Diggercane this is an excellent piece. I fully agree. To get people to watch the game either live or on TV you have to provide a good product. This is not happening with Australian rugby teams. I think there is a real issue with coaching depth in Australia. It is perplexing that for example a team like the Rebels can have over 100 points put on them in 2 games. If this was the English Premier League the coach and his staff would be gone by now. Unfortunately we have the ARU and not the discipline of private enterprise. In addition I can give you an even better example of the importance of good coaching than the ones you quoted. The English rugby team. Basically the same players with a different coach.

Don't cull an Aussie side, just make their coaches Super

Conor I enjoyed this article so much I went back and read your first article of Sept 6. It’s good to see some surgical analysis of the teams, the players and their strategies. I look forward to alot more of your articles. You highlight how lethal the ABs are in the final 20 mins but the other question I keep asking myself is what were the Pumas doing different to other teams that made them so effective in the first half of that game. They seemed to be able to create space and had the ABs rattled and making mistakes. We haven’t really seen other teams able to do that to this post RWC outfit.

Nick I enjoy your tecnical analysis alot. Apologise if this comment has been made by someone else but I didn’t take time to read the other 178 comments. I’d appreciate it if you could do the same analysis on some some of the other Rugby Championship games from time to time. For instance it would be interesting to hear your take on the first half of the Pumas-AB game. What were the Pumas doing such that they were able to rattle the ABs and is there any lesson in that for other teams as they look at facing these guys.
