Won’t get much better, but the decline will be slow bit like Judd at Carlton, lost his initial break away pace but offered other things like experience. leadership, marketing brand and was still a great footballer to boot.

To understand why and only why Nauru is a outpost of Australian football you must understand the link between Geelong and Nauru and the phosphate industry, that is the link of cultural export, the same link that Englisg games such as soccer, rugby union and rugby league have with the rest of the world and in particular the old British Empire.
Australian Football has not had the advantages other codes have had through mass emigration, Nauru is one such example, not through mass immigration but a cultural export, PNG is another smaller one, but due to stronger cultural influences from NSW & QLD RL plays a bigger part.

I will watch cricket but it is game played by 11 basically meant for 2, it can be mind numbingly boring, it is also a game that requires a fair amount of technical expertise and can be quite expensive to play at any decent level with bats pads helmuts etc etc not cheap.
Australian football also requires great skill to play at a decent level but compared to cricket has always been far cheaper, the AFL through Auskick recently has really spread the game far and wide but historically the game has always been inclusive of new waves of migrants to this country, something that possibly a conservative and staid Cricket admin has not had the luxury off or maybe untill recently needed.

I don’t agree, the biggest change to the game has been via the unlimited interchange rule which has enabled a big part of the team to become on onballers, reverse unlimited or put a smaller cap on it and we may see a change to positional play and a opening up earlier of the game.

Cootamundra could not even get a committee through lack of interest from the town, i think they had at least a couple of meetings with all no shows, the Riverina RL survives in many towns only through kiwi imports which does really represent the town, no disrespect of course to the kiwis who are just looking for some coin.

Its where people who previously have lived enmasse in a area or suburb or even school move, they move primarily because they don’t feel comfortable any more, as an example in 2011 At Auburn Girls High, only 15 of the 782 students enrolled were Anglo-Australian despite there being a larger Anglo-Australian population living in the suburb of Auburn.
Ask Poms why they move here, ask the people of Punchbowl, Bankstown, Cabramatta etc why they moved, ask the Italians etc why they push migrants through their country further north etc

Interesting though, Sydney is probably the most multicultural city in terms of % of people born O/S, Sydney more than any other city has experienced white flight in terms of schooling and people moving away from the Western Suburbs.

If as Conn says, that the cricket is smashing the soccer on crowds and ratings and that appears to be the case, perhaps the A league should seek a different time of the year to play.
