First I will declare my loyalties, I am a Hawks supporter. Second I have the odd flutter on the footy. Half way through the Pies/Port game I texted a Magpie mate that even if the Pies win I will never back them again. They have gone onto the ‘List’ of never backs with Nth, Port and the Crows. Not because they are a bad football team but just because they are so inconsistent. Now I’m trying to be objective when I say this. When we (Hawks) play the Pies if Cloke and Jessie White are playing I count that as a bonus for my team. Just as when we play the Roos if Majak is playing I effectively think of them playing with a man down. Personally if they were playing for my team I would want to see them dropped to the magoos for two reasons. A) Get them out of the spotlight and work on their inconsistencies. B) Force the rest of the team to work on different options to goal. As for Elliott dropping that mark I feel your pain (financially if not emotionally) but sometimes _hit happens. If Cyril had have gotten onto that handball when playing Port we would have won. But I reckon the pluses outweigh minuses.

Stop talking yourself up Collingwood, second is the first loser

It wasn’t a squirrel grip but it wasn’t a accident either. Just another cheap shot to add to his collection.

Longmire slams squirrel grip slur

I like the idea of fines being handed out. All head high frees to be reviewed on Mondays and a financial penalty applied to those who have been judged guilty of initiating the contact. $2000 a pop and it will dissapear like magic.

Gillon McLachlan: Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown

I dont begrudge random bad calls from umpires all I want is a competent level of consistency. The fact is the interpretation of some rules change not only from week to week but often from quarter to quarter. Two of the most obvious to me seem to be ‘incorrect disposal’ and what constitutes 15 metres. All I propose is that umpires be allowed to umpire on their own merits without direction or interference from the umpiring hierarchy during the game. Then, as players are, to be picked or dropped for next game solely based on their performance. Not, I repeat not based on how well they comply with outside direction during the game. Outside of this I would also like to see some common sense applied. Holding the ball decisions based on the players realistic ability to get rid of the ball, not on whether or not he performs some some sort of ritual maneuver akin to being electrocuted to the umpires satisfaction. As a side note getting rid of the deliberate out of bounds rule would also be a step forward, one of the most subjective pieces of BS in the game.

Why are AFL umpires so disrespected by fans?

In regards to the Jack Viney decision my question is this: What is the AFL Players Association going to do about it? This surely must be the icing on the cake in terms of inconsistent, inane and unjust decisions made by the tribunal, in this case, and its companion the MRP in a multitude of other cases. The vacuous reasoning and outright fantastical thinking needed to arrive at the Viney verdict has to be challenged by the AFLPA. I quote from the AFLPA website ‘we created a body that would strive to protect and enhance the interests of AFL players and the game we love’. Well this is it guys, time to sound off like you’ve got a
pair. Looking after the game means more than making sure your members are well payed. Forget about the AFL doing anything other than the almost nepotistic and unquestioning backing of the present system that allows the repeated travesties that are handed out each week, they won’t do jack. It is incumbent upon the AFLPA to DEMAND that as near as possible that crystal clear definitions of a reportable infraction and the penalty it attracts be implemented. I love this game and am sick of it being maltreated by untouchables who seem to have lost touch with the simple reality that in a contact sport people will get hurt,
more often than not accidently. It’s a wonder the tribunal buffoons don’t try and penalise clubs for breaching duty of care every time a player does a hammy. This requires a decision from the AFLPA, not a speech, a DECISION!

Son, I remember when AFL was a contact sport
