Eric Berry has clearly been the biggest loss for this team. Alex Smith has always been a QB with a ceiling as high as “GOOD”. Meanwhile he’s spent the last few years with formidable and above offensive weapons like Jamaal Charles, Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Add in studs over the years like Dontari Poe, Berry, Houston and Marcus Peters on defence and this is a complete team across the board with the weaknesses lying within a QB with a ceiling that isn’t very high and an average offensive line.
Fast forward to this year and they lose Berry for the year with an achilles injury and Poe to free agency and all of a sudden a defence which has led the way for this team is below average. I understand that they went on a winning streak without these players to start the year, but I feel that it was Andy Reid’s coaching which hid their deficiencies once Berry went down. Coaches have caught on and a once dominant defence has holes on the defensive line and in the secondary.
