They can still make the 4 with a solid last 4 games.

Reds snap 25-year drought in Christchurch to beat Crusaders as Wilson, Ryan star

I enjoy the captain and coach interviews post games but think maybe this is only recorded on games in Oz. Rebels & Brumbies C & C interviews included in their match feeds.
Would have loved to hear Wright & Kiss

What I also loved about Tim Ryan was that he was a demon in defence and kept Sevu Reece honest.
He was also never out of position. I just don’t understand the persistence with Vunivalu who always comes in and gets outflanked. All good wingers know to stay with the outside runner and let the cover catch those on the inside.

A good result for this year is to move up from 10th to 6th by the end of the Spring tour.
That’s being realistic!

Go the Ekka!

Suncorp Stadium could be knocked down as Brisbane's Olympic fiasco takes another twist

Interestingly a number of years back the big discussion point was whether to re-develop the Ekka ground and turn it into the key Rugby stadium for Brisbane. As always politics played its hand and Lang Park was upgraded.
The Ekka has rail line going straight through it or at least it used to a few years back and hence would have been perfect for getting people in and out quickly rather than the nightmare around Lang Park. My father attended Rugby test matches there back in the 1960’s. Go the Ekka !

Totally agree Dionysus
Time for a line in the sand and move forward. Forget past coaches & past glories. Joe is a proven quality coach and let’s see what he can bring to the Australian Rugby landscape.
We are now ranked 9 or 10 so expectations should be set with this in mind. Use the Wales tour as building blocks towards the RC and then utilise the end of year European tour to further build partnerships & experience. The EOY tour has never been utilised properly. Coaches should have experimented with a ‘few’ combinations rather than sticking with the same team they used all year. Pressure to get wins meant younger players were taken on tour without game time. Alternatively, go back to a few mid week games with the provinces for players to build on experience.
I agree with some of the comments here that a ranking of 5th by the end of 2025 is a more realistic option to aim for.

COMMENT: In trading Greatest Showman for 'boring' and 'pragmatic' Sleepy Joe, RA gambling with game's future

I was brought up playing rugby from the age of 8 and have loved it ever since. Why?
– it was fun
– I got to play with my mates
– I learnt what it means to win and lose
– I learnt that it means I had to train more to improve.
I then got to watch club grand finals at Ballymore, then some provincial games then a Test match and I was hooked.
It is about exposure to the game and eventually the good players then the stars.
How do we regain the exposure?
I have watched the ABC news the whole WORLD CUP and the only mention during the sports round up has been around the Eddie Jones press conference. It has been pathetic.
This is not a game only played in private schools anymore so that excuse cannot be used. There are so many different cultures playing now throughout the country that we need to embrace these and market there accordingly.
This internal review needs to address all levels of the sport with a unified approach across the country and not a different one for each province. Hard questions need to be answered and tough decisions made. Only then can we move forward.

Passing on the rugby bug: A real fanbase grows through grassroots investment, not a TV screen

Very good article Spiro. Another thing that I think contributed to Irelands loss was that Farrell didn’t take off either Sexton or O’Mahoney in the last 10-15 minutes when they were clearly out on their feet.
Was there a realisation that it was both their last games and wanted them to stay on?
I have seen in previous games that Sexton didn’t take kindly to being subbed late and I hope this wasn’t the reason as Ireland could well have done with a fresh fly half for that last quarter attacking the AB’s line.

SPIRO ZAVOS: The moment I knew Irish curse would continue, and why Southern giants still rule the Cup

Some great ideas Tony!
Do you it’s realistic that $500k could be generated per game. The TVchannels would need to see a great return to pay that and would need to ensure they are on live and not replayed at 2am.

Shrinking Super Rugby isn't the solution to Australian rugby's problems, expanding the game below it is

Fantastic result for La Rochelle away from home in Dublin. With basically the entire Irish squad in their team, Leinster would have expected to win.
Is this a precursor for the World Cup and what effect will it have on the Irish team psyche?

'They said we couldn't do it': Skelton and La Rochelle defy odds in epic comeback to seal Champions Cup title

Great game Reds! Can I also commend the performance once again of Paul Williams who is right up there with the best referees in the game. He allowed the game to flow and talked/warned the players who were starting to infringe. It allowed for a free flowing game without the unnecessary whistling that some referees adore.
Would love to know the amount of time the ball was in play! A great spectacle!

REACTION: Thorn hailed for 'perfect storm' that blindsided everyone in one of the 'top two wins of his tenure'

Thanks for the article Matt. Watching the excitement and genuine camraderie at the selection meetings each week shows that pride in the WB Jersey is there.
I remember watching some of our great cricketers getting picked as youngsters , getting dropped and fighting back into the team & they were better for it. The Waugh brothers, Hayden & Slats all came back better the second time around. I’m hopeful that the same can happen to Noah & Harry W next season as we are going to need all of them come France ’23.
I think it will be a great Spring Tour and I’ll be staying up watching the tv to, ‘Dream that impossible dream!’

Walkin' on Sunshine: From fearless kids to resurgent veterans there's so much to love about these Wallabies

Q 1 Yes, I think that over the past couple of games the trust in each others ‘D’ has improved as well as a couple of positional improvements: QC , Rodda, Kerevi, Kellaway & a fit Samu
Q2 The French are a good team, great strength coming from their U20 team which filled the recent touring team but their whole squad makes them a Top 4 team come WC time.
Q3 I think B&I Lions tour lulled them into believing their game didn’t need to develop. It really shows what poor judgement the coaching staff of the Lions showed playing the Boks brand of rugby rather than running it. I think the AB’s will win by plenty.

'We want to get the country behind us': Everything Rennie said about beating Boks, JOC return

Agreed BB. Even though I’ve always been a huge QC fan, his tackling in the past has been poor and occasionally costing yellow cards! He covered the 10 channel well and reckon he did a career high tackle count last night! Really pleased for Rennie that he is now getting the results from the hard work he has put in.

Outplayed or outcoached?

Good read Josh,
One thing that cant be discounted was QC’s fitness. He’s been doing a heap of .work on his fitness over the last few years and its paid off and not carrying any big injuries has also played its part. 99% preparation 1% inspiration!!

'Resuscitated Australian rugby': Quade Cooper’s comeback for the ages

Great review Geoff,
The sun is shining, the Wallabies have won & Quade is back.
It’s great to be smiling again!

Thanks again GP for another good review. It’s great to see the passion in everyone’s emails as it shows we all care and we hate losing!
A couple of things worth considering:
Kellaway to fullback – I think he played their at u20’s. He’s got the pace, defence & a kick to be safe and could be a great injection into the line.
JOC or Hodge to 5/8- With his 1st run Hodge ran at the line got the advantage & the backline was then on the front foot. Not once in 3 tests has NL run at the line as he’s been crabbing & shifting pressure onto Paisami or Kerevi every time. Why not get the NSW 5/8 onto the bench?
Kerevi – has learnt to pass ! Time spent in Japan has served him well.
GP can you clarify the issues with the line-outs? Was it over-throwing by Faaingaa or a bad calls by Phillip?
DR states that the team is fitter than ever but we lack genuine speed to run down the AB’s save for Kellaway. We need genuine speed on the wings not utilities when we face the Boks & Argies

The Wrap: Rinse and repeat as sharply focused All Blacks sweep the Wallabies

I agree Ash. The experiment was necessary to give Loliseo a chance to develop but unfortunately he’s not cutting it. He refuses to run at the line and crabs across field shifting all the pressure to the centre’s. It’s a shame as We don’t seem to have the young 5/8 ‘s coming through! Likewise Banks has has enough chances and today was also keen to shuffle the ball wide to anyone else when it was kicked to him.
My suggestion is to put Kellaway at fullback as I thing he played there successfully in the u 20’s. He’s proved himself as a reliable performer and looks comfortable in the jersey. Maybe JOC back at 10 and give Lol a reserves spot to get some confidence back as it’s shot now!
