Nah not really. I’ll Keep watching AL regardless.

2. Regarding stadiums, both pay for it. AL clubs pay match fees to access the facilities and the tax payer pays because they own the stadiums.

It's time the APL came clean on the state of the game in the A-Leagues

Munro Mike – A fair bit to unpack there..

Yes AAMI park is funded by the taxpayer, hence why Melb Victory pays match fees every time they want to use it. Nothing wrong with that. They don’t own the stadium.

The AFL owns Docklands and has or will be getting upgrades done to it..do you know who’s paying for the upgrades..have a look, it’s not the AFL.

Gold Coast..You mentioned Com Gov, QL Gov and GC Council..that is all tax payers money. Thank you for pointing that out.

I wasn’t making the point for or against stadium builds. I was simply pointing out a lot of tax payers money goes into AFL infrastructure..and remember AFL is a Pro Sport..I’m not talking about the community clubs. Did North pay 100% for their training facilities, Bombers..Hawks..Saints..Bulldogs etc..

I will finish with this..remember what the AFL said about Tassie..no stadium..no team..in other words..no taxpayers money..no team. Clearly it shows government is in bed with the AFL.

The AL does have the financial clout because the tax payer doesn’t have to bail them out. They come up with the money themselves. Unlike the AFL, so rich..yet gets the tax payer to pay for like 95% of its projects. Perfect example is Tassie..800m of tax payers money..gold coast suns, gws too..all tax payer sink holes..none of these clubs paid for their facilities without the tax payer and the list goes on and on..AFL does not have the financial clout because without the tax payer most of their expansions plans wouldn’t have happened. The AFL business model can’t work properly independently without the tax payer. The day the AFL stops taking tax payers money so frequently to survive is the day I’ll stop watching the AL.

Spot on..no matter what the FA will never get a fair share of funds. Look at last year’s women’s World Cup..the sport was a smash hit across the entire country and this was their reward..the government of the day announces a 200m fund to all women’s sport..talk about pissing on the football community nation wide..After this year’s 2024 AFL Grand Final I’m expecting the money generated from that event to then be given to the FA..yeah right!

A-League avoids total embarrassment after broadcast partner goes belly up

Thanks Football is life.

A-League avoids total embarrassment after broadcast partner goes belly up

Thanks Grem. ???? I think people have forgotten what it meant when JA scored that pen to put Australia into the WC..at that time we all witnessed a once in a life time moment..No one believed we would qualify again after that..But since that moment look what the FA has done..we haven’t missed a beat since. If you were to tell me we would qualify for every WC up to now since that pen moment, I would’ve laughed at you. The idea that football’s future is bleak and it’s about to go broke etc is absolute rubbish.

A-League avoids total embarrassment after broadcast partner goes belly up

That’s correct Chris1..the show must go on and I think it will. The jets will have new owners, Canberra bid will be finally accepted and more expansion of teams giving opportunities to players and coaches to provide further supply to the national teams into the future. The more opportunity the better. 2025 season Auckland and Macarthur will join the ALW. Finally the 2nd division will kick off soon, opening the door to even greater opportunities. I think the possibilities and opportunities are looking positive for both the men’s and women’s leagues moving forward.

Both ALM, ALW leagues are very young and need the generations to be exposed to them. 19 years is nothing..hardly a drop. I think better crowds consistently will occur once the leagues are minum 40 years old. 1 generation is absolutely nothing.

Mistakes have been made by both the FA and APL. Hopefully they will learn and grow from it by focusing on their core business which is football.

Correct Chris, it’s becoming obvious some want the AL to fail. But it won’t. Provided the league expands to a minimum of 16 teams and introduces P/R at some point and it will because the 2nd division is finally being created. Have the APL and FA made mistakes..yes. But I don’t believe they want to remove the Jets and the Canberra bid. I think both organisations have learnt from the Fury and Gold Coast United days. That was handled poorly and hopefully never again.
Yep, sadly teams come and go. But for some reason it means the death of the entire AL. Yet, in the AFL that talk is never mentioned. The Bears and the lions died long ago and the AFL show goes on..

A-Leagues 'not in a position where we can underwrite clubs' as Jets, Canberra face uncertain future over ownership dramas

Waz, what a load of rubbish. The end of the AL is not near. I have read so many articles about this false prophecy. The end is near..yet Perth Glory have new owners..Auckland FC has put money into the league..the 2nd division is being created so eventually P/R can finally occur..Newcastle Jets and Canberra to have owners shortly..add another 2 teams to the AL to make it 16..yet you think the FA and the APL are going to shut the shop so they can throw away the keys? I’m sorry, that is total fantasy.

Newcastle and Canberra will have owners, it’s just a typical media beat up. To buy a club takes time and most importantly to find the right owners too. No one said they have 4 weeks to find owners..The chair of the APL didn’t give a date, he gave an example, a hypothetical. All he did was express his frustration over a process the APL are not fully in control of..Both teams are currently in negotiations with buyers and there has been interest previously. The APL wants money, so selling these licences are in the best interests of the APL and the league. This is the media reporting its annual dooms day report about the AL. I tell you it’s getting old.
