…Not to mention expensive airfares and accomodation for those travelling in peak season in January from interstate.

Is the A-Leagues' Unite Round worth persisting with next season?

Hi Mike, I was there and attended the double headers at Allianz as part of Unite Round. So saw it all with my own eyes. Let’s start with the positives. Holding in Sydney is fair enough (Brisbane has NRL magic round and Vic is AFL-mad). I am not against Sydney as the host city. The action on the field also was very entertaining at times with some great games.
But…the crowd. Of big concern was Sunday night’s crowd for the Newcastle-Brisbane game at Allianz. 4-5000 people at best! In a stadium that holds 40,000 that’s lots of empty seats. All in all the crowd seemed to be behaving well. The anti-Sydney FC chant is cheeky. Except when it’s metres away from your 10-year-old and swearing on rotation not ideal! (Might be turning some families away?) The entertainment cheap and cheerful also. How much to put on a band at halftime during the Sat night event? Just saying.
I want this sport to succeed. I really do. But organisers should listen to fans and a lot more promotion needs to go into the event for next year. Otherwise ignore what the fans want at your peril.

Is the A-Leagues' Unite Round worth persisting with next season?

I was at the two double headers at Allianz Stadium on Sat and Sun nights. The showpiece event was the Sat night contest and I will say confidently the place was a third full. Sun night attendance would have been 5K paying customers – at best! It’s a shame as I actually like the concept but can’t see them even breaking even on this. Sydney also is a very tough market. (PS I only went as I had free tickets).

OK…Well, that was very hard to watch!
Some observations:
– Fowler (first half quiet) and Foord (very quiet all game). Needed them to fire and they fell short at various times.
– Carpenter’s howler. Oh dear. She won’t sleep well tonight.
– Raso and Gorry tried their guts out with their energy and spark.
– We gave them way too much space a lot of the game. Fatigue?
– Amazing goal from Kerr…but she will be annoyed at herself for missing a few easier shots later.
– Tony – not his best night as coach in the dugout. But the man is a legend.
– The ref!!! Wtf? How much was England able to get away with? Awful…

But still so proud of our Matildas. Love them. Amazing achievement.

That was one of the more impressive sporting displays I have seen in many years from a green and gold side. Clinical. Hungry. Determined. Ruthless. Raso was amazing, but I think she has been our best since the start of the tournament. Really liked our goalkeeper also who was superb tonight. Credit to the coach as the team very much playing to the game plan tonight…The ref was a hoot also. Sounded like Mary Poppins out there!

Every team likes a player with a bit of ‘mongrel’ in the fold. But Radley’s careless tackling and defending mishaps are costing his side way too often. He either needs to go back to the drawing board on his defending style, or be cut loose. Either way, old mate is becoming a serious liability for the Chooks.

Some of the comments on social media calling for Robbo’s head are weird, to say the least. OK a great roster – granted; but this man has transformed the culture of that club into a very professional outfit over the years. And I am not a Roosters fan! Lots of fair weather fans coming out of the woodwork to put the boot in! This is the land of the tall poppy syndrome…

Folks – Can we please stop saying Ciraldo will be one of the NRL coaching greats!!! Needs to prove himself over consecutive seasons at the highest level in the NRL before we give these sorts of accolades. Calm your jets!
