“Essendon is committed to providing an inclusive, diverse, and a safe club where everyone is welcomed and respected.”

Well clearly not everyone… Bunch of weasel words from cowards.

Bombers new CEO sensationally OUT after heat over 'absolutely appalling' and 'offensive' church ties

Slight issue with the Wallace reference. The FBI investigated and found that the rope was not a noose. In fact it was a handle to pull down garage doors used in every garage at the facility since at least 2019. Not an act of racist aggression in any way.
In a hyper politicised environment sports need to be careful not to jump too hard onto every bandwagon. Actions demonstrate values, such as Arthur Beetson captaining Australia’s rugby league team in 1975 because he was the best player for the job. Tangible equality is more powerful than activist platitudes.

Sport must follow platitudes with real change

The 4 team competition format devalued the concept. Excluding Souths and Cronulla who actually showed commitment to women’s footy before it was trendy was a poor decision.

Reflecting on the legacy of Todd Greenberg

The Greenburg legacy…. the triumph of optics over substance.

Reflecting on the legacy of Todd Greenberg

After many NRL games players of opposing teams form a circle, kneel and pray together. This could be considered both diversity and inclusion. Another powerful image is the Fijiian national team singing hymns together before the game with tears streaming down their faces.
Neither of these images made the ad. Perhaps next year.

If you don't like the NRL TV ad, you may need to change

Smith and Lab aside Australia’s batting has been dreadful. Exposed once again on a good enough wicket.

Warner is a shot duck. Will get runs on a road against poor bowlers but his career is on an inexorable decline.
Harris has been poor. 5 failures and never looked like getting in.
Compared to the previous 2, Kawaja has been harshly treated as the top order fall guy.
Bancroft has technical issues but at least showed some ticker and soaked up deliveries.
Head is loose and will be ok at 6 on flat decks with no movement.
Wade has coasted on one score.
Lots of thinking for the selectors to decide on a batting unit for the future.
Lab has been a good find. Smith is Smith.

Archer and Curran rip through Australia

Then its the first time in his career that he has illustrated form that would justify being anywhere near a test side (which was my original point).

Division 2 may not be village cricket but it sure aint test standard either.

If he is picked I hope he goes well. I just have little confidence given the totality of his record.

Unlucky seven: Who will miss the Ashes - and what is Australia's best XI?

Yes it would if Anderson was trying to break into a test side on the back of very mediocre test and FC career stats. However, Anderson is an all time great and is just tuning up.

Labuschagne has to score heavily at higher levels over a longer period of time to justify a place over better credentialed players. Being a good bloke is nice to have, being able to score test runs is essential.

Unlucky seven: Who will miss the Ashes - and what is Australia's best XI?

If Labuschagne gets picked previously without scoring any runs (Langers good bloke rule) he will be in line to be captain forevermore given has actually has some runs, albeit in division 2 village cricket

Unlucky seven: Who will miss the Ashes - and what is Australia's best XI?

Any side with Labuschagne at #3 automatically loses

VOTE: Which expert picked the better Ashes side?

All the Victorians choked in the biggest game. Coincidence?

Clinical England boss Australia in World Cup semi-final

I guess the Aussies will have to suck on that result.

Matildas knocked out by Norway in penalty shoot-out

Rep selections are often about politics as much as form. Cleary is an obvious case in point. His play in club football and origin football does not warrant selection as halfback. 4 origins is a reasonable sample size for most to assess impact at the level and Cleary offers nothing of note. His petformsnce being branded as solid when Walker being hung out to dry was disingenuous.

The difference between Maloney and Cleary at this level is stark. One knows his role and sets out to lead and create. The other is ‘solid’.

Surely Nathan Cleary is in the last-chance saloon

Good that Cleary’s only contribution for the game was in the 80th minute with the game won. Maloney dominated the game. Cleary tackled, kicked and created precisely nothing.
