Just when you think Foster cannot be more incompetent than he has already been, he waits until days before the opening test vs France to rule Narawa out of the tournament, despite suffering a back injury the first test in early July. As a result, there was no time to bring in a legitimate blindside flanker to replace the injured Frizell for the crucial opening test.

Neither Papalii or Jacobson are legitimate blindside flankers at test level.

To make things worse, Foster then selects Lienart-Brown at 12, who has hardly ever played a test with Mo’unga, over Havili who was the starting 12 alongside Mo’unga at 10 when the All Blacks saved Foster’s job and defeated the Springboks last season in Johannesburg.

RWC Teams: Wallabies star axed, Hansen misses Ireland squad, England spring two surprises

You so badly over-rated Biggar and Farrell and under-rated Jalibert.

Top 10 playmakers at Rugby World Cup - and why the Wallabies' young gun has the game's toughest gig

I can understand the jettisoning of Quade as I don’t believe Jones truly believes they will get passed the Semifinal. But if you were building towards 2027, isn’t Lolesio still the second best #10 prospect?

RWC Backs Power Rankings: 'Cohesive, smart' Ireland edge ABs, the glimmer of hope for unproven Wallabies

Quite honestly, I do not see the All Blacks coming out that flat again in the first 20 minutes (7-0) and then taking 2 yellows and a red in first half, just as Springboks did not come out flat two games in a row and penalize themselves to death in the first 20 minutes as they did in Auckland test.

When the All Blacks meet in the Springboks in the Final, it will be a much tighter match. And it will be won by goal kicking.

That is exactly Jake White’s view in his recent article MZ.

What happened to Noah Lolesio? Why was Donaldson selected over him?

Two years ago, Lolesio was the future at 10. Now he is dropped off the radar at age 24?

Genuinely asking , not trolling

Ratima has done NOTHING at Super Rugby level. You like him because he is a Chief, no other reason.

Is it too soon to talk about Cam Roigard?

Or bring Josh Lord into squad as fourth lock and push Tupou Vaa’i to blindside, which is where he should play the entire next RWC cycle because NZ NEED bigger loosies and he is a short lock.

Is seven weeks enough time for the All Blacks to learn, reset and adapt before the World Cup quarter-finals?

Mal, I liked your article. But even before Lomax was injured, you need 6 props with the new HIA rules.
You certainly do not need to carry Emoni Narawa or Caleb Clarke- drop one and add a blindside flanker who is a LEGITIMATE lineout jumper

Is seven weeks enough time for the All Blacks to learn, reset and adapt before the World Cup quarter-finals?

The All Blacks totally screwed up selecting 6 outside backs and only 5 loose forwards, especially when they knew that Retallick would miss pool matches resulting in Scott Barrett or Vaa’i not being able to cover blindside flanker. You simply cannot go into a Test match with only 2 legitimate lineout targets, especially against the Springboks. They needed to select another blindside flanker who is a very physical in loose and a legit lineout jumper. Personally, Cullen Grace, a former standout U20 lock and Crusaders 8, would be my preferred backup to Frizell and is now healthy and available for selection. Samipeni Fineau looked very good in the second half of his one Test. Anyone but Jacobson or Papalii, who are not lineout forwards which a blindside MUST be at Test level.
There is still time to change the RWC squad without disqualifying the dropped outside back from rejoining the squad as the Rosters are not actually set in stone until the teams arrive in France one week before the tournament opener.

Looking forward to watching the performances of Jacobson, who I believe is simply too short to start at blindside and will cause the ABs all kinds of issues in the lineout (like Jacobson as an 8 though), Tamaiti Williams and Fletcher Newell (who I think Will scum very well against Boks reserve front row, Newell is NZ’s best scrummaging tighthead), and Roigard who I have not seen enough of at test level to make an informed opinion (although Christie is mediocre so Roigard wins by default the 21 jersey)

It might be a 'friendly' - but taking on the Boks at Twickenham is still oh so crucial for the All Blacks

Did the author even look at the All Black squad named before writing this article? Many players referenced such as Havili, Fainga’anuka, and Narawa are not even on the team sheet.

You are factually wrong Prof. It was John Hart who moved Christian Cullen to 13 at the 1999 RWC.
And as much as Kiwis hate to admit, the great Christian Cullen was a shadow of his previous greatness by 2003 due to several serious knee injuries and age.

Bledisloe heartbreak: Eddie's Wallabies denied by last minute Mo'unga penalty as ABs seal stunning comeback

I would like to know why Frizell was substituted when he was dominating the game?
Barrett and Retallick were also outstanding but Vai’a is mediocre.
I am still waiting to see something from Vai’a and I think he has been surpassed by the much taller and heavier Josh Lord as fourth lock. If you are taking only for locks to RWC, you cannot have 2 of them under 2 meters (Barrett and Vai’a).

Having given up any hope of Jordan playing fullback at the RWC, I would love to see a back three of: 11 Fainga’anuka, 15 Barrett, and 14 Jordan.

Fainga’anuka has no equal in terms of being the ball carrier to run throw a brick wall up the middle of the off the park and is a proven finisher out wide on the wing.

Caleb Clarke is mediocre the past two seasons and I would not select to RWC squad. Mark Teale should be select to the squad as the second left wing with Emoni Narawa the second right wing.

Jordan will not start at fullback despite being a far superior fullback than Beauden Barrett for two reasons: 1. Foster wants a fly half playing fullback for his dual playmaker system (and to his credit Beauden has finally allowed his 10s to run the show and is picking his spots for injecting himself more judiciously than in past seasons). And most importantly 2, Jordan is by far the best kick and chase winger the All Blacks have had since Cory Jane in 2011, along with being the most dangerous support runner in broken play in world rugby

If Blackadder can get some games in for Canterbury in NPC before RWC selection deadline, he will be selected over Samipeni Fineau. Blackadder can play 6 or 7.

I think Jacobson is an outstanding 8 on both sides of the ball. Would prefer a taller lineout forward at 6 however

In the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific playoff matches, the Crusaders dominated the QF, SF, and Championship final with a back row of Pablo Matera (6), Ethan Blackadder (7), and Cullen Grace (8).

REACTION: Fozzie hails 'special' performance as All Blacks lay down World Cup marker

Cullen Grace is still only 23. He will be Razor’s long-term 6 as he is an outstanding line-out forward. Blackadder has played both 6 and 7 for the Crusaders and Razor may see him more as a 7 at Test level and want a taller player like Cullen at 6.
They play the style of rugby that Razor and Jason Ryan demand from their forwards as do the Chiefs pair of Samipeni Fineau (6) and Luke Jacobson (8) who the Crusaders pair will compete with. All are still in their 20s and young enough to be at their peak still by 2027, as will Dalton Papilli (7) and Ardie Savea (8).

Will Jordan has scored 21 tries in 21 tests for the All Blacks- how could you possibly say Jordan has not been as impressive for the All Blacks as he is in Super Rugby?

Jordan has the greatest strike rate in All Black history for players with 20 tests or more!

Kiwi View: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves - Foster gamble could be exposed by smart Boks ploy

The most ridiculous comment I’ve read in a long time on Roar. You do not build your attack around your fullback, you build your attack around your 10.

If you have a standout 10 who does not have chemistry with standout fullback, you drop the fullback and select another who does have chemistry with your 10. Your 10 has the greatest influence on winning or losing a match more than any other player- you select your best 10.

For the All Blacks, it’s obvious that Mo’unga- Barrett have no chemistry. It’s obvious that Barrett’s best days have long since past. Mo’unga has great chemistry with Will Jordan who plays like Barrett use to play back in 2015-2017.

Drop Barrett from the 23 man squad and have McKenzie on the bench to cover 10/15.

Is there a less physical and intimidating midfield combo than Jordie & Reiko among the top 8 international teams?
When the All Blacks were winning 90% of their tests and World Cups, they had either Ma’a Nonu or Sonny Bill Williams at 12 terrorizing the opposition, especially on defence.
Where is the hard crashball running, hard hitting center for the All Blacks?

McKenzie recalled, Stevenson snubbed, debutant winger named as All Blacks reveal team to face Cheika's Pumas

The Crusaders did not sign ONE All Black from another franchise over Scott Robertson’s 7 years.
Every single Crusader who became an All Black was developed by the Crusaders.

The Chiefs signed All Black Nepo Laulala from the Crusaders. Just saying

I could care less if the game grows in Western Australia or Victoria. It’s a pipe team to think rugby will ever be anything more than a minority sport outside of NSW and Queensland and ACT. While AR has spent the past two decades chasing the dream of expanding their markets in Perth and Melbourne, rugby has declined in popularity in Sydney and Brisbane to League over that same period.

I pay a monthly fee to watch the best quality rugby games I can get for my money. 5 NZ teams, 3 Australia teams, and 1 Fiji team is the way to go until Samoa or Tonga (not a combined 6th NZ franchise) is ready to join and play on their home island.

Super Rugby can be fixed. Here's how
