India were beaten fair and square. Play again? Why?

Six talking points from the World Test Championship final

Absolutely agree with last tackle options.

QLD surprisingly had a few chances on the NSW line in the first 25 mins or so. This is where a Cronk, Smith or Thurston would be marshalling the troops, calming everyone down, and rolling the ball into the in-goal and getting a repeat set, building the pressure.

Holmes should have probably sent a little grubber through instead of passing on the Latrell intercept.

And look at what happened when they started doing it. Munster got a repeat set, and Feldt almost scored. A grubber in goal isn’t a ‘sexy’ play, but its generally a high percentage one.

I thought the service from McCullough was slow last night, he took a half-second delay on some passes that allowed the Blues line to get up and nullify the 1st or 2nd receiver.

But I wonder whether this was his fault, maybe a general lack of communication or organization. I’m not sure you get that when you have a strong halfback screaming ‘give me the ball, NOW!’

QLD looked slightly more cohesive when Hunt when into first receiver. Maybe something to consider for Game 3, they won’t get rid of DCE, but perhaps they should consider starting Hunt.

Agree on what QLD needs positionally. I feel that Capewell is being scapegoated a bit for what happened, he has been played out of position and would make much more sense as a utility off the bench.

Expecting him to mark up on Turbo was always unrealistic. I wonder if things would have changed with some saying Fifita should have gone into centre. He’s a few clicks quicker than Capewell and has the size, but not sure if he has the head or the ticker for Origin yet.

That’s fair, I agree with that. I would have him coming off the bench as a nut and bolts 2nd rower or lock.

I just feel he cops a bit as a result of the unfortunate circumstances of no-depth. I’m not completely sure he would have been comfortable himself last year or this year being called into centre. But he didn’t whinge or complain, and he had a go.

I wonder what would have been different if they had of tried a specialist.

Some roarers were saying Chambers because of size and experience, but it’s clear that he is past it and has lost a step or two, and the blues outside backs would probably have run rings around him too. Besides that, I don’t really know who else could have gone in. Tom Opacic?

I think thats a tad harsh on Capewell.

Yes I admit he was woeful defensively on Turbo (who isn’t when they are matched up against Turbo – he’s a freak) but he is playing out of position.

He made the most runs, the most meters and the most post contact metres for QLD, and Gagai, Munster and Welch all missed more tackles.

If he were used as a 2nd rower or off the bench I would be happy. He’s got more balls than someone like Fifita.
