Not as if he’ll pick the younger ones in the WCQ’s. If in the unlikely event he does he’ll probably blame them for the defeat(s).

Osieck names Socceroos training squad ahead of qualifiers

“And of course the A-League will then be embarrassed when more than 40,000 supporters pile into Tianhe Stadium for the return leg”.
So it’s only emabarrasing when CCM draw small ACL crowds but the Victory’s big 5k ones in 55k stadium 2 years ago weren’t embarrasing? I see….

A-League clubs must make their mark in Asia

In all fairness (assuming you’re from Australia), the media has a lot to do with that. Remember that the football was broadcast on SBS and not channel 7 (with the obvious exception being the final) so the sport wasn’t as publicised as others.

Olympic football is about more than the game itself

Haha! Made my day 🙂

Olympic football is about more than the game itself

Very interesting, thanks for the info Fussball. Adds another dimension to the situation!

Olympic football is about more than the game itself

@raghu and @MelbCro

Regardless of how it happens there needs to be a bridge between the A-League and state leagues so that all talent is given a chance to make it professionally and to improve the standard of play in Australia.

Solving the issue of the long A-League off-season

First of all i have to say that understand and agree with the logic behind your comment, this article aimed to highlight the issue of the six month off-season.

I don’t want to see a rushed, poorly though out initiative by the FFA to solve this issue nor do I expect the A-League to match the 100 year old competitions in fan engagement and passion.

I just think this is a significant problem that will prevent A-League fans from making this connection with their clubs in the long term and should be resolved as soon a possible in the best manner possible.

Solving the issue of the long A-League off-season

Must admit the crowd was dissappointing last night however a few factors must be taken into account:

-The game was at etihad, significantly reducing the level of atmosphere
-The game clashed with “Dream time at the ‘G” a major AFL event
-The game could not be played at AAMI because of ‘Dream Time” due to conjestion reasons. (possibly 120,000 people in that area of the city at night!)
-The tickets were overpriced ($60 dollars for a level 3 adult)
-The level of support from the Greek community was overestimated, as today many young Greeks are 3rd or even 4th generation migrants and have lost their roots to Olympiacos, unlike last time Olympiacos came, when 1st and 2nd generation migrants still had a strong connection to the club.

International clubs playing Down Under

Celtic have travelled to Australia twice. I was referring to their most recent tour, when they played Central Coast at ANZ and lost!

Sorry about leaving out Juventus, simply forgot!

The Manchester United game on the other hand was against the socceroos, and because of this wasn’t a true reflection of Australia domestic football which the article aimed to commentate on.

International clubs playing Down Under

Actually forgot to mention Juventus! They came down in 2008 to play Melbourne Victory. Around 40,000 people showed up!

Our thoughts on the crowd situation. Thanks for the suggestion Chris!

A-League Round Eight Talking Points

Next week doesn’t look like a good crowd week.

A-League Round Eight Talking Points

You cannot dispute the fact that Victory fans have high expectations for the club, we are saying that Mehmet is under a lot of pressure at the moment while Melbourne Heart a finding their feet in the league. The club is hardly in crisis but it is heading in the wrong direction and unable to get results, it cannot afford to frustrate fans any more then they have and simply needs to start winning games to turn their season in the right direction and take the pressure of their coaching staff.

A-League round seven talking points

Exactly right Rusty. Brisbane Roar have done a lot for the league, much of which goes unnoticed and overshadowed by the team’s run of form. Hopefully teams in the A-League begin thinking about the long term and getting the best out of the players they have at their disposal.

Exposing Brisbane Roar

Just to clear a few things up,

Marta is regarded as the best female player of all time and a few of the Matildas are a already playing the league.
