That’s a bit of a shock. Not sure Des is the best appointment but I’ll be interested to see how it goes.

'Totally gutted' and 'pissed off' Holbrook axed for Hasler, Meninga also on way out of Titans - but no progress yet on Hunt

Luai cops plenty of unwarranted hate but he isn’t doing himself any favors here. After a terrible NSW performance his first thought is to put up a post on instagram insulting the fans? I’m sure there are plenty of idiots who have abused him on social media and they deserved to be called out but this isn’t the way to go about it.

'Chill, all you idiots have work tomorrow': Luai takes aim at critics as Fittler reveals Blues star copped death threats

Those who were into Freddy for not selecting Addo-Carr last year are very quiet. He’s barely been sighted in these two games and his carry on after being sent off was embarrassing.

Origin II: Axe set to fall on Fittler after Slater’s Maroons commit Blue murder to win series as three players get sent off

I don’t think 3.5 is too far off the mark for Boland. He had moments where he looked threatening with the ball but more often than not the English batsmen looked pretty comfortable against him. I do think Tim has underestimated how crucial those 20 runs were in the 2nd innings though so maybe 4.5 would of been a fairer rating?

Every player rated from the first Ashes Test: Awesome Uzzy, ridiculous Root as Aussie twin towers crumble

There seems to be a lot of support for Walker to be recalled but I’ve seen almost no talk about his previous performances for the Blues? He’s never been able to bring his NRL form into the Origin arena despite being in fantastic form for a number of years now. I’d imagine he would be a huge target for Queensland if he’s selected given that he’s lost his cool a number of times in games where the stakes were much lower.

SOS Reyno: How the Souths connection can fire the Blues to victory in Game 2

The Dally M certainly has it’s flaws but I don’t think there’s any arguing that Hynes has been one of the best players in the NRL over the last 18 months. Reynolds has been very good in that period as well but Hynes has been on another level IMO.

Bad news for Blues after Panthers announce Cleary hamstring scan results: 'Some serious issues there'

Would be pretty harsh on Luai if he were to be dropped. Thought he was one of our best in game 1. I’d assume Hynes will come in for Cleary and someone like Burton/Cook will come in at 14.

Hynes can’t run a side? Think he’s done a pretty good job running the team at Cronulla considering he won the Dally M in his first year as a halfback. Whether that translates to Origin is anyone’s guess but I think he deserves his shot based on his form in the past 18 months.

NSW could do a lot worse than Reynolds but I’m not convinced that Walker is the best option given his previous performances for the Blues.

Plenty of issues that need fixing but given how tight the ladder is and the talent in the squad it’s probably too early to say they’re done. Robbo usually gets the team firing around this time so it’ll be interesting to see how they go this weekend after the week off.

You’re right. Teddy being in the team has nothing to do with him being captain and NSW best player in the last 5 years.

We need to talk about Teddy: Why a Game 2 defeat might spell the end for the Blues captain in Origin

I wonder if Hynes would of come on if it weren’t for the Turbo HIA? Didn’t appear that Freddy had any plan on how to inject him into the game (which will surprise absolutely no one).

ANALYSIS: Queensland's outside backs won them the game - because Brad Fittler does not learn

Think you’ve got Teddy, Yeo and Cleary a bit too high but other than that it’s pretty spot on. Teddy tried hard as usual but it just wasn’t happening for him and had a few blunders in defence which is very unlike him. Yeo was completely ineffective all night with the ball. Would love to see Murray start at lock in game 2 but I doubt it will happen. Cleary just looked like he didn’t want to be involved at all. I think he’s copped some unwarranted criticism for his Origin performances in recent years but there’s no defending last nights showing.

Superstar poses no threat, enforcer gets only 30 minutes, playmakers struggle: Blues player ratings

Just like last week, the one positive to come from tonight was Billy Smith. Him and Manu need to be starting in the centres with Suaalii and Tupou (once fit) on the wings. These changes seem obvious to everyone but Robbo at the moment. Hopefully tonight was the wake up call he needed.

ANALYSIS: Luai picks perfect moment to make Origin case, but Robbo's Roosters are a rabble - and they've lost JWH and Manu

Away to Penrith in what will be our 4th game in 18 days and the only change to the squad after a terrible performance is one that was forced but injury. I think there’s a very good chance that we will be playing Penrith back into form.

Would love to see Walker come in for Allan with Manu shifting to centre and Suaalii to the wing but I think that’s wishful thinking.

Round 11 team lists Late Mail: Ruptured testicle ends Origin candidate's hopes, Foxx delay, Savage out, Schuster a chance

Agree that he has plenty of flaws in his game but I don’t think we’ve seen enough yet to say he’s not a 6. He’s only played 3 NRL games in that position and he’s been carrying some injuries in all of them. I’m interested to see how he goes once his quad issue is sorted and he gets an extended run in the side.

If you are a professional athlete who’s overweight, criticism over your fitness is not necessarily fat-shaming

Who would’ve thought that moving Lomax from his preferred side for no reason at all would have a negative impact on his game?

Magic Round team lists Late Mail: Dolphins' double blow, Turbo OK, Broncos change coach? Dragons duo axed

No surprise to see Ricky trying to divert the attention away from his teams own problems. He’s being doing it for years but now most people see right through it.

I actually think the Rabbits have done him and the Raiders a favour in signing Wighton. They’ve looked like a side that’s needed to rebuild for a few years now and this should accelerate that. Just not sure that Ricky is the guy to lead them through it.

Wighton’s Rabbitohs switch says more about Ricky’s Raiders than flaws in NRL’s chaotic contract system

How long before Brad Arthur gives up on Hodgson? He’s been awful so far this year and still gets named at 9 each week. I’m not sure Hands is anything special but he’s definitely an improvement on Hodgson.

Round 9 team lists Late Mail: Cleary doubt, Turbo out, Walker wins at judiciary, Dolphins switch

Panthers – I expect Penrith to cover the losses of JFH and Martin much better than Souths will cover Tatola and Koloamatangi. Milne is in for a long night.
Broncos – Could go either way but I think Brisbane’s pack can get the better of them in the heat.
Sharks – Dogs just missing too many.
Knights – Yet to see any signs that the Cowboys are improving. If anything they might be getting worse? $2.10 for Newcastle is a great price.
Titans – Another one that could go either way but the Titans attack might be too much for the Phins to handle.
Eagles – Think it will be closer than most think but Manly should win.
Roosters – Dragons always bring their A game in this fixture but the Roosters should be too strong.
Warriors – Going the upset here. Warriors record against Melbourne is poor but I think they’ll be fired up for this one.

Bit harsh to drop Walker but maybe it’s the wake up call he needs. I really hope Momirovski or Allan are named at centre but knowing Robbo it will be Hutchinson despite his awful performance there against Melbourne. Goalkicking now will be an issue as well.

Round 8 Late Mail, Round 9 teams: Turbo set to play, Nelson not cleared, Crichton to start, RCG hobbled

Surely Feldt’s time in the NRL is coming to an end? I thought he was a real weakness in this Cowboys side last year and so far this year it seems as though most teams have figured that out as well. He’s constantly getting caught out on his wing and lacks the pace to make up for it. The best bet in the NRL at the moment is to back the left winger playing the Cowboys for a try.

ANALYSIS: Foxx and Burton combine in spectacular style as Dogs sink Cowboys by copying 2015 Grand Final script

He’s been the Roosters best so far this season. He needed to step up with Taukeiaho leaving and so far he’s done a great job.

ANALYSIS: Suaalii shows why Rugby Australia paid the big bucks - but is Sam Walker the real star?

At the game I thought the sin bin was the right call but after watching it again I’m not sure how he wasn’t sent for the match. Hope Teddy pulls up alright as he’s had a few too many head knocks in recent times.

Happy to pick up the 2 points all things considered. Keary and Walker seem to be clicking and there’s been some nice glimpses from Cheese over the last 2 games.
