'Tis the season to be silly: Let's talk NRL expansion

The problem with the Northern Eagles merger was it was “ALL MANLY”, emblem, colours even players.
This merger was doomed from day one, as soon as it was signed off that the mergers NRL license would revert back to Manly if it failed no doubt set plans in motion behind the scenes for this to happen and still grab the merger $$$.
The license should have been taken over by the NRL when it showed signs of it failing and the colours should have been red and black from the start as the Eagle was the logo.
Same as if they were called the Northern Bears they play in maroon and white (similar to the Burleigh Bears), simple really.

The Roosters have stated thst they will never move from their Sydney base, my question why be the pathways provider for the Central Coast then.
All we get up here from the Roosters are trial games. The Roosters are just using Central Coast rugby league as a smoke screen.
Either utilise the area to its full potential and play atleast four matches locally or go away.

I from Tumbi Umbi, I was President of Ourimbah-Wyoming Magpies JRLFC for 6 years, a Central Coast Bears team would be very successful.
You only have to look at all the Central Coast players running around in the NRL now.

The Northern Eagles could have been a success but Manly had one agenda, to stand alone and use the money gained from the joint venture to make it happen.
The Northern Eagles was simply a take over, eagle as the logo, Manly colours (oh I forgot rhe one black and one red stripe) and a majority of Manly veterans kept when players like Billy Moore, Gary Larson and David Fairleigh were all released.
David Fairleigh signed with Necastle and was their player of the year in 2000.
When the joint venture wasn’t working the NRL should have stepped in.
I would have support the Northern Eagles if they had played in red and black, even a Manly designed red and black jersey.

Wyong Roos pffttt, they weren’t able to afford to stay in the NSW Cup, and who would support the most hated club on the Coast besides people affiliated to them.

Actually NBN is our local tv station, it is a sub-station of channel 9.

The Gold Coast is a graveyard for all sporting teams, it is an retirement area.
How many times have the Gold Coast failed with rugby league; Gold Coast Giants, Gold Coast Seagulls, Gold Coast Chargers and now the Titans are struggling (hello NRL, we all said this would be the case).
Their A-League soccer side also folded.

Yes but both Perth and Adelaide would only festure relocated NSW, Qld and islanders, is that really growing the game. No grass roots.
Melbourne still get a majority of their players from Qld as their junior base is virtually non existant.

Totally agree that the Central Coast deserve a team, every team in the NRL should have to meet a criteria to participate e.g. finances, juniors, memberships, location.
Between 2010-2011 the Central Coast Bears had a huge crack for entry into the NRL for 2014, membership drives were held every weekend at various locations between North Sydney and the Central Coast.
With over 8,000 members signed the NRL told Central Coast rugby league fans to vote with their feet if they wanted their own side in the NRL, they did, Manly v Westd Tigers (twice) and Manly v Souths drew over 20,000 fans.
Then 2014 came, the NRL said that expansion would not be considered until all of its current teams were financially secure (seriously ?, like that will ever happen).
Besides the afore mentioned James Maloney, Connor Watson and Nicho Hynes, other Central Coast players currently playing in the NRL; Daniel Saifiti (Newcastle), Jacob Saifiti (Newcastle), Jesse Ramien (Newcastle), Jacob Liddle (Wests Tigers), Scotty Drinkwater (Cowboys), Matt Ikuvalu (Roosters), Liam Knight (Rabbitohs), Jack Cogger (Bulldogs), Adam Keighran (Warriors), Tom Starling (Raiders) and Latrell Mitchell actually represented the Central Coast Centurians in Harold Matthews.
