I mentioned under another post, the rugby was great but the longevity of a competition of 5 teams are limited. You already saw it with crowd numbers dwindling from the very first game to the latter rounds. If SANZAAR and super rugby is dead then the long term plans will need to include a much broader local competition. Yes it will mean the end of the super teams as we know them but it is the only way forward.

Stronger apart: The future of rugby in Australia and New Zealand

Two reasons you like it:

1. The drought of rugby preceding the start of the comp, you can only go so long without it and when it started you lapped it up.

2. Fewer games overall so you can easily watch every game. Including the NZ games you had one on Friday night, two on Saturday and one again on Sunday. No fatigue in watching 7 hours of rugby non stop.

That all said, this will get stale very quickly, you can’t keep on watching the same 5 teams playing week in, week out. Variety is the spice of life and this ain’t it.

Can I say I'm actually enjoying Super rugby again?

Look I don’t have the answer yet but my gut tells me there are no winners in this relationship breaking up. All three nations will be losers and the real question is who will be the biggest loser.

Sorry Australia, the other two nations will supercharge southern hemisphere rugby
