Maybe there is something to be said about champions becoming wooden spooners the following year, and vice versa, but I think there is a flip side, and that flip side might also speak to the quality of the league overall.
There is a downside to clubs not being able to become and remain strong for longish periods.
There are many European leagues where 2, 3, or 4 clubs have dominated for ever, and it does not appear to have diminished the popularity of those leagues across the world.

You can stick your uncompetitive EPL, Bundesliga and Serie A - this year's A-League is far more entertaining

No, I have a pretty good recollection of the game, and other players were involved (or should have been involved) long before Neill was isolated.

'I’ve got nothing to show for it': Neill opens up on bankruptcy after ex-Socceroo narrowly avoids jail

I applaud anything which might reduce the ugly look of players crowding around and jostling with a ref after a decision has been made (in fact, maybe VAR does help reduce this at the higher levels of the game).

Sit down, shut up: Soccer considers adopting rugby rule change to combat dissent and tactical fouls

It’s a team game, there were 10 other blokes on the pitch.

Very sad to hear about the plight of a former socceroos captain.

It’s great that we have moved on from the dark days of the NSL, of course, go looking for a write up of any A-League game from the last round, and there’s none to be found.

The dark days of a divided NSL and dinosaur opinions are finally dead: Australian football is entering an unprecedented period of success

If it ends up making a small profit, I would have thought that would and should be viewed as a success.
An important point is that it’s at the start of the season, generally a period where fans are ultra keen to see their teams play live, so genuine fans might feel short changed about this.
The average American sports fan is likely to react with bemusement upon discovering that there are two forms of rugby, and if they express any interest, it might be to answer the question as to how and why that came about.

Las Vegas gamble a high-risk, low-reward play by NRL … the US couldn’t care less about your funny little game

I think we ended up with an attendance average of around 9,000 for the opening round.
I don’t think that’s too bad, certainly much better than the COVID years.

The A-League's 'family-friendly' kick-off times are keeping fans away

three strikes policy only operates out of competition, clearly this was found on a game day, so it’s a different kettle of fish

On top of a fantastic opening round for the womens A-League, there’s a bit more good news for the APL and the upcoming mens competition.
The Perth Glory license has been sold.
Western United has completed its stadium at Tarneit and will play their home games there.
I can also see Silver Lake’s investment in the APL start to bear fruit for both parties.

Record crowds, star players, entertaining games: A glimmer of hope for the 'basket case' that is Australian domestic football

Very impressive opening round crowds for the women.

The NRL has just completed perhaps its biggest season in history in terms of both attendances and TV ratings.
It’s about to sign a new TV deal which may well surpass the AFL’s $4.5 billion deal.
I think the A-League is as far away as matching the NRL today as it has been since inception.

It happened before... Can an improved A-League grow and match the NRL's crowd numbers?

is the key concern here that the grand final attendance should have been something closer to 99,984 than the reported 100,024?
Sounds like an issue that is worthy of a lengthy article.

Was there really a 'full house’ at the AFL grand final?
